Same thing happening in 009. If you don't come in with "enough" activity both you and your sgt have to drop to/froms as too why. "R/O was unaware of minimum required activity. R/O requests this minimum required activity guideline to be placed in writing to ensure this does not happen again."
My FTO taught me get three parkers a day, answer your calls, be the police ie take action as needed, and write movers as you see them. The job sucks but at least try to earn your check each day.

If I had a dollar for everytime I ducked into the desk while passing the station to send a car on a bogus "station assignment per the Watch Commander" from the desk's PDT, I'd be a very rich man.
You'd be surprised at how many a Hair Gel I've sent to see "Officer Klinger" at Equipment & Supply (a subliminal parallel, originally) to pick up the Section 8 forms of which we were fresh out. Only once do I recall someone mobile their sergeant to verify the assignment and question what the CPD had to do with subsidized housing paperwork. Sergeant's response: "Get down there before they leave for the day". Heh...M*A*S*H was already in syndication before most of these youngsters were hatched.
Stuff like this provides the necessary laughs we'd all go crazy without.

I worked at a place where they told me, "your job is to stand next to a conveyor belt where the apples come down the line from the trucks. Make sure there isn't a belt jam or the apples don't fall off the belt." It paid well and mostly we just made sure things went smoothly. Everyone was friendly and helped each other out. When the company began to struggle, the apples supplied were of lower quality and we had to pick the rotting apples off the line. The layoffs began and they would count how many rotten apples were in your basket, to see if you were a worker or a dog. The bosses began taking credit for who brought in the most rotten apples and pushed their units to get more, and it became cutthroat. Guys were bruising perfectly good apples to make them appear rotten on paper, so they could get more stats for their bosses meetings. The shifts with the lowest rotten apple totals were punished.

That message didn't come from any brass, it was just a heads up message about Patterson's message earlier in the day. I know things are bad, the top of this department is in shambles and that has a trickle down effect. Some commanders and a few just above them are in the position to hate the jags at city hall and a few in the offices at 35th street kissing the politicos asses. But, in reality no one should need a message like this sent. The concept of an apple a day goes a long way. Wooowww.. I heard people saying that 3rd watch in 004 sucks, but I didn't believe it.. Now I see why.. The word is that bosses want you to work your ass up, and right after roll call if you are in the station checking your courts in the computer bosses start yelling at people to get out on the streets.. they want you to work hard, but trying to leave early is a no no no, you get into something they don't back you up, they generate any cr against you for anything.. you work hard you don't go to any special teams, they take care of their own even if the officers there are dogs, but they're still in special teams... they have many officers from TRU and MSF but they dont let them work together...

I agree that quotas are bullshit, but since the talk is always "we are understaffed and need to hire" and the city is always crying broke, why wouldn't we want to write a few parkers to try and generate money for new hires? I dot see the huge problem with that. Of course there are days it isn't feasible due to manpower but there should at least be an attempt. Just my opinion.

I joined Oath keeper's great organization.
Only on the CPD can employees, with a totally straight face, demand a wage increase, no cuts in benefits or increases towards medical or pension and still vociferously assert their God given right to do absolutely nothing for an entire 8.5 hour shift and threaten a lawsuit if anyone interferes with that right to do nothing.
Imagine a worker at the Ford Plant out south speaking to his boss and telling him that not only did he not build a car that day, he has not built a car in 7 years. And he won't tomorrow either.
And that worker would be aghast if any discipline were taken against him.
Sounds nuts, doesn't it? That is about what happened, allegedly, with a copper in 020 concerning movers and not writing one for 7 years when it was his assignment to do such things.
Now that is a failure of leadership. Who the hell let an employee work patrol and not write a mover year after year? Assuming of course that he was assigned to a beat car and such work was an expected part of his duties.
How can anyone go to work and do nothing day after day? They do here.

Your right boss thats why I answer my calls. The only people doing nothing are those who sit in the W/C's office watching tv. Now if I didn't answer my jobs then you would have something to bitch about. Boss you have the same arrest powers as me and your out there. Idiot. I do SOMETHING every time I get in the car in uniform and answer the radio. I do SOMETHING every time I drive down the street looking in 12 different directions with only 2 eyeballs. I do SOMETHING every time I observe what is going on while I am driving around. I do SOMETHING every time I see something that deserves a second look and drive around the block again, or later, to check on what's going on.
I'm sure you'd think the coppers who come upon robberies in progress because they were paying attention were just filing their nails while driving around.

How about the $150K robbery 2 blocks from 011 a couple weeks ago? You might have gotten that guy pulling a gun on-view----but instead, you think we should be out there doing SOMETHING--like getting a bus check. maybe I am missing something. it is not as if there is some kind of punishment involved for not having activity. just the need to write a memo explaining why there was none. you get paid the same amount to write memos as for any other work you are doing. write the memo, turn in your time sheet (including the time spent writing the memo that you have been ordered in writing to create) and be done with it.

It's no better at the ISP, they want an average of 8 contacts a shift. The incentive they give for major "writers" is an unmarked car or specialty vehicle like a Charger or SUV. It's so bad you have troops battling for activity and many have blinders on. We had a troop arrest an armed security guard for UUW while he was on his way home from work just to get a "gun" arrest. It's pitiful. You also have troops writing other coppers and being proud of it. One such guy was rewarded with an IA spot because of his bone headed work. He once forced a police family member to pry a plastic FOP medallion of the trunk of his car with a crowbar, causing damage ti the vehicle. This is the shit that happens all because of bullshit quotas, it's like a pool of piranhas. If the public only knew of the true incentive to pull them over. It's almost like a game with the public paying the price. Some deserve what they get but pressure from command also puts inadvertent traffic violators in a tough spot.

The Feds launched a Grand Jury investigation into the pension fund. They are investigating P.O.s on disability and the operation of the fund. BAD NEWS for Shields et al....the Feds know about the football. The house of cards is falling.
It shouldn't be that difficult for anyone who's out on the streets to find something to do between calls for service. If you're out there for 8.5 hours and can't stumble across a mover, a parker or a bus check, you have no business being a police officer at all.

My FTO taught me get three parkers a day, answer your calls, be the police ie take action as needed, and write movers as you see them. The job sucks but at least try to earn your check each day.

The way I see it super cop, I will just answer my calls for service and back up other cops. The city now has an army of revenue people to write parkers and camera's to write movers. So I guess you and your FTO are no longer needed. Dork.

You need to rethink your statement. You can not compare law enforcement to an auto worker. Unions dragging down the country? Are you kidding? Whatever unions are left have nowhere near the power they had say 40, 50 years ago. Google "right to work state" you will be surprised.

Actually they do owe us shit. They owe us our "TIME DUE" because it's time we worked and didn't get paid for. So when we want to use it we're supposed to get it unless it's absolutely impossible due to manpower, which we all know is never the case. The bosses should do the job they're paid to do instead of spending all of their time being assholes to their troops. I'm sure the taxpayers would love to watch the W/C or station supervisor (whatever the fuck we're calling it now) watch T.V and play solitaire on his computer all night. Nothing worse than a do nothing merit hack denying the working P.O time off that's owed to him. Morale is in the toilet and you think the officers should still go out and generate numbers for these assholes. Doing their job means answering calls, patrolling their beats, and writing the required paperwork. If you want "numbers" on top of that then you better start treating the troops a little better and let them use their compensatory time when they request it.

Just like the goofs in 018 and 014 who sued because they thought they were singled out and given crap assignments. The trial judge tossed that at the first motion and called it laughable saying that as a police officer you have a variety of jobs in your job description. They also went on to say that almost ANY assignment that is given to an officer is in the best interest to the safety to the public which in turn is ok to assign any officer to at any time. Unfortunatly, our safety is not an issue because the courts say that we are officers and we know what we signed up for. So if your talking about bringing beefs, lawsuits etc go ahead... I look forward to marking the money box and making 2 or 3 thousand before your pointless suit gets tossed at motion...like all have before. And if your not taking about legal action and want to make it physical go ahead.. I dont hide behind a white shirt.. I dont hide behind a star. BELIEVE me, in 26 years ive dealt with bigger, badder and meaner motherfuckers on this job than you.. that im sure of... You worked, but you chose to take time instead of money. Where the fuck did you get the idea that you are "supposed" to get it? I agree that it would be nice to be able to take off on demand, but that's not how it works, and it never did.
I don't know how much time you have on, but you sound like a member of the generation which permeates this country with the idea that you get everything that you want when you want it because that's how you were raised. This never came up as an issue of such debate because we LIKED our Sgts and Lts. We wanted them to have a little pile of paper at the end of check-off. Even if we disliked a Sgt we had to consider the Lt and WC.
