Here we are, under two months to Election Day, and has anyone heard anything about contingency plans for untoward occurrences?
For NATO, they closed off entire furlough segments, cancelled days off months in advance, told everyone not to make any plans. Now?

We've heard more about the plans for a Teachers Strike which seems to involve a lot of shift switching, mandatory overtime and premise checking. But nothing in case of more out-of-control "celebrations."

Been rdo the last couple of days. What'd they say about the strike plans?
I am betting on a teacher strike. I don't blame them and do support their cause, Rahm forced this to occur.
No editorial comments will change the majority of Chicagoans viewpoints on that. (Sun Times/Tribune)

The celebrations in 2008 after the Obama victory were mild. Some gunshots in the air and a teen bitch who slapped a cop near 55th and Western or nearby.
New Years Eve celebrations are typically worse. Much worse. I recall years taking cover under an overpass until the shooting died down. What goes up must come down, right?
Are we going to see commenters here suggesting cops temporarily move their families out of the city on election night like back in 2008? Are some of you still paying the hotel bills off your credit card statements?
If Obama wins I predict some relatively minor related stupidity on the south and particularly the west side.
If he loses I predict some equally minor stupidity.
In any case the normal toll of weekly mayhem on the south and west sides will almost certainly overwhelm the election related activity.
By the way "activity" is the new word for "crime". Crime is just a nasty word. For example, "Earlier today five people were hit by projectiles traveling at a high rate of speed which some young activity loving CPS students released into the atmosphere." See, isn't that nicer?

For years we used the same plan on election day. Worked every time, no problems at all. Then they threw out the plan and declared election day problems null and voice. Now every time it is "what are they going to do?" as if there were never an election day in this city before 2012. They used to have a plan for the lakefront and North Ave beach. And the Christmas Window Detail along Michigan Ave. They threw those plans out as well. Same with every other event etc. with potential for mayhem. It is all new again. I think that is so the new crop of bosses can "discover" what was learned and part of CPD DNA for years previously.
What's next, someone will discover there is a marathon run in October and exclaim, "Eureka, I have a solution to what previously was well documented."
The MFF was told they would be on stand by for this and all other events. Twelve hour shifts.

MFF already given word that they'll be on standby for the election as well as the Inauguration.
There's going to be new tryouts for the MFF, just like for SWAT. You have to be able to stand in one place at port arms with your baton for twelve hours while making time and a half.

That doesn't strike me as being out of the realm of reasonable possibility. However, a whole lot of bullshit gets posted in the comments on this site.
Did you experience the flying concrete or did you just hear about it? Again, it could have happened. I called BS on the Wrigleyville wannabee rappers story recently and I was wrong.
I was directly involved in one incident a few years back that was reported here and the comments from cops who claimed to have witnessed it were pure bullshit. Either they weren't there and pulled shit out of thin air or they repeated shit. None of you will be surprised that a relatively small, but dangerous incident was made out to be Custer's Last Stand.
There are guys who post here who would tell you they witnessed twelve New Black Panthers armed with howitzers steal the U-505 from the Museum of Science and Industry and sail it off into Lake Michigan in an effort to get to Detroit to start a civil war.
If you called Bullshit on the story they would claim to be offended and suggest that you don't know because you never worked a real district and the media and Rahm covered it up to protect the President.

That happened to me on the Ike, in my van with wife and child. Two M/1 teens chucked it off a bridge. Before there were high fences on all the overpasses. Smashed the windshield and bounced down to the ground. Around 60 mph, it sounded like a bomb going off in my face. My wife was in tears and trembling. I went back as soon as I could to see if I could return the favor with lead. No luck. Just another case report with nameless M/1's as offenders. Oh yeah, I love those people, diversity for sure. Now, many years later I measure my time left on the job in days and little has changed here except the savages are worse in many ways. Fuck this city. I won't miss it.
