Bears by 10

Yes, the season started a few days ago, but it isn't really football season until the weekend.

The Bears have what looks like a decent receiving corps for the first time in recent memory along with a decent backfield. The problem might be an aging defense. Nevertheless, they are favored by at least 10, 11 in some lines. Hopefully a good start to a decent season, especially with NHL labor talks breaking down on a near daily basis, these isn't going to a full hockey schedule any time soon.

Anyone expecting Andrew Luck to have a good day is dreaming. It is going to be a long "Welcome to the NFL" day for him. A brand new rookie QB going against one of the more complex defenses in the league is not going to be a good day.

My betting over/under is 2.5 INT's.

Bears should win by 12 at least. If not they may be in trouble. Indy really has nothing.

Why is it that whenever I get the FOP newsletter I never see anything about contract negotiations? Also why can't our union win any ruling that goes before the arbitrator?

Bears opening day! Everyone is even at 0-0... well, except the Super Bowl champion Giants, who are 0-1 and in the league's dungeon all by themselves.

Andrew Luck will be an awesome QB some day, but its too early in his career and without much of a team surrounding him right now.

The Bears under Lovie Smith have always been hesitant to show off too much of their capabilities in the preseason, so I can't wait to see this offense start churning. With one of the league's best running back duo's and some very good new wide receivers, the Monsters of the Midway will probably set all sorts of team records on offense this season. It should be FUN!

1. Why is it that whenever I get the FOP newsletter I never see anything about contract negotiations?

2. Also why can't our union win any ruling that goes before the arbitrator?

9/09/2012 01:32:00 AM

Both are good questions with simple answers (I hope)

1a. If there are any negotiations going on, why would we want to broadcast this information to the public. The city could care less about us right now and they always compromise us by letting dribble about the negotiations leak out to the news media to put us down. I am not on the board or team but I have a pretty good deal of experience with our FOP contract over the past 20 years plus. When something of a deal is ready for the members, the team brings it to the board and the unit reps and they vote and decide if it is good enough to bring to the members. That is why you elect unit reps and watch reps. They speak for you as a group. You cannot discuss each and every item with the entire membership as they are settled on or the contract would never pass, bacause every copper has his/her own ideas of what is best for them and their situations and well being. The city loves to leak info because they know it causes lots of us to get angry and divides the membership.

2a. We do win some arbitration rulings, but not as many as we would like to. Arbitrators are now looking more closely at how their decisions decide what is best for the city/citizens and not necessarily us as police officers. From our first contracts, we won almost every one because the city had poor lawyers and were not prepared for these rulings. But that was many moons ago. We now face sharp minded attorneys that present hard evidence of what the final result will be to the taxpayers, plus the fact that the city does not care how many times they violate our contract because we cannot strike or take any job actions that would disrupt police service. Let's face it, even if we could strike, how many would do so? We don't stick together! Too many of us are just for ourselves (me first) and don't support the union or go to any meetings anyway. We break our own rules (working 1 man cars after dark, being afraid to stick up for ourselves when the watch commander orders us to do something or bully us when we know it's wrong, filing grievance after grievance when time due is denied, etc). How many of us have actually read the contract and studied it?

I could go on and on, but others will want to chime in right about now, so I'll sit down and listen.

Old Guy, who has been there.

OT

There is one industry where Mr. Obama can take credit for a robust and growing job market. Smith and Wesson reported a "stellar earnings report" and stated that its backlog of orders has more than doubled from the same quarter of last year. Strum, Ruger & Co. also reported that it produced a milestone one-millionth gun for the year by August 15th, a feat that it took almost all of 2011 to reach.

At the same time prices for ammunition have risen 20-30 percent from the first of the year and the major US ammunition manufacturers are struggling to keep up with demand even while the war in the Middle East is winding down.

Mr. Obama can claim robust job creation and business growth thanks to the the bitter clingers that are anticipating a win in November. The same thing happened right about this time in 2008. Its no wonder firearms stores across the country sport a photo of Mr. Obama with the caption "Gun salesman of the year."

Negotiations have not really begun in earnest. The FOP has presented it's contract demands to the City. The City has NOT tendered their demands/offers to the FOP. Until that happens nothing will be made public.

The FOP and City have both signed agreements not to negotiate in the media. The current FOP regime intend to keep that agreement.

This will likely be our toughest contract yet. Expect long periods of silence and little news out of FOP Hall. That is a good thing. If you anything at all it will simply be a timetable of negotiating sessions. Period. Nothing is supposed to come out on the negotiations themselves.

It is up to us to keep the faith and trust that our union is working on it and not expect continuous Twitters on the latest proposal by the City. No news is a sign that the process is going on.

Break that fucking Rahm's back!

Support the teachers, who are about to kill Rahm's political career.

They're worried about 500 murders this year? How about 800 murders if this strike goes on for a month!

Prediction. Two murders in Rahm's day care centers by Wednesday. The lead story on all three national networks on Thursday is how Rahm is destroying Chicago. Obama disavows Rahm in a speech on Friday.

Just remember, if this fucker Rahm survives this strike unscathed, he will destroy us in our negotiations.

City pays teachers 7% pension contributions , something CPD should demand next contract .
2007 - 2012 CPD 10% raise and we pay our own pension contribution of 9% , 2007-2012 teachers received 20% pay raise and city picked up their 7% pension contribution . We get shot at while they babysit .
What's wrong with this picture , time to report every crime and a ticket blitz.

That is so juvenile. If you've got a problem with a guy, have the balls to say it to his face, not give a fashion critique on a blog.

Are you so territorial that you peed all over Area One before the 'transplants' came? Those 'transplants' are your brothers in blue. You're the ASSHAT.

I heard the coppers in the old 023 are still treating the 'transplants' from 019 like shit.

A real old-timer would smack the shit out of you. I'd like to smack the shit out of you. Grow up and pull your head out of your ass.

Since you're so salty, retire already. Or at least get your panties out of a bunch Nancy.

I've seen plenty of Area One guys and girls come to work like they got dressed in a dark closet. That was before the merge.
