012 / 013 Merger

A whole bunch of history is set to be closed with the closing of the Monroe and Wood stations.  The new station near 14th and Racine is set to open 09 December.  We're assuming the Department will rename the new 012th District if they haven't already.

So when does the other renumbering take place then?  025 is due to become 013.  024 would have to step down a digit or two.  Who gets the 021 designation?

Who gets the 021 designation?

Rogers Park - The new 021

What will happen with the radio zones?

Will 014 be on a zone by itself?

If they were smart, 025 would become 021 and 024 would become 013. The reason being would be less confusion on the radio zone. If our spectacular equipment isn't working right or our dispatchers who are working 16hrs a day are a little tired and mumbly, its better not to have two districts that end with teen or two districts that start with twenty on the same zone.

My bet is that 025 will be 013 for two reasons, the city isn't smart and 024 might close and merge with 020.

That is because civilians in city government, like Bonnie Amato, hold our culture, our established directives and us, in contempt. It would be beneath them to seek advice on things they view as unimportant and trivial.

Any sworn member on our job and many CPD civilians know the district station designators should read 001st District, 002nd District, 003rd District, 004th District and so on down the line. The civilians in city government think it is insignificant and do not care that it is significant to us.

The old 19 at Halsted and Addison was to be closed years ago. Belmont and Western was the new 19. Due to the neighborhood in an uproar they kept old 19 open and renamed it 23. Belmont and Western also became Area 6. The old area 6 was at Grace and Damen where there now is a firehouse.

Later Area 3 on the southside was closed and Area 6 became Area 3 and later Area North.

The first DC of the new 19 was Terrible Tom Kernan. There is a pix somewhere of the Old Man (R J Daley) handing Kernan the keys to the new place in about 1976.

Now the old 19 which became 23 is 19 once again.

Actually, you are wrong. You are confusing "Unit Designations for Payroll Purposes" for District numbers. It is the 1st District and Unit 001. The former was established for computer use and mail delivery while the latter is the actual name.

all this talk about renumbering districts.....is the number important?
how about some hypotheticals?
1) every year in November, the city opens up each District, allows officers to bid for a district; city retains a 50/50 distribution (50 bid/50 management; hey, hey, to those who like to travel);
2) watch bids go from 80/20 to 50/50 (a little spunk for the old farts on days)...
3) new limits on the medical roll....only one year total, maybe? (or 1 year every ten years?)
4) limited duty restrictions, then off onto disability (with new restrictions as to outside income limits, fraud prosecutions as warranted)
5) pensions?....hah! work longer for a minimum pension, contribute more of a %....
6) hell, if Obama wins, some cities may go bankrupt anyway (along with the feds).....making all of the above somewhat irrelevant

Plans are changing, even medicare because they are:
1. Getting people used to more cost if test or procedure is just for wellness
2. Getting people used to less care
3. Getting people used to testing to prolong life a BAD and useless thing.

I spoke to an old timer friend of mine and he said that there were less districts when he got hired in like 1964. The population has declined a bit and back to 22 or 23 districts might not be too ba d EXCEPT these geniuses we work for will decide that these new big districts don't need 350 or 400 po's. So, they'll let attrition thin the herd some more, all the new recruits will go to areas where there are no people living but tons of crime. no one lives in Englewood but they have more cops than 2 north side districts. These areas require tons of tax money to survive because no one works and pay taxes there.

I used to work for BCBS. Even though its routine, if you tell the dr you have been having stomach issues or something along that line, the diagnosis code will reflect that and the claim will be paid. Also, to the poster who had trouble reaching someone on the phone, people would sometimes show up at the building, 300 E Randolph and someone would have to come down and address their concerns.

NOTHING is FREE! Why is this so hard for liberals to understand, why in fact so hard for otherwise intelligent people locked into the Chicago machine way to understand? Someone is paying for the colonoscopy...either through higher taxes, shifted benefits, cuts in other services, etc. It's fine to negotiate for the BENEFIT and expect it to be part of your plan with the understanding SOMEONE IS PAYING FOR IT, but it is not and never will be free. This is what the dem's use to make you believe their bullshit. Obamacare is a big steaming pile of shit designed to bankrupt insurance and move the nation to single payer socialized medicine, I can't believe anyone defends this fucking montstrosity of statist garbage.

Hope you are still smiling when Chicago decides its much cheaper to just pay the penalties and drop your dumb ass into the gub'mints exchanges. On the bright side you can schedule your doc appointments a year ahead then like furloughs, since it will take that long to get seen.

Smile nicely and bow when your gracious Dear Leader hands you scraps.

019- its a cluster fuck from day one, time due is being denied more now than before the two districts combined even though theres 390 officers. Officers being split up to work different cars to fill vacant spots due to many mission/specialty cars created to justify the amount of assigned POs. Welcome to the circus.

The new 12/13 will have how many beats? It will not be 18 that is for sure. I guess 12 beats so they will be over staffed and will have to send low seniority officers to 7, 3,4, or 5 wonderful Area South.it could be ugly amounts of travel time for North Siders with low seniority

Can someone tell me why the city puts the district designator under the main entrance to police station as "District 12?" I notice that they did this at all new station. Why not "12th Distric?" That is how we refer to them

I have wondered the same thing.

Are they still talking about 014 giving up it's southern border?
Meaning the new 012 could go as far north as North Ave?

13 used to go up to north ave back in the day and south to 290... back then they were on 2 radio zones. dont be surprised if this happens again seeing how they can't seem to get the geocode right for the new "zone" they ar trying to get up and running for the december 5th move....... good luck to all the yup's

I've never worked in 12 and never had any clout.

YOU are a tiny, tiny, jealous little man.

"Now the old 19 which became 23 is 19 once again."

We just continue to recycle the same, old, bad ideas.

Take CAPS, for example.

Old-style policing with a new name & a few bad concepts added.

"Why drive when you can call and DEMAND the police respond to your location."

That 2 hour wait will cut down on reported crime!

"NOTHING is FREE! Why is this so hard for liberals to understand, why in fact so hard for otherwise intelligent people locked into the Chicago machine way to understand?"

Because in so many cases, those Chicago machine beneficiaries AREN'T the ones paying for it, directly or indirectly.

To the person suggesting Mary Sarlito becoming C/O of anything, please watch what U write. Stephen King couldn't place a more horrifying image in my head. She ruined the 018th District. There's a Prada in Near North to which one can only assume Sarlito wears it.

So, many here don't like ObamaCare, but it requires this test to be free, unless, one's (like CPD's) health plan is grandfathered.

BUT, if there are some changes to CPD's plan in the future, it may be required to be free. See:
http://www.healthcare.gov/news/factsheets/2010/06/keeping-the-health-plan-you-have-grandfathered.html .

The straight party-line Democratic voters will NEVER get it. Never.

Well-said.

Because they can.

"...it could be a lot of travel time for North side officers..."

But it would be a world of good police experience which a lot of officers are lacking in.
