Firefighter Death
- A Chicago firefighter has died after becoming short of breath when he
returned to his firehouse from a call, authorities said early Monday.
The firefighter, whose name and firehouse location have not been released, experienced shortness of breath Sunday night and was transported to Little Company of Mary Hospital in Evergreen Park, where he was pronounced dead, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
It was not immediately known whether the firefighter had been on a call that involved a fire.

Oh no!
Returning back to the firehouse after a small kitchen fire in a house. Once they got back in the firehouse he collapsed and died enroute to LCM. 61 years old with 18 years on, and almost made it to retirement. CPD and CFD did a great job with the cortage to the M.E.'s office. Somber and respectful as appropriate. May he rest in peace and prayers for his family.
So sad. May he rest in peace.

Dear God, NOT AGAIN. Why SO SOON? This must be a very difficult time for our fire fighter brothers and sisters.
May the Good Lord watch over this fire fighter's family during this very difficult time.
The men (and women) who voluntarily run into burning buildings for a living have my utmost respect, and I offer my condolences to the family, friends, coworkers, and the Chicago Fire Department for their loss.
On two occasions, I was present at military aircraft accidents and found myself leading people into the crash sites. To this day, when I smell jet fuel, I smell burning flesh. The first crash, we were able to rescue some victims. The second crash, we were lucky that the F-14's ejection seats didn't go off.

It is irrelevant if he was returning from a call. Why would the Tribune even post an asinine statement like that? Don't tell me breathing in carcinogens for how many years or just the stress of the job didn't have something to do with his death. R.I.P.
where was the fire ? Nothing on the news , shame not equal coverage by major news media.
It is truly sad to hear of this so soon. My prayers are with him and his family. I'll reserve comment on the mayors complicity in these and other tragedies past, present and future until are more appropriate time.

I had the same thought...a fireman is fallen. His death is no more or less legitimate depending on the call he came from. Journalists and their lack of consideration..sheesh..

Does it matter, he put his life on the line every day like we all do, would any of these writers or liberals do the same, hell no. All you media assholes that readily pass judgement, have the balls to look at city hall,springfield AMD Washington d.c. and ask them what they did today aside from Fucking us over and over again.

Walter Patmon was driver on Eng. 40, and he was a roof man. I don't know how many times I've seen those guys up there ventilating a roof, how dangerous that is -- got nothing to prove to anyone. He came on job later, too, at about 42.
Like so many others the job was where he wanted to be - and everyone will miss his BBQ too, I hear it was the best.
