Vehicle Issues?

From the comments:
  • A/1 Fleet info said...Dont expect any more ford SUVs anytime soon. I work in fleet in the area 1 garage(yes, civilian) and the city has defaulted on the payments to ford for the explorers. Obviously we all first thought its business as usual just lost paperwork or slow payments from the city that works etc. Nope, the city is just no paying it. They told ford that they will pay the bill in full in six months. Ford fired back saying that no more deliveries will be made to the city of cars, parts etc until the bill is paid. City still says nope and ford is taking a hard line.

    So, what does this mean???

First off, the city and ford have a CONTRACT that usually keeps the required parts and vehicles flowing in as we need them or order them. Now, ford is screaming foul for breach of contract.. which, this is. Im guessing if the city continues to blow them off(which seems to be their intention) then we at fleet will be at a standstill with any repairs to any and all fords for new parts that we currently dont have in stock. We will have to use the restocks of the cars we have in our graveyard to pull used parts from. This will result in cars being down longer or extremely worn out and unsafe used parts being put on squad cars. Its a mess. Stay tuned for this one...
We don't know why Ford would be surprised at this. The city never pays bills on time and a number of companies have gone bankrupt waiting for a check from the city.

Clue to the readers - if you ever go into business with the Chicago, get paid up front. It'll never happen, but you'll still have your company a few years down the road.

    -----------------

What it means is that Ford has decided to conduct its business like it IS a business. They produce a product, they sell the product, they expect payment for the sale of the product, and, if they don't receive payment, they don't provide the product.
This is not a concept Big Government is accustomed to.

It is a well known fact that the City of Chicago is a deadbeat when it comes to paying.

That is, unless you are one of the connected companies like Walsh Construction, the trucking companies of Bridgeport and the like. They get paid first and always.

Don't believe it? The City owed me money on a damaged truck of mine. After a 6 month investigation into the damage (in the thousands) my claim was approved for payment. Then I called the Finance Committee (Ald Burke - chair) to see if I could find out when payment might be made. I was told I was in line to be paid, in two years!

Then I called an alderman whose office was on my beat, he always called me direct to get things done in his ward or when he wanted to impress a donor. I turned the tables on him and asked for his help getting my money.

I had a check in four days in my mailbox. They pay who they want to pay.

I suggest Ford repossess those cars like they would if I didn't make my car payment. And of course, tip off the media before they go in with those repossession orders.

Maybe they can hire Harry Dean Stanton and Emilio Estevez to reprise their roles in Repo Man and take the lead in the repossession.

I've been in this new truck for the City. It has a nice turning radius and drives nice, but if you're over six feet tall, like I am, the cabin is tight. Although my partner also complained and he's only 5'08". I had to keep stopping just to get out and stretch my legs. The chargers are also blocked by the PDT mount. I guess they couldn't figure out how to lower or raise the mount a few inches. In this day of electronics, one needs a charging station.

I do like that its a 4X4, but I like the room in the clangy Tahoe. Thank goodness it hasn't snowed much this winter.

We shouldve gone with the Taurus instead or Dodge Charger, but what do I know? Do we have a research and development department? Lmao! Yeah right.

Illinois pull down it's $500 million dollar bond sale that was suppose to go off yesterday. Officials said the bond sale was pulled because the market was "unsettled".

In other words the investors demanded a higher interest rate to loan the state money then the state was either willing or able to pay!

I would suggest that anyone who uses the income tax system as a forced savings piggy bank, or anyone that expects a tax refund to get their taxes done ASAP or you may find yourself getting an I.O.U. instead of your overpayment back.

If the state can't sell bonds, they have no money. The citizens tax refunds will be at the bottom of the list of payments. The citizens have no contract with due dates and penalties and interest for not getting a tax refund on time.

GET THOSE TAX FORMS IN IF YOU HAVE A REFUND COMING

Brakes are a maintenance item. Ford has nothing to do with maintaining the vehicle.

In virtually all cases you are precluded from suing an employer or their employees over work place safety.

Given lawyers get a chunk of the proceeds and there are not going to be any proceeds from such law suits, chances of getting a lawyer to file the lawsuits for you approaches zero.

An early example of what happens when a dept gets privatized and taken out of CPD overview. It's only going to get worse.

    Marvelous!

    Think about it.

The state already has an issue with it's bond sales and we may see city bond issues right behind it.

    I'll explain.

Many of the cities bond sales are based upon promises to pay the bond holders back from sales tax receipts.

Now I ask you what direction do you think the cities sales tax receipts are going since almost everyone got a 2% payroll tax increase on Jan 1 from Mr. "I am not going to raise anyone's taxes on people making under $250,000 dollars!"

Anyone paying into social security, the FICA tax, got hit with that tax increase on Jan 1.

In fact the people that it will have less of an impact on is the high rollers already contributing the max amount and up against the FICA tax limit.

Not to mention the hit on sales tax by the CTA price increases giving people less disposable income to spend.

Meanwhile the mayor and city council blow money on corporate tax breaks like the city has so much money it doesn't know what to do with it.

The real transfer of wealth...and it's not going to people on welfare as many think.

When if Rahm going to demand that the banks stop funding WalMart?

    WalMart is still selling ammo.

In fact WalMart just announced a rationing program of one or two boxes of ammo per customer per day they are selling so much of it.

I don't think that WalMart should be exempt from Rahm's gun agenda just because they don't sell ammo in the city.

On a side note the way the price of ammo is going I'd expect to see operation Barney Fife here soon.

DEKALB (AP) — Concerns over potential gun control legislation may be having an impact on Illinois law enforcement agencies.

WNIJ Radio (http://bit.ly/VvrChj) reports that some northern Illinois police departments say supplies are tight, making it more difficult to buy ammunition for officers.

DeKalb Police Chief Gene Lowery says lately his department is waiting two to five months for delivery on handgun ammunition. The police chief in Orland Park also cited demand issues when he asked the village board to approve an earlier-than-usual ammunition purchase.

Kent Williams owns Williams Shooters Supply in Quincy, which distributes ammunition commercially and to police departments. Williams says he's talked with manufacturers and they are definitely aware of the growing waiting list for police departments. Williams predicts his company will have problems making timely deliveries for most of 2013.

The very same computers that are broken and the techs told us they are too old to be repaired anymore.
Who decided to waste the money on reprograming computers that are broken and will no longer be repaired ??

As they fail they will be tossed into dumpster.

My guess is some clouted firm needed money but they do not sell computers. So we waste the money that could be used to replace them on re-programming them.

Ford runs a business the way it should be run. This is why they didn't need a bailout from the government. If rham thinks they are going to cave, he better start sawing out the bottom of the squads and have ya'al use Fred Flintsone power!

I am not surprised by this information. The City does this all the time and why any company would do business with the City is a joke. Any company that gets paid on time is always a clout heavy politically connected one. Ford doesn't need the City for survival. If the City continues not to pay this bill don't be surprised if Ford shuts down their Torrence Avenue plant in the near future. Stand your ground Ford. In the mean time my fellow officers if the car you have is unsafe down it do not take it out.

Mike shields is summoning all the unit reps to come to the FOP hall to review the city contract proposals, wonder how much mike will let us lose? Bueller anyone have any hard info?

    1/31/2013 12:26:00 AM

Shields and FOP leadership promised the Reps would be told first and then the proposals will go on the web site and be made public. That is, if the City's package is complete and not released in dribs and drabs.

Expect Megan WC to start the usual shit about conspiracy etc. because she is no longer an insider.

Ha. Do you really think she gives a shit anymore?

Ford does not sell cars to the city only a Ford Dealer can sell cars to the city. So the Ford Dealership that won the contract would be withholding the cars not Ford Motor Company.

And you know what else is on time? The pension checks. Last day of the month, like clockwork. Get out as soon as you can and I promise you will feel better almost immediately. Let a few months go by and you might be feeling like a human being again. My dentist has suggested a mouth guard because I gnash my teeth so much while sleeping. It isn't gone from my subconscious. Yet.
