Pension Amendment Defeated

  • Illinois voters rejected a proposed amendment to the state constitution that would have required a three-fifths vote, instead of a simple majority, for any public body to increase public pension benefits.

Some voters found the proposed change confusing and rejected the amendment 56 percent to 44 percent.

“It seemed like double-talk to me,” said Jim Chmura, 67, of Oak Park, who voted against it.
This will save us tens of millions in lawyer fights over the next few years.

67 years old and still thrown a curveball by what he perceives as 'double-talk'.

No doubt Jim Chmura of Oak Park has both spawned ignorant offspring and voted for Obama. Twice.

You know this country is sunk when a grown-assed man can't decipher basic English. At least his 50/50, take-a-wild-guess-and-pick-one-already chance was ultimately correct.

Fucking Sheeple never cease to amaze me.

Keep your eyes open, folks. Madigan & Company will soon be making another run at us.

A few months ago I seem to remember reading something where Madigan offered veiled threats, that there was other legislation that only required a simple majority. I can't find the article right now.

We've won this battle, but the war rages on!

Funny thing is these politicians vote themselves big raises, benifits that big CEO's enjoy and even when asked if their own pension would be changed under this plan, they refused to touch it. So I'm glad, even though they tried to make it confusing as hell, it failed.....

But keep an eye open for them to keep trying... it's in their blood.

This was a major blow to madigan. WHY you ask? He is looking to dump the pension liability on the local governing bodies that have employees in the state fund.

    1. If the local bodies cannot reduce the benefits, the transfer of the pension liabilites to the local governments will bankrupt school districts, cities and towns all across the state.

    2. If the amendment passed, then the state would dump the pension liabilities and wipe off a lot of state debt *walla!* resulting in a better credit picture. The local school boards facing large tax increases or bankruptcy could vote with a 60 percent majority vote and REDUCE all pensions. Madigan could then say he was not responsible for the teachers etc. getting the fiscal ax! Madigan then gets credit for improving the state finance picture.

    3. Now that the amendment didnt pass, the democrats can only blame themselves for the fiscal crisis since they control the state government and historically spent the state into crisis.

Are they (Madigan & Co) doing ANYTHING about the number of lobbyists who (not state or municipal employees) got to work for 1/2 day and "teach" only to grab into a pension fund and now are recipients of tax-funded pension retirements? ... six figures no less?? NO, they are going after the 1st responders,,,,shame on them. Thank God this was voted down.
Illinois politicians are money-grabbing fraud criminals who should all be prosecuted by the feds.

Rahm wants to not only get from behind the mandated by law funding mechanism taking effect in 2015.

(Gov. Chickenshit left a 3 year window open for the criminal-political class of Chicago & Illinois to enact counter-legislation)

There are A LOT of big Obama contributors and members of Daley Inc. and Rahm & Co. associates licking their chops at the possibility of a wholesale divesture and disposession of Chicago Policemen of their pension money.

Muni employees who are members of collective bargaining units?

Their pensions are the LAST of relatively unmolested pots of "free money" left in this country...

We can't wrap our heads around these fools wanting to take money from people with guns...

    Hmmm...

They want to make sure that Coppers are loaded up on the boxcars headed to the soon coming American "work camps."

Can't have pissed off and disposessed Coppers well versed in Chicago style fuckery running around in the underbrush unchecked...

"Whither the Police and what are they doing? We must know..."

What the hell good does it do you to "earn" a pension when there will be NO money left to pay it in just a few years. What will happen, a federal bailout of bankrupt states? Republicans still hold enough power to keep that from ever getting through congress.

SCC "Some voters found the proposed change confusing and rejected the amendment 56 percent to 44 percent."

Wrong, it wasn't rejected, it didn't pass because it needed 60% to pass (3/5 Yes votes).....therefore not rejected......

Either way though. happy day for something...

I voted no to all judges, I voted against Anita, I voted for any Republican listed in the ballot, I did not cast a vote to unchallenged candidates. Voted against the constitutional amendment. The only vote to bear fruit was the one against constitutional amendment only to discover Madigan has a veto prove majority. So now Madigan and Cullerton and Emmanuel can dance rings around Potato head's veto. There's no winning in this corrupt State.

10:04 You are 100% right. Better that it didnt pass and for the reason you said, but in reality 56% of the voters wanted it to pass. Politicians will be taking notice of that and continue to try and mess with the pension, especially in the lame duck session where those voted out will trade their vote for a job or appointment

Obama dont care. Did he ever play little league or sandlot baseball? Did he grow up in the US? Even if he grew up poor in the US, we could relate to him and he could relate to us, but the fact is he didnt.

Like someone with no attachments, he bought his love and approval.

He has no connection to growing up in Illinois, so dont expect a handout.

Probably true, but he owes a little something to the democratic machine for giving him Illinois.

He took only 23 of Illinois' 102 counties.
