To all those who lament that this is not "your father's police dept" anymore, please give it a rest. You (or most of you) never worked on "your father's police dept", and if you did you would hear stories that would curl your hair, if your father was open and honest enough to share them. You think you invented some of the problems that are bitched about on this blog? Not likely. As in most memories in life, the good ones get better, the bad ones fade into oblivion, and the tales generally get taller with age. There were plenty of skeletons in this dept.'s closet, and not everyone was welcomed into that big, happy, family. For better or worse, its a totally different time and world we live in. Maintain your sanity and deal with it. Yes, this isn't your father's police dept. anymore. I know some fathers that are glad of that.

CA49

Where are our unions, FOP & PBPA, on this issue?

Where are the teacher's unions on this issue?

Where are our PAID (by us) leaders?

Why am I only hearing about this on SCC?

Why are we not marching in the streets like Spain & Greece?

Today's Tribune headline is city's redlight camera vendor involved in improprieties and an ethics conflict with the city.
Really??? Not under Rahm's transparent administration!
Say it ain't so.
Of course Rahm won't say anything. If questioned about it he'll ignore the question and either change the subject or turn his heels and walk away.
To ressurect a quote of Harold Washington Rahm is "arrogance gone wild"

Many people are not aware of this CA 49 that is on the upcomIng ballot. Tell everyone what this is and to vote NO. If you take a careless attitude towards this monumental issue, you will regret it later. The pension system will be destroyed and all power will be in the hands of the politicians who put us in this financial mess. Be afraid, be very afraid and act!

They're in the academy now. There will be no more. Ever.

Chicago will be contracting out police services from Indiana.

IPRA. They can ruin your career in a matter of minutes but take their time restoring your good name after they realize they made a mistake.

It's a violation that seems to defy reason but not FOP, our bosses or the law. Their attitude is, "You're still getting paid right?" It's amazing how ridiculous this system is. No recourse for the investigators but extreme prejudice against police officers. Guilty until proven MORE guilty.

Officers, who have been cleared of all wrong doings, sit and rot at call back, HQ or some other corner they've been banished to. No one fights for their return to active duty. Not a single concern for the damage it has caused these officers. No worries whatsoever and why? Because they are getting paid. It's a fucking crime and nothing is being done about it...NOTHING!

I hope none of you ever have to endure the wrath of IPRA and their incompetent investigators. It's an uphill battle that will drain even the most steadfast soul.

Be safe

POLITICIANS MONETIZING THE CHICAGO HOMICIDES AND VIOLENCE PROBLEM?

Teacher says: "Every time CPD rides on a homicide call a roof-top reverend and the Mayor hears the cash register ring"

Why not!?

I've been thinking.

Maybe, just maybe Rahm's reason to refuse to do anything meaningful about the homicides and violence in Chicago is because the roof top reverend is monetizing the violence for him and the city.

Follow the money trail.

Chicago violence is a tool and what better tool than helping the children and stopping the violence as a reason to raise money!

It does play well on peoples emotions. Another "it's for the children" campaign

You stop the Chicago violence now and Rev Cory is left out on a limb short of his goals. While he's no-where close to his $11 million dollar goal to build a rec center he does have $500K for clouted jobs, no-bid contracts and related tax revenues.

So why would you f--k that up by doing anything about the violence if you're the mayor? Stopping the violence now would be taking away the reverends money raising tools.

The mayor and/or alderman will be getting their cuts via tax revenues and other means soon of that money.

Anyways...So I've been thinking about starting a money drive for myself like that roof-top reverend guy since it seems to work so well,

Imma call it "Operation Hood-Winked)"

It will be non for profit too.

All proceeds (that are left over after taking out for my personal expenses traveling all across the states and maybe the world) will be used to open up a pool hall for the children.

Hey, I'm ready to do some travelin', see the world at everyone else's expense.

Also

Is it no wonder the man was allowed to break city ordinances without being busted when he camped out on the roof of that building for who knows how many months?

They certainly didn't stand for that with that Occupy group that's all.

Monetizing the homicides -- using the crisis and not letting it go to waste Eff the children there's money to be made by playing on peoples emotions and winning their hearts, their minds and their checkbooks.

Just put your hands in your pockets and do-nothing until the $11 million dollar goal is met and the city can get their cut of it. That's what it looks like to me. All speculation of course but that's what it feels like to me.

Oh please help!!

There goes another 30 people shot in Chicago some of them dead just this very weekend. The children, the children...

These children need to get off these streets. They need a pool hall..so how much can I put you down for. I take visa, mastercard, amex and cash....lol

Wake the hell up people. Our health care and pensions just took another huge hit this weekend and they'll take the money from us, from our pensions by skipping payments and our health care by cutting benefits in order to pay for the ER's and the hospitals and the doctors that the 30+ GSW victims required over the last three days.

Follow the money.

If Emanuel gets his hands on the police pension , he will freeze the COLA for 10 years. He had already said that he wants to do this. How then will retirees afford to pay higher property taxes and doubled water bills along with everything else ? Retirees will lose thousands of dollars in cost of living increases that they are entitled to. Many retirees will sink into poverty. We can not sit by and let this happen!

It is in the latest FOP Newsletter. I don't know if anyone is aware of this but public sector employees and their (our) pensions are not at the top of everyone's Christmas list. The vast majority of people have become convinced that we do not deserve the pensions we earned so any legislation that says, essentially, screw the greedy pension grabbers of the public employee unions has an excellent chance of passage. Sad but true.

We can beat the drum but I doubt it will help. Voters will be bombarded with ads advocating passage of ca 49 right before election time. Then it will be up to the courts. And remember, the judges have immunity from the effect of that bill on their pensions. Madigan engineered that one.

Freezing the COLA for 10 tears will cost a recent retiree making a retirement benefit of $65,000 now, over $100,000 during that 10 year period. It is a huge hit
