Only 25 Years

  • A teenager pleaded guilty today and was sentenced to 25 years in prison for killing a Chicago police dispatcher last year in a crash as he was being chased by officers after stealing a vehicle while intoxicated.

In a deal with Cook County prosecutors, Marquis Harrison, 18, pleaded guilty to one count of first-degree murder in the death of Marciea Adkins, 42.

Authorities said Harrison had just left a party at about 6 a.m. on July 10, 2011, and was high on Ecstasy, marijuana and vodka when he saw a motorist leave his idling Range Rover in the 100 block of West North Avenue to pay a parking meter.

Harrison jumped into the vehicle and sped off, prosecutors said. A police officer pulled the SUV over after seeing its driver run a red light at Blackhawk Street and Elston Avenue, but during the traffic stop, Harrison allegedly backed into the officer's squad car and almost struck two other officers.
Supposedly, he faced 40 years.

I heard marciea was an excellent dispatcher and was well liked by the officers who worked on the zone--- although we can do nothing to bring her back at least she can rest in peace and her surviving family gets some justice--- 25 years is a long time....

1st degree murder means he does 100 percent of his time.

Moreover, NOBODY does 80%, it's 85% for class x felonies.

Don't let the facts get in the way of your opinion.

Then they wonder why crime is out of control. When it's proven that you killed another person, you should pay with your life. Either behind bars for what remains or in the electric chair holding a hotdog when the switch is thrown!

In Illinois after 1995, an inmate must serve 100% of a First Degree Murder sentence.

Why do so many on this job pretend they know what the fuck they're talking about?

Good point. Anyone know when her trial is. Would love to be there. Or is she going to plea to probation.

It's all low-hanging fruit. Everything. Just grab it.

The new 24-hour crime cycle. "Never a dull moment."

This one should get death.

The victim did.

Mistakes are just that mistake. He was a child who made a very stupid choice. He was a very good student with a very bright outlook. 25 years is no walk in the park. He will be 43 when he gets out. All because of a stupid mistake that a KID who has not had it easy made. Yes he took someones life with the stupid mistake and yes he deserves prison time but lets not act like we have not made mistakes. NONE OF US have walked in his shoes or been 14 years old and have the only parent we know be dead in the next room. None of us have lost everything we knew in a matter of minutes and be thrown to the west side of Chicago.

When was the last time you actually witnessed a A.S.A. go for Class X Felony charges, when it was an option? I even questioned them on one case and they said it was unofficial policy not to. Jails too crowded. But Anita could find room for some Police there!

Seriously? I knew the woman who's life was ended by this little FUCKING ANIMAL who was well on his way to making a lifetime of "mistakes" as you put it.

Marciea was a friend of myself and my family since she was a child growing up on the Southeast side of Chicago.

She grew up in a large family, in public housing with one strong parent. She attended public schools, grew up in a challenging environment but she overcame that and bettered herself. She didn't make excuses, she made something of herself.

Marciea was a mother, a wife, a good friend to many people. She brightened many a day for me way back when she worked at Service Merchandise on the East Side. The twinkle in her eye and her quick wit combined with her beautiful smile would put a smile on anyone's face.

I wish the child you feel sympathy for had touched someone in your family or a close friend of yours. Then it becomes a rage against the innocent being wronged, immediately followed by a loud, vocal demand for justice.

Poor baby it wasn't his fault he was out that late ingesting all those illegal substances, that he displayed a lack of impulse control and stole what did not belong to him, that he showed no respect for authority by refusing to stop for police and that he showed no concern for the safety or lives of others by his reckless actions which resulted in the death of an innocent victim. This couldn't possibly be his fault.

Yeah, he was a kid who made mistakes but never suffered any of the CONSEQUENCES of making mistakes because of equally ignorant people like yourself making excuses for him.

When he gets out he will become an adult who keeps making mistakes. Don't feel too bad for him though, at least he's still alive; my friend is gone forever. Maybe he can move in with you once he makes parole?

So in closing, hugs and kisses and fuck him and you too..I wish they could keep him locked up until he dies.
