Lightning Strikes Again
- Devin Common told his mother he was going to a nearby South Side store around noon Tuesday.
Minutes later, his mother Kimberly Common saw him laying dead in the 7400 block of South Champlain.
He was her second son fatally gunned down since last summer in the Greater Grand Crossing neighborhood.
“I couldn’t believe it was happening all over again,” said Kimberly Common, who lost her son Antonio Common, 23, to gun violence in an alley near the corner store at 75th and Langley.
This must be the new media trend - find out how many relatives of the dead have also been killed by gunfire. Don't mention the thirty and forty arrests in 10 years since the age of 17. Don't mention the wheeling and dealing lifestyle that brings the "victims" into close contact with gun play.
No, this is a family tragedy. And we're sure someone from Rahm's office will be delivering a script to momma's house shortly about how we need more gun laws to protect these poor altar boys and honor students from the dangers of the street - you know, like just a few days ago where momma lost her four chillens to guns wielded by law abiding citizenry.

I had to re-read this story to be sure I wasn't hallucinating. Momma and both her spawn all had the same last name. That's just about unheard of when reading any of these ghetto tales.
Devin Common, Antonio Common, and Kimberly Common. This is no big deal...it's just a Common occurrence.
Thank you, thank you... I'll be here all week. Tip your waitresses, try the veal.
SCC, you know these blogs about the ghetto rats being killed , maimed etc. is starting to sound like "Ground hog day". It's when these mutts start shooting other people rather than gangbanging a-hole's there will be war.Not only in the land of barry but nation wide. We are forced to live here by greedy politicians, we have no where to go. We will fight,we have to too protect our family's and homes.Does any of these politicians really beleive we won't? The "great leader" in all his majestic thoughts and way's won't make any difference. He can smile for the soccer moms ass kiss the liberals walk on water. It won't make a difference, we will fight!
The phrase "all too common" comes to mind....
Don't hate the playa ,hate the game.
Chalkie.
Violence is "Common" in some families...get it...Common.
CPD ammo fax. Do to no $, no ammo at the lead cloud CPD ranges. Please bring your own. The annual course needs only six rounds total. 30 minutes are allowed to hit the target at three feet.
If you fail, you cannot carry until 2014.
Us 70 copper's at the range are over worked so be kind to us.
"I'll be back. I'm going to the store."
Sounds like a dangerous thing to do on south side. It gets more dangerous when you are the bad element and you have enemies.
Oh dems guns. They be the Devil they be. My poor chilluns werent perfect but theys were turning their Lives around.
Now I lost 4 chilluns to dem Devil guns. Ban em I say, ban em.
Oh...de already banned? Well ban em some moe.
You play those games, you win those prized.
Most of these poor children get gunned down going to the store for momma. It is time to outlaw stores.
Rahm
Not one gang-banger has been killed by the street violence, according to victims families.Yet, every shoorter is a gang-banger.
Somebody should give the shooters a roster of all bangers so the good peoples aren't victims.
No one buys the family tragedy crap. Just read the comments to those stories in the Trib and Sun-Times and find out where people stand. Only the libtard gun banning trolls believe that sh*t.
Giving details of the extensive criminal careers of the "victims" doesnt fit into the agenda. WE should be used to it by now...Yawn...
“I couldn’t believe it was happening all over again,” said Kimberly Common, who lost her son Antonio Common, 23, to gun violence in an alley near the corner store at 75th and Langley."
This is Rahms fault, remember his "take it to the alley" speech?
Hey how about we call out the Media in Shitcago...... STOP CALLING IT GUN VIOLENCE...... IT'S G A N G VIOLENCE and until it gets the proper name NOTHING will happen to solve it. It's not the guns it's the thuggery behind them. I assume (dangerous term) that by blaming the "thing" instead of the culture & race everbody feels better and it doesn't affect Shitcago and asa long as we don't have to admit it we don't have the problem .....Right ?
Sounds like the corner store is at fault. They should protest it.
right ....
dear media,
If you are going to indvestigate how many siblings have been the victims of gun violence that's fine.
But please then, find out how many siblings are the perpetrators of gun violence.
Signed,
An offended public
The culture of violence and lack of family values in the black community is finally biting them in the ass. they live the gangsta/thug life, and so they die !!
But it's not their fault, blame someone, something else. Untill they start taking responsibility for their offspring nothing will change.
"Chicago’s top cop said the week still saw fewer shootings than the previous year."
"So there - you malcontent cry babies."
Super McNut
If there is anymore siblings, CPD should sit on the home and watch over him. Poor family, the government should assist this family financially and give them a place to stay.....oh wait
Why are these motherfuckers always going to the store when they get gunned down? Maybe the socialists should ban stores.....
That plan is probably in the works seeing how the are screwing with our economic system already.

Will it pass?
Dear Mike Shields, please send the city the letter. I really could use the partial back pay I could get if you send the letter. A raise would also be nice.
Thanks,
Finkl
more dispersals and a few contact cards would have prevented this shooting....yep lol A BIG FUCK YOU to compastat and you booses for not standing up to that asshole supt. you all are are just as bad, stupid fucking idiots to think cards, missions and dispersals as a remedy!
Why isn't CPD's press office pointing out the evidence of exemplary citizenship of these people?
Seriously: a press release saying "it's no surprise this guy got shot, given the company he kept." And then go on and list all the death and violence related activities the deceased had been caught up in.
Why doesn't this happen? Would the aldercreatures blow up if the CPD dissed their late constituents? Is that the problem? Or are we just totally paralyzed by politically correct notions about victimhood?
" I'm going to the store " and the store turns out to be the cold storage at the Cook County Morgue.
Mama is cryin cause dats two ghetto lotto tickets dat came up wif losing numbers (no police involvement, hence no payouts).
At least these are not Police involved shootings so the survivors cannot collect a payday from the City lottery.
Devin Common told his mother he was going to a nearby South Side store around noon Tuesday.
Sounds to me like we should ban corner stores, that's the problem.

A 15-year-old majorette who performed at some of President Barack Obama's recent inauguration festivities has been shot to death in Chicago.
Police say Hadiya Pendleton died after she was shot in the back while hanging out with a group of teens in Vivian Gordon Harsh Park about 2:30 p.m.
Pendleton was taking shelter from the rain under a canopy, when an unidentified man or boy jumped a fence and ran toward the group and opened fire, police said. The shooter then fled in a vehicle. The man fled the scene in a vehicle. No arrests have been made.
A teenage boy was also shot in the leg during the shooting, which occurred in the 4500 block of South Oakenwald Avenue, near King College Prep High School.
The pair was taken to University of Chicago Comer Children’s Hospital, where Pendleton died at 3:10 p.m., according to police and the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.
Hadiya belonged to the King College Prep High School band, which performed at several inaugural events in Washington, D.C.
Police said Pendleton was not a gang member and was most likely not the shooter’s intended target. But most of the teens with her, who also fled the scene, are believed to be gang members, police said.
Residents of the upscale, white-collar neighborhood were dismayed by the shooting, which some said was a first for their block.
"I was torn apart, shocked. I cried when I heard about it," said resident Robin Hollis, who has lived across the street from the park for about 20 years
Wait say that again...upscale white collar neighborhood! Do they do any fact checking. Since when is the s 4500 block of oakenwald an upscale white-collar neighborhood. anything to advance the liberal agenda and anti gun fodder. Fools
I've been a violent crime detective and supervisor for many years; however, I'm embarrassed to admit that I just can't find a COMMON denominator between these victims. SCC, I'm stumped!
Chalkie...what were your 2013 furlough picks?
The so called " black leaders & clergy "have betrayed their own race by not facing & exposing the true cause of violence among their own, and have merely profited from it and lined their own pockets...sorta like the Illinois & Chicago politicians of all colors.
These reporters are not reporters at all. All they do is repeat what is told to them. They are more like parrots. The Supt. of police lies to them by giving inaccurate facts and they go out and repeat exactly what he said.
Don't ban guns, ban STORES!
CHEER UP RAHM..HELP IS ON THE WAY!
Fox News reports that the fine Democommies of the Blue State of Vermont are pushing legislation to be able to end their life whenever they want to. They can go to a doctor, for any reason and after waiting the mandatory week, be euthanized. No reason need to be given.
I can't wait for this to come to Chicago. "Oh the four dead in the alley" They euthenized themselves, No murder here"
Who's fault is this?
"No, this is a family tragedy. And we're sure someone from Rahm's office will be delivering a script to momma's house shortly about how we need more gun laws..."
This shooting already forgotten -- here's a better one, and the White House will be sending someone!
OH, SHIT.
Boy, watch this machine WORK!
White House calls slaying of girl, 15, a 'terrible tragedy'
2:34 p.m. CST, January 30, 2013
"As it pushes for national gun control, the White House on Wednesday addressed a tragic shooting close to President Barack Obama's home in Chicago.
"Fifteen-year-old Hadiya Pendleton, who last week performed at Obama's inaugural festivities, was killed when a gunman opened fire on a group of students just blocks from King College Prep and about a mile from Obama's home in Kenwood on the South Side.
"Presidential spokeman Jay Carney, asked about Hadiya's death, said it was a “terrible tragedy” any time a young person is struck down “with so much of their life ahead of them.”
“The president and first lady's thoughts and prayers are with the family of Hadiya Pendleton,” he said. “All of our thoughts and prayers are with her family.”
"Carney, asked about a petition urging President Barack Obama to attend Pendleton’s funeral, said he was not aware of the petition and had no scheduling announcements to make."

Still an hour to get ready for the 4 PM news...
How the f__k can there be "a petition urging Obama to attend Pendleton's funeral" in like twelve minutes?

It's unCommon.
Just in. Ammo sales up quite nicely.
Olin (OLN) said the backlog for its Winchester ammunition unit has multiplied nearly 10-fold since the end of 2011, and it expects business to stay strong in the months ahead thanks partly to consumer demand that's being stoked by the debate about new firearms laws.
At the close of the year, Winchester's commercial backlog stood at $138 million, up from $92 million at the end of September. Since 2013 arrived, Olin said demand has only continued to swell, with backlog reaching approximately $280 million in January. By comparison, the backlog on Dec. 31, 2011, was $29 million -- that's a leap of about 9.65 times in 13 months.
The Clayton, Mo., company said in a press release late Monday that Winchester started seeing heightened interest around the time of the November election "and the elevated level of demand continued through the balance of the year." During the fourth quarter, commercial volume, covering shipments to retailers, rose more than 20% from the same quarter the prior year, Olin said.
******
Olin's comments on Winchester's sales line up with anecdotes that have been surfacing for several weeks regarding high demand. While it's only one sample market, some stores in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, such as a Dallas Dick's Sporting Goods location and a Cabela's in Allen, are noticeably short of many ammunition brands and types, in particular popular ones such as the .22 long.
Prices, at least in cases, are rising as well. At a Fort Worth gun show in late December, 9mm cartridges were selling in the $17.95 to $18.95 range per box. Five weeks later, at another gun show in nearby Lewisville, dealers were displaying prices of $29.95 to $31.95.

Maybe Rahm can take his head out of his fouth point of contact and put some heat on the powers to be at 26th and Cal.....yeah right
Ban high capacity stores, no more than 2 check out lanes.
And ban " assault " stores like Jewel & Dominicks.
Chalkie...what were your 2013 furlough picks?

the only furloughs i pick are eternal.

"Since when is the s 4500 block of oakenwald an upscale white-collar neighborhood."

I remember that place 40-50 years ago - ROUGH AREA. There was a big public grade school there, Oakenwald School, long gone now. It was all-black...1962 when I'd go by? Abandoned RR tracks, the Chicago Junction used to fly up and over the IC mains and head west for the Stockyards, there was also a branch of the "L" there, shared the right-of-way. You can still see the embankments. That stretch was never Pill Hill, no way.
High risk lifestyles have a higher correlation to premature death than legal ownership of firearms.
Know how to stop the killing? Make the family of the gang banging offender do a Compstat report. Let em keep the gun, the bullits, the drugs, but require them to document the movemnts of their last 48 hours, name their associates , follow any vehicle that they have ever layed eyes on, track the benefits address of 7 of the last 8 baby mamas, and talk to pfather pflegher to get his bullshit perspective printed in our newspapers.
One word repeated several times, hahahahahHahHHahaha!
This act shall be known and may be cited as the Right to Bear Arms Protection Act
This is a joke, right? Please say no...
I guess that old Lyndon Johnson's War on Poverty really turned out to be a War on Black people. Talk about unintended consequences. No father...No family structure.
When you have 4 kids killed, does that say something about city violence or parenting skills?
One mother stated , they need to do something about the people who use these guns illegally. And the national news, didn't use her statement , the news said she stated , they need to do something about these guns. Funny how they have the freedom to use the wording that fits their agenda.
Two entirely different statements, no accurate reporting, our news is like a third world country. How many times have you heard the media interject opinions instead of reporting news?
How many times have you heard the media interject opinions instead of reporting news?

How many times have you heard the media reporting news instead of interjecting opinions?
So you fall all over yourself talking shit about these kids getting killed, and double shit about their mothers. Any punk can do that.
Where are your facts? If these kids had long rap sheets, get specific, don't just make it up.
That 15-year-old girl who was in Washington -- all you can say is that the reporter who wrote up the story doesn't know jack? What does that have to do with anything?
I don't know if you have kids, but some of you have mothers. Remember how she used to tell you to put your brain in gear before running your mouth?
Remember how she used to tell you to put your brain in gear before running your mouth?

What does that have to do with anything?
Well, as for the four chillins, at least some of your commenters asked, where are the fathers ?
