New York Money in 2nd District Race

  • Second Congressional District candidate Debbie Halvorson on Monday accused New York City Mayor — and billionaire — Michael Bloomberg of trying to “purchase this election” from out of state, as new filings showed his SuperPAC’s spending on the Illinois race has now topped $2 million.

That’s one and a half times the amount of money raised by the top three candidates combined in the race to replace Jesse Jackson Jr.

“We cannot allow Bloomberg to buy this district from New York,” Halvorson said at a news conference Monday.

Halvorson is in a bitter battle over the seat, and her opposition to an assault weapons ban has repeatedly been targeted in TV ads purchased by Bloomberg’s Independence USA Pac. The committee is taking aim at candidates throughout the country who do not back President Barack Obama’s gun violence proposals. Halvorson has had scant financial firepower to defend herself — she has raised less than $50,000 on her own — and about half of that money she loaned to herself.

Whoa - a pro-gun democrat? With a former NRA rating of "A"? And Bloomberg doesn't like her? That should be plenty to get a bunch of votes of people ticked off at the "business as usual" crowd that runs the Second Congressional District.

In the meantime, typical Cook County politics are running amok as certain candidates drop out and endorse the approved Machine candidate with mere days to go.

For those of you keeping score Bloomberg is a republican turned independent. Not a democrat.

I'd like to think that voters were smart enough NOT to let the Mayor of NYC bully them into voting for "his" candidate, but these are the same voters that ... well, you know. Sad.

You can bet that 9.5 has something to do with that New York Jerk-Off getting involved with Illinois Politics.

The candidate who has now received over 1 million dollars in campaign support denies even knowing or ever having met Bloomberg! I guess it is normal to receive a million dollars in support from a stranger. That statement alone should disqualify the bitch, because she is lying already. What do you think she will do when elected? And she will win, just like Rahn did, because that outside money buys t.v. time.

I unfortunately think Halverson has no chance here. I'd love to see her win. What kind of a message do you think that would send?

Shouldn't there be laws against this sort of thing? How can a candidate in IL accept money or support from a left wing organization based in NY?

Maybe these people should adopt McDumbbells line of thinking--supporting candidates makes you a political terrorist?

Bloomberg is a far-left Progressive, no matter his party affiliation. Possibly the most anti-gun mayor in the USA.

He believes in total control by the Gov't.

Witness the soda laws he passed in NY. No Big Gulp for you! He knows better.

Does not matter what Bloomy is, other than to remember he is a carpet bagger just like Mcstreetlightshooter; and both are Ney York douchbags! But then again Rhambone needs help running our city and Bloomy just wants to help. Oh boy what a pair they will make in the White House!

For those of you keeping score Bloomberg is and always has been a Democrat. He used the Republican ballot spot as the Democrat one was taken for his first run. That's 8th grade politics buddy, try to keep up.

Let those super fund PACs spend their tax deductible mad money authorized by The supreme court of the land. How did that happen?

Oh, no one is watching lets sneak it in. Those corporations have lots of money to throw around. Now we can really create grid lock politics all over the country and make lots of money. screw those peons. Corporations are people too. just ask the supreme court.

Yes, the only position Kelly has is the fact she wants to help Obama ban assault style weapons. Nothing about jobs, taxes, development etc. Maybe that is because she does not have a position on those items? If you look at the entire field of candidates to include Halverson, the pickings are slim. No matter who wins I feel sorry for the residents of the 2nd Congressional District. They still will have no representation now that the cheap chislers known as the Jacksons are gone. And, of course, this race has turned racial. Anyone but a white person as congressman !!

Bloomberg is the Mayor of NYC and he is worth 5 billion dollars. He bought the mayoral election in NYC and he is hoping to do a repeat with our 2nd Congressional seat. But, why is he meddling in our Chicago-area politics? He wants the person from New York, Robin Kelly, to win the election. Something really smells. Vote for Debbie Halvorson!

OT:

WE'RE NUMBER ONE!!

Sources say that Miami-Dade County ranked second in the country’s top counties for people filing for bankruptcy in January 2013.

According to a report compiled by Ronald Mann, a professor at Columbia Law School, Miami-Dade experienced 626 bankruptcy filings per million adults.

In his report, Mann noted that Miami-Dade was only topped by Chicago’s Cook County, which ranked first by a wide margin, with 691 bankruptcy filings per million adults.

***

According to Mann, "[c]oming on the heels of news of an economic contraction in the last quarter of 2012, bankruptcy filings in January were surprisingly high. The January filings raise a likelihood of worsening filings to come in 2013."

I've never given money to a Democrat candidate in my life (nor do I live in that district) but I contributed some money on her website when I saw those ridiculous commercials the other day.

Assaults on liberty know no party affiliation. Once we throw the gun banners out of office, we can get to work on the spending-crazed lunatics in both parties.

It's the shape of things to come. Pretty soon all our politicians will be very moderate or liberal. There will not be any conservatives. Every liberal agenda will pass. It will be like the George Orwell book - the pigs moved into the house and recieved all the benefits and protections while the rest of the population toiled and worked their behinds off and received very little. Case in point- not one politician is willing to give up their their security detail and armed guards. However, they expect the rest of the population to relinquish their firearms.

I laugh at this race because of what is going on and the media isn't saying shit about it. But if it was reversed the media, elected officials and activist would be having a field day about it.

If the district had a white representative and there were 12 whites & 1 black running for the spot. And the black was in the lead and the other whites started dropping out and outside money started to run ads smearing the black candidate, everybody and their mother would be being called as "A RACIST" there would be every civil right person coming put of the woodwork crying about it.

But for now the way it is reversed there isn't even a peep
