Hire 500?

  • The Chicago Police Department will hire 500 police officers in 2013 and hold two police exams — one for new officers, the other for sergeants, aldermen were told Tuesday.

Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s plan to hire 125 officers-per-quarter was not enough to satisfy aldermen convinced Chicago needs at least 1,000 new officers to ease a manpower shortage they contend has hamstrung the city’s ability to stop a 25 percent surge in homicides and a nine percent increase in shootings.

They were not appeased by the argument made by the mayor’s budget team that Chicago already has more police officers-per-capita than any other major city and that it’s the first time since 2006 that the city has hired enough officers to keep pace with retirements for two straight years.
Kept pace with hiring? What a bunch of crap.  Do we have to go over the FOP Newswletters again counting retirees?  Then pull up the personnel rosters and count hires by year?  And point out (as an aldercreature did) that 1,400 vacancies were eliminated on paper with the stroke of a pen?

hahahah...

We have more police per capita. What about the rest of the stats. Homicides per capita. illegal immigrants per capits, etc, etc. We are the only place without conceal carry so let's not cherry pick the numbers.

Don't play with us Rahm.

We wonder what the numbers of troops per capita for Afghanistan and Iraq looked like and if we fought a war based upon that number what the results would be.

OT: They're calling this a "violence tax," and it's probably "for the children," so it's GOT to be good right?

They're comparing this to a cigarette tax, but the obvious flaw in that logic is that while cigarette smokers damage themselves, an overwhelming majority of ammunition that's purchased legally in SH1TCAGO, CROOK COUNTY, ILL-ANNOY, is used legally and not violently.

I believe that the upcoming Sgts. exam should be open to ALL patrolmen & detectives, regardless of years of service. They should keep the minimum years of service required to actually be promoted, however. Since these lists are likely to be up for many years, every officer should be allowed to take it. Just because you don't have 5 or 6 years in grade as a patrolman now doesn't mean you won't have it before the list is taken down and a new promotional exam is offered.
I think it's fair. If you don't have the time in grade, you're passed over and the next number is called. Hopefully, even if you tested well but fail to have the time in grade, they will get to you before the list is taken down. If not, the youngbloods will just have to roll the dice again on the next exam.

When will we face up to the fact that the number of police is not the issue.

We simply have a bad police department, rotten from the head to the desk person tail.

85% have never testified in a felony trial
75% make no more than 3 arrests per year
60% have never made a meaningful arrest
45% have never made a UUW arrest
30% have never made an arrest
10% are functionally illiterate

These are real numbers (except the 10%, that's an observation). The funny thing is that statistics for those with less than 7 years on are actually worse. So, the more police we hire from the current generation, the worse off the department will be.

Gee... with the idea of outsourcing the ET and Crime Lab jobs, if the city thinks it will save money... check again. They outsourced the body removal. HOw much money is spent on that? It probably would have been cheaper to buy the proper equipment and keep the police doing that job - not that it was pleasant, but it was quicker and probably less problems for all concerned. All you had to do was to pay the wagon guys a little more money and provide the proper equipment. Now you want to get full time civilians to process crime scenes? What can of worms does that open up? Will those hired have the capability of keeping CPD stuff separate from the rest of their stuff? How many photos will be taken? How long of a wait for response? Or, will they only respond to shootings, homicides, and police shootings? And let's not forget testifying in court? How much money will be spent there? I hope to stay around long enough to see that fiasco.... Waiting on a crime scene for a civilian et to show up... what will happen when one of them is hurt or killed?

1). Write letter of appeal to Human Resources -
1 copy to Ladner's office
1 copy to HR at City Hall

2). Write letter of appeal to the Chicago Police Board.

3). Hire an Attorney from the Law Firm of Edward Burke.

Walter’s Perspective: Mayor Needs To Find The Cash For More Cops

The talk in Chicago is we need more cops. The murder rate is up, the number of cops is down to about 13,000, trying to protect three million people.

But to hire 1,000 more cops, the mayor will need about $50 million, and he says he doesn’t have it, that he cannot find $50 million in his new city budget of $8 billion,

*** Bias Hiring from the Department of Human resources ***

Good Afternoon,

I wanted to take a minute to reach out to all of the men and women on this site who are currently Chicago Police and have childeren and/or friends who have been disqualified from the 2010 CPD list due to a "failed" psyc exam or other bias reasoning.

My father is a decorated CPD Sgt who has been on the job for 30+ years. I passed all testing, including my 2nd power test and was then told that I had "undesirable" psyc results and was given no explination of what "undesirable" is defined as.

It has been brought to our attention that HR along with the company performing the psyc exam has been dumping friends and family of the CPD as well as messing with military and different races in order to keep quotas.

If this applies to you or your children/friends please email me at CPDappeal@gmail.com. I am working on the beginings of a class action law suit against the City of Chicago. It is time to even out this playing field.
