One-Third of Sentences?

Someone got shot near California and Madison the other night.  That someone had an interesting rap sheet as discovered by some friends of ours and brought to our attention.

It seems this individual took a couple shots at the police back in 2002.  He missed and was charged with four counts of Attempted Murder of a Peace Officer.  From what we can gather, and in the finest traditions of Cook County "justice," he pled guilty to 4 counts of Aggravated Discharge of a Weapon and was sentenced to 25 years.

We aren't the smartest folks out there by any stretch of the imagination, but 2002 plus 25 equals 2027 as far as we can figure. 2002 plus 13 years (day-for-day credit if eligible) is still 2015.

This asshole was out in 2010.  Eight years.  For trying to kill police officers.  That's like 33% of the given sentence.  Anyone care to explain?  Anyone in a political position who can tell us why this jagoff was anywhere near California and Madison breathing fresh air?

And the band played on.

Anita will blame the prison system and/or parole board, the prison system will blame Quinn, Quinn will blame the poor economy and George Bush, and no one will give an answer as to why a guy served 8 yrs of a 25 yr sentence for trying to kill four police officers. And no one, besides police officers, will know, or even care to question why this even happened.

That conviction is a day for day, or was back then. So the 25 is really 12.5 years. If he took substance abuse(drug or alcohol) counseling that would knock off 6 months, and could knock off up to 18 months of his sentence. The 12.5 years now becomes 12 at most and probably became 11-11.5 years. Can't remember exactly, but there also used to be credit of a couple months for ever year of good behavior or something like that. He could easily knock off another 10-14 months that way, and be down to 9.8 - 10. 5 years or so.

Uh-Oh...there gonna be some twouble in Cleveland if they don't find that gun...Cha--Ching Cha-Ching.

Cleveland, East Cleveland officials seek answers after police chase ends with 13 officers firing 137 shots, 2 people dead

EAST CLEVELAND, Ohio — With 13 Cleveland police officers firing 137 rounds and killing two people following a chase Thursday night, city leaders are seeking answers and could ask for a civil rights investigation.

Investigators did not find a gun inside the bullet-riddled blue Chevrolet Malibu SS when staff from the Cuyahoga County medical examiner's office removed the bodies from the car Friday evening.

*****

"I heard a car smack and knew it hit something," he said. "The next thing I heard was gunfire. Pop, pop, pop. Bang, bang, bang. I couldn't believe how much -- it must have been more than 50 shots."

He threw himself to the floor.

"I dove down on the ground when I heard the gunfire because bullets got no names," he said.

From a troll: No, no one can explain, things just magically "happen" in this liberal mecca known as IL. You see, justice in Cook County in and of itself is an absurdity. It is about wonder, amusement and frustration. I have learned that from reading what you all write. But you have to follow the chain. The missing links are County and State. In this case, you have the PRB who has the political appointees from the City and State, often incompetent merit appointees of the party who make release and parole decisions. They were bequeathed these positions as favor from the Governor who has already announced and in other cases secretly, catch and release of criminals from penal institutions. Maybe this turd was on a list (politically created or not) where 25 which means 10 and he was released? This state has decided it simply does not want to spend the money to keep criminals locked up full term. This of course makes your jobs more dangerous and life for me and mine more risky. Remember-shoot to kill. It is the only justice any of you will ever receive when someone tries to kill you. Stay safe, protect each other (and me and mine) and have a Merry Christmas.

The answer is simple, Nobody and that means you and I, hold the courts accountable. In the last election once again ALL judges were retained including one who has been declared mentally ill, and has herself physically atacked a deputy! FOP has not led an effective effort to stop a judge from being retained since Officer Cathy Touhy was beaten and disfigured by an offender, who was later given probation, and that was in the 1980's! Following that incident the FOP led a drive to have the judge responsible kept from re-election and we succeeded. But that was then and this is now, and today when Burke slates a judge, that judge is given a judgeship FOR LIFE! Burke has the power otherwise restricted to the President when he gives a Federal Judgeship for life. And the public and cops who have to live with these animals are expendible. Nobody cares about the citizen victims who because of poverty or race have to live with the pieces of shit that these noble jurists decide to release on the public.

This is a major reason why violent crime is on the rise. This has been a common occurrence over the years with people who commit violent crimes. Most are either on parole with little or no supervision provided by the state other than a weekly phone call to a Department of Corrections switch board in Springfield or on probation ,again ,with little or no supervision. It may take 3 or 4 violations of probation and or parole to finally get a warrant issued for these predators. Meanwhile , if you give career criminals an inch of courtesy they take a mile and the end result is dead and injured citizens. Pat Quinn , are you listening?

Two gift ideas for your cop spouse, brother, sister, aunt, uncle, nephew who know the job or that citizen friend who doesn't "get it" and never will but might get a clue as to what your life is all about.

I recently read two books by Edward Conlon. Red on Red and Blue Blood.

He is a Harvard grad and NYPD detective. Red on Red is fiction and Blue Blood is "his" story of being on the job. Both are good reads.

If you've spent time in NY, all the better for your enjoyment. More similarities in his Dept. than differences from ours.

No I'm not getting anything out of this endorsement. Just a retired guy who recently read two good books and am keenly aware of the age old problems of Christmas shopping.

The prison system is concerned with one thing and one thing only : peace within the walls. They used a convoluted system of time served for good behavior and time taken off for other programs that you engage in during your forced stay. That, in their minds, helps to keep things calm in the prison. What happens once the convicted felon hits the streets it not their problem.

Can someone please explain to me why at 1110am there was a girl driving down the 3800 w. 1110th place in her PERSONAL vehicle (black Jeep) writing parking tickets??? No joke. A neighbor down the street got one for no plate. She had a black coat with no patched so do not even know if she was wearing a uniform.

Is she doing this off duty???
Is this her activity while driving to work???
Is she doing this in her "own" covert car cause she knows the Blue & White is too obvious???
Does the commander/Lt/ Sgt know about this???

Well I got her plates and will give it to a few non-police to make a formal beef. Hopefully she steps on her tit and commits a Rule 14 violation.

What's the point of catching these people when they can kills us in the process, sue and still walk out with no real punishment???? Seriously, it's a bad system that it is catching up. You want to blame commanders across the city for the rise in homicides or the police itself. But, the root of the problem is the poor judicidal system that allows these long rap and dangerous criminals to have no real punishment and back into a society that they hate. As a proof, they get out and commit more murders, robberies and so forth, etc. When is the pressure is going to be applied for these bad to the bone criminals to never be let out. To really be denied how they denied the life that they took or the money they robbed by force, when? Let them rot in jail and stay there for a very very long time. Maybe then you will see that our homicides and other crimes will go down.

This is the most intelligent comment I've seen on this blog in a while.

The Parents are 90% responsible for the way their kids turn out. Nature is only about 10% of it unless the child has a ingrained psychological disorder (like McVeigh or Daley or Burge)

NONE of the "good time" shit should apply when a low life tries to kill a cop. Period.

Not only did they do away with the death penalty, the inept and corrupt judges continue to hand out lenient sentences to violent criminals. Of course these mutts only end up serving half of their sentences, unless of course our illustrious liberal governor turns them loose with his early release program, only to offend again and again. To add insult to injury Illinois is the only state that continues to fight conceal to carry thereby leaving the law abiding citizens basically defenseless. How the hell do these idiots live with themselves. I honestly cannot stand living in this hell hole anymore, can't wait to move far far away.

To 11:35 am the only beef you got is she's driving the wrong way. You are the police stop her and issue a mover you can do that off duty or you make the complaint yourself. Instead of bitchin on this blog do something about it. Why do you need a citizen to file the beef.

No one cares anymore. Everything we say falls on deaf ears. It's no wonder people have just given up. Only option is to exit this city as quick as you can and not look back.

These politicians better start to wake up. Vote them all out!
How do these judges keep getting elected when many vote no for them, hmmmm?
Maybe time to look into our voting system or update the outdated system

"I saw in today's paper that Rahm is going to use leftover NATO money for youth anti violence initiatives.
WTF? How about paying some of the $$$ you've owed our pension funds? This fucker has no intention of ever fulfilling the city's obligation to our pension funds."

No he doesn't plan on fulfilling the city's OBLIGATION. When he was elected, Emanuel said something to the effect of he's not going to worry about old bills, he's going to concentrate on new projects.

He knows he can't undo all of Daley's fiscal malfeasance, so he'll just work on pretty, new, shiny things for the idiot media and voter to "ooh" and "ahh" over.

The pension situation will take care of itself; by collapsing. If he's still around by that time (doubtful), he or his successor will be "forced" to do "something" about it. There have been plenty of postings regarding what that something might be, but you can damn sure bet it won't come anywhere close to resembling the current pension.

You're right. When you retire rollover your deferred comp into a retirement fund, moreover you can withdraw your contributions to the pension and receive 1.5% simple interest and roll that over too. That way your connection to city and state governments are completely severed.
