Marine Unit Again

  • The decomposed body of a female was found by a utility worker this morning behind a building in the Calumet Heights neighborhood, police said.

Later in the day, people fishing in the Cal Sag Channel found what may be a human skull, officials said.

The body was found by a utility worker about 10:05 a.m. in the 9100 block of South Harper Avenue, according to Chicago Police News Affairs [...]

[...] At about 1 p.m., a crew on the Cal Sag Channel fishing for Asian carp discovered a skull on the southwest bank near the 13200 block of South Indiana Avenue, police said. Chicago Police Marine Unit officers responded.
On the bright side, the Tribune got to use a new photo and actually got it correct this time:

That shot is going on our Christmas cards this year.

Wasn't the plan to disband the Marine unit and redeploy them in the hot zones?

"...a crew on the Cal Sag Channel fishing for Asian carp discovered a skull..."

Can't go wrong, can you?

...and here comes a pack of our charming feral "rib dogs."

A sportsman's paradise!

If there were as much sky between the top of the smokestack and the top of the frame as there is water between the waterline of the boat and the bottom of the frame, this would be a perfectly balanced shot.

Maybe the image area is bigger and it was just cropped like this in quick editing...when shooting, I will rack the zoom back a few mm to include everything if I can.

Just a fine point.

It is a good, gritty urban shot. More of the city looks like this than doesn't look like this...

If you enlarge that picture you can see that the beer koozies, grass skirts and coconut bras are all tucked neatly away in the cabin for the winter months.

The only thing not visible, with or without optics, is the amount of clout in that unit. I'm surprised those fucking boats don't capsize under the weight of all the phone calls aboard.

Let CFD handle the water rescues. Does the police marine unit write ANOV's for fishing without a license or boats for speeding? Rescue work is the CFD's primary job, not the cops.

91st and Harper is landlocked and the skull was on shore. The majority of calls for distress are suburbanites who run out of gas and have "chest pains" if no response.
Lock up any pirates, bucaneers, or skalywags lately?
They have kept us safe from invasion by the blood-thirsty Canucks though.

The only thing you left out was after you read this article you turned to your wife and said, "but we're supposed to be the hero's!"

Now go put another CFD sticker on your car and do every outdoor chore in your CFD shirt, stroke.

Is it true that the Mayor Rahm bought a 3 Million dollar fireboat made in Canada that's up on blocks in the boatyard not being used? Is that like considered dry dock or mothballs? Hello BGA-where are you on this one?

What about the boating DUI's and crimes that occur in/near the harbors?

Don't say "Coast Guard". Too few of them.

Besides, rescues are one of the few things that get CPD positive press. We can use all of that we can get (Abbate, etc.)!

As long as we have a lakefront, we'll have cops on boats.

Deal with it, landlubbers!

It is like broken. Transmission broke first time out with real firemen. No money to fix it. That money is going to Maggie Daley Park to commemorate her being dead.

Cfd is the biggest waste of money on the Great Lakes and Illinois waterways. These guys are led by a former lifeguard who has the biggest ego and he really thinks he is the real David Hasslehoff except he is about a foot and a half shorter. The straw that broke the camels back was the battery to one of our own by a CFD Captain which has been swept under the rug. This occurred on the river about a year ago and this poor PO is still off of work ! CPD Marine Unit will put these clowns to shame almost 99% of the time and never embellish the truth like the CFD Heroes love to do!
