Marine Unit Again (UPDATE)
- The Chicago Police Marine Unit rescued a 36-year-old city water department worker who may have suffered a heart attack this morning while four miles out on Lake Michigan.
The marine unit received a distress call shortly after 11 a.m. that a worker on the Versluis, a tugboat, was having trouble breathing and chest pains, according to a spokesman for the marine unit.
The rescue unit sped to the boat's location, which was about 3 to 4 miles out in Lake Michigan. It took the rescue responders about five minutes to get to the vessel, he said.
How come there isn't a TV series about these officers? "Chicago Water" or something.

The Fire Department boat. This is the level of fact checking that everyone who watches and reads the main-stream media has come to expect. If they can't be bothered to even make sure a picture matches a story, how can anyone trust the words written?
You can't.

As a citizen, I have dealt with the police marine unit on several occasions and all I can say is they always do a great job and make me proud to see them on patrol.
Maybe the TV Show Chicago Fire can play them.
"Chicago Water". This is hilarious. Thank you to whoever writes this blog. I will laugh about this for days.
There's no way to shoehorn a love story into a show like that. God forbid somebody makes a show that depicts exciting stuff and leaves it at that. Anyone remember Emergency!? Johnny was always trying to get some ass but the show always focused on the real work.
The Tribune used a file photo of the Chicago Fire Department dive boat to go along with the article on the CPD Marine Unit. And the Tribune is set to begin charging $14.95 a month for online access. I am about to bid the online Tribune farewell. For free I check the site, for pay, not a chance.
"How come there isn't a TV series about these officers? "Chicago Water" or something."
The media wouldn't have it. It portrays the CPD in a positive light.
They considered it a few years ago when Harry Hohm was running the helicopter unit...it was called "Chicago Asshole".....for some reason it didn't take off....yeah that was an intentional pun!
its funny how there stuff always hits the new!
How come there isn't a TV series about these officers? "Chicago Water" or something.
It'd have to be titled "Chicago Water Clout" to be an accurate description.
Between them and the chopper unit they are pulling in 3/4 of the departments good press
Yeah: "Chicago Water", a drama about how corrupt politicians pissed away the city's resources. Danny Davito can play aging Don Ricardo Daley. Rahm his consigliere is the heir apparent. McCarthy the drunken ass kisser is the Luca Brazzi. Maybe they could bring in real "outfit" guys working Streets and Sanitation. Yeah, Chicago Water, I'll watch it.
And to think when the city moved the CFD marine unit to the CPD's location the CFD went in and told the powers that be that they no longer needed the CPD marine unit, that they can now disband the CPD marine unit because CFD can do everything that CPD can do. CFD was quickly set straight and the reverse was actually true. CPD can do everything CFD can do, but CFD cannot do everything that CPD can do. Rahm wants to save some money, maybe he should get rid of the wasteful and second tier CFD marine unit.
Oh, congratulations CPD marine........again!
Speaking of Chicago fire. God forbid the producers of the show cast a firefighter that looks like a real Chicago firefighter...or forbid sakes has a Chicago accent. Laaaaaame
well hey, at least they put up a picture of a boat........
that's why i always say that if anyone ever wants to "hear it anywhere first and factual" go to SCC. that should be your slogan or something of that nature. you guys have earned it and i wish you continued success.
why do both the CFD and the CPD have boats? would it not make economic sense to consolidate this into a single unit? especially given how little they are used?
Gotta love the dishonest media! Although a small distortion of the facts they do stuff like that all the time, but on a much more serious scale. God forbid they just put up no picture if they don't have it, but instead they take the wrong picture and put it up just to make the story. The media knows most of the public is dumb and this is what keeps them in business.
"If they can't be bothered to even make sure a picture matches a story, how can anyone trust the words written?"
Oh, the pictures match.
Every time there's a crime, the Tribune heads the story with a blurry, Photoshopped, stylized image of a police car.
An accident or fire, an image of a fire truck or ambulance.
Anything to do with a railroad, the same of a METRA locomotive. All file images, used over and over.
Remember "photojournalism?"
Hell, remember "journalism?"
The more bandwidth there is, the more they use, and the less they present. Digital bloat -- all wind and water.
Used to do more with a typewriter and an old Speed Graphic, and sell the result for a nickel -- and make a profit.
Oh. Comments? Farmed out to F__ebook. We don't want to hear from non-F__ebook users.
Paywall coming soon. They call it an "enhanced experience" - and actually get paid for talking like that.
"Chicago Water."
A whole hour of a guy shutting off a buffalo box, walking around and around and around with the T-wrench.
It might actually take three hours, but we have to cut it down for TV, and just concentrate on the sex and violence and, paradoxically, "social engineering" themes.

God bless those who still work with their hands, keeping the whole thing standing.
Great unit ,people who take their job seriously. Just couldn't see them going at it on board with those big air tanks on their backs.
fireman i know hate chicago fire, just saying.
"Check out the photo the Tribune uses in their story about the Police Marine Unit..."
At first glance I thought it was a party boat trolling for marlin off the Keys!
Funny.
Beware the (former) Unit sucker-puncher...avast there matie...tie that scurvy dog to the yard arm. And if I get a few (free) beers in me, I have a killer right cross when are you aren't looking. And please don't hit me when I'm sober. I'm both gamey and lamey.
Well, at least it is a boat from Chicago. They could have used a NYPD Marine Unit Boat. Thank God for small favors.
#1, it's a Fire boat.
#2, is that a picture from the 50's?
Lazy reporting in action.

All you need to do is check "Chicago Breaking News" or watch the first 5 min. of any newscast.
I stopped watching tv and reading newpapers for 6 months once--it was the most peaceful 6 months I'd ever had. Think it's time to do it again. There's a lot to be said for books and interesting magazines--I just started subscribing to 'Mental Floss' and it's funny as hell....there's a whole word out there besides what's going on on the south and west sides.
Going to retire soon and can't decide between Montanta, Idaho and Utah. Get the f*ck as far away from Chicago as possible. Maybe even Alaska!

On that note please remember to vote AGAINST Patrick Thompson for a seat on the Water Reclamation District.
Patrick Thompson is grandson of the old man, Richard J. Daley. God forbid we start another 'fookin Daley kin on the road to a public pension and a lifetime slopping at the trough of our tax money.
PATRICK THOMPSON - NOT JUST "NO" BUT "HELL NO!"

SCC don't need no stinkin' slogan!
One more political update, as if we don't already have enough resons not to read the Chicago Tribune, here is another one:
The editorial board of the Chicago Tribune has endorsed both Kari Steele and Patrick Thompson for positions on the Water Reclamation District.
Kari Steele is related closely to both Justice John O. Steele - Appellate Court Judge and former Cook County Board President and Cook County Commissioner Bobbie L Steele. More pigs slopping at the public trough.
And of course, Patrick Thompson is grandson of Richard J Daley.
And these two clout heavy political slugs are the best that the Tribune Editorial Board can find to endorse?
Sickening.
Is that a bayonet sticking out of the front?
Well, at least they didn't use pictures of SOVIET ships, like the Dems did at the DNC.
Then again, using Communist ships is suitable for promoting Dems
Let's give Rhambo some credit. Within the first year of his term the CFD did upgrade with a new fireboat costing several million dollars. The extra bonus is that the boat was built in Canada. How democratic of him.
I'm guessing as news divisions are cut to the bone, editors are relying increasingly on file photos. I've noticed online stories often use stock footage. It's the circling the drain effect. There was a recent story of a man infected with a rare, non-contagious bacterium, with a random haz-mat team stock photo at the top.

You must be a flatlander. The police use their boats (note, plural) every day. In the winter they have a dive truck to do rescues, and several days a week they train, at a pool, dive and laps. Those that aren't detailed to a district like 7 or 11.
It's just like the backdrop of Naval ships used on the DNC convention stage that turned out to be Russian.
Maybe that's what Obummer meant by " more flexibility " after the election in a message to Putin.
Whatever happened to the street deputy Sandra day? Where is she working? Was she a lt or capt?just asking.

Within a couple of days of taking delivery of the new CFD boat the transmission of that multi million dollar boat went out. It is still out, hasn't been repaired. Typical City of Chicago. Has anyone seen it on the water or heard of it being used, since launch? Didn't think so.

The CPD Marine Unit often dives on evidence, recovers said evidence and inventories that same evidence. Chain of custody. Then they have to testify, in court, about the recovery of that evidence.
What training in court and evidence does Chicago Fire department personnel get?
CFD recovers bodies, gather possessions and toss it in a bag. That stuff is evidence. When Fire found that Scott guy shot in the head in the river they grab the gun, show it around and look at it, hold it, then the police show up, announce a crime scene and Fire drops everything and walks away. Great protection of the Crime scene.
No, the Fire Department cannot do everything that the police do. They think they can but are badly mistaken. Ask a fireman to do an inventory and go to court to testify in a murder trial about a gun they recovered at the bottom of the river. Uh huh, pretty soon no more murder case.
The 2 Chicago Rags, aka: the Runts Press Corps is lucky to know the difference between it's eatin' hole & poopin hole , but just barely !!!!
Like I've said countless of times before...
If I want the facts on an incident, I check right here...(are you listening up media).
If I want to house break a dog, then I'll break down and get a newspaper... it’s also good for birdcages too I've been told. And that’s a fact!

Yeah it was out yesterday for a guy that CFDs fast boat fished out of the water. How do I know this? Because I was one of the paramedics on the scene. People sound so stupid when they have no idea what they are talking about!

You think the city paid for this new fireboat??? This was courtesy of federal grant money.

Yeah and when the CPD marine unit has a so called "rescue" who do they call to finish the job??? They call Chicago's best! The CFD paramedics!
I love the toy handcuffs the trib uses o crime story photos
That's only because we can't drive the boat to the fucking hospital you glory seeking moron!!!
Glory seeking? It's called real work! Come ride on the ambulance if you want to see what that is. If not then close your suck and keep hiding out on some boat!
