Public-transportation users should to be allowed to carry guns on buses and trains.
The question surfaced during a hearing Tuesday aimed at meeting a federal court demand to draw up legislation permitting Illinoisans to carry concealed weapons. A top NRA lobbyist said he won’t bend on allowing bus and train riders to arm themselves.
“I don’t believe people who need public transportation to get around should be prohibited from exercising their constitutional right,” said lobbyist Todd Vandermyde, who later questioned the contradiction of a motorist being allowed to carry a gun in their vehicle but not a mass transit customer.
“Just because one is one economic status, they get rights. But because someone has to avail themselves of public transportation, they don’t get the right to self-defense? They’re supposed to roam around defenseless? Help me understand how that works,” he asked the Sun-Times.
Of course, all the regulars are in a tizzy, talking about "catastrophes" and "gun-free zones" and "bloodbath," completely forgetting that all sorts of cities with mass transit aren't experiencing anything like what they're predicting here.
And casting it as an economic issue is a good move. The Right to self defense isn't predicated on being it affordable.

The Democrats will do anything and everything to diminish the rights of gun owners. Legally they can get away with stuff like; no guns permitted within 1000 feet of a school or park, no guns in shopping malls, private businesses have the right to not allow guns on their property, no guns in buses and trains, no guns in public libraries, etc.

Why shouldn't patrons of the CTA carry guns to protect themselves. At least they are better off than the Police in Public Transportation who only seem to carry cell phones and talk all day instead of doing their jobs.

I watched most of the meeting {I had to click off when the anti-gun folks started talking because I had to clean off my keyboard}and one of the other things Vandermyde said was "It's either a right or it isn't." The 7th Circuit has ruled the right to bear arms IS A RIGHT.

Ask about a Benefactor membership while your at it.
Let them put up the signs proclaiming "Gun Free Zone" and take down the metal detectors from city hall, court buildings, City Council chamber room. Just for a year or two. Give up their right to carry concealed at the same time. The survivors would be convinced that:
1.Signs don't work
2.Reasonable people need protection from the unreasonable ones.
3.The city can't hire enough real police to assure everyone's safety at all times.
4.It wouldn't be any great loss if a bunch of thugs recieve dirt naps at the hands of a citizenry fed up with thugs.
Gunns are bad. Mumkay. Where would Chicago get the money to fix all the streetlights.

after reading previous article about the illegal search and seizure of private property by Police on another officer because they were TOLD to by someone in a white shirt that should have been brown (as in Obama's brown shirts)it's no wonder they don't want the citizens able to protect themselves.. nothing like a SCARED populace easier to keep them in control.. older officers should teach the young ones about how the brown shirts (excuse me white shirts)will throw them under the bus the first chance they get..they are being brainwashed from the start..In Hilary's own words it take a village to raise a child and older officers are the village wise men.. BTW many citizens actually do carry a weapon (illegally) on public transportation even in CHICAGO..
