It's Working!!!

  • Police Supt. Garry McCarthy said incidents in two neighborhoods on the same night this week showed police have the right strategy in reducing the number of 911 calls that officers respond to in person.

  • Police said, on Monday, two sets of incidents showed why the new guidelines should help officers respond more quickly to true emergencies.

On Monday, a caller in the Chicago Lawn District made an emergency call to report the catalytic converter had been stolen from his car. At the same time, in the same area, there were 911 calls for domestic disturbances.

Just after midnight that night, a 911 call from the Grand Central District reported a stolen wallet. At the same time, nearby, a caller said someone was being beaten.

McCarthy said, “Those are anecdotes that really support what we’ve been saying.”
Um....these two incidents show what exactly? OEMC receives how many tens of thousands of calls a day? We respond to how many thousands of those calls? And all that McStrategy#43 can find are two calls that might demonstrate a car was available....on a Monday night into Tuesday, a notorious slow time?

This isn't only a stretch of the truth, it's a stretch of the imagination.

But his strategy from day one was to focus on the little things because they prevent the major things from happening.

Where you wrong then or are you wrong now -- or maybe it's both?

O.T. Watch Your Children

In the 25th district last year, an officer's personal home was targeted. Gang bangers blew up a m80 in his back yard and tagged his garage up. Watch your children and make sure they do not associate with other kids that are involved in gang activities. As police officers sometimes earning that overtime check should be less of a priority than watching our own children.

What McWetBrain failed to relate was that the theft of the catalytic converter was the catalyst for the Baby Mama Domestic Drama.

And the person being beaten? That's because he refused to willingly comply with the request to hand over his wallet fast enough.

I can't recall another time when the desperation by those at the helm has ever been so enjoyable to watch.

Can someone please explain to me why in the fucking world if you are the police you would want to be a Facebook user? The entire idea is fucking insane. You are going to put up pictures of your darling wife, children and other relatives? Plus you are going to tell the entire world you are the big bad police officer? It's fucked up that a piece of shit criminal can find all about you in the internet age but you are going to make it much easier? OT From a citizen troll: Great episode of the First 48-Missing Persons last night. A very nice job by the CPD personnel and a great showcase of the CPD as people. Sad ending but the woman did what the woman was going to do and no one could have stopped her, not even her daughter. Interesting how the daughter and detective both lost their moms within weeks or so of each other. And by the way, is that Marine Unit something else or what? (Sgt. Ray, comb your hair, you are on national TV dude) I'd like to see the violent crimes detectives featured but because the citizens in this city are so much shit and the no snitch code is integral of Chicago values, probably best to leave Miami, Dallas and Harris County, TX as featured units. You do not want to show on national TV that you can kill someone in Rahms Chicago and have a 75% chance of getting away with it because your fellow citizens live by such an honorable moral code.

If we took 80% of you off the street there would almost be no difference in response times.Goahead look around the roll call room.the bosses ask for the most basic stuff like a contact card and you complain. $80'000 a year and you cant even do that. Not all of you but enough to have the citizens say wtf? Do your job. McCarthy is a joke and you don't work for him. You work for you and your family.

This statement is so true and very well said. Those doing the least complain the most, those doing the most complain the least. Then they run right to the blog and write pure crap because the Lt. or XO tries to get work out of them. They are so immature they resort to name calling and petty BS. Grow up people, you are the police. Many others than CPD read the blog, try a little professionalism when posting here. Some of us still proud to do the job.

We are still responding to nonsense calls. Last night a loud snowblower at 10pm, and an 11 year old kid that won't go to bed.
The useless parents that procreate and then decide they would rather call 911 and ask a cop to be the baby daddy or baby mama. It's nonsense and the insanity has not stopped. Mcknucklehead and mcrahmgoof can say all they want. They are full of lies and the killing wont stop because parents don't parent their kids anymore. Kids nowadays pregnant make a baby and that's where their responsibility stops.

Usually gramma or grandpa are the ones raising the kid that's why these children have no guidance and that's why they join gangs and are killing one another at an alarming rate.

This cycle will continue and no matter what bullshit strategy is put in place this is a way of life for people. It can't and won't be changed because we don't get total cooperation from all in the neighborhoods.

Remember we are only as good as the info we get from our eyes and ears on the streets.

The Mayor has no clue
The Superintendent has no clue
Anyone not living on the streets, in a project setting or attached to a gang has no clue

This is a way of life and no matter what everyone does or tries nothing will change

Take a pig, put a dress and heels on it and some makeup and a wig........you know what you have now , yes still a pig just looks different. That's what all these strategies are.

Wake up mr mayor
Wake up mr McCarthy
Wake up media

No matter how you paint it, dress it, or try to hide its still and will always be a PIG

Stay safe all

CPD Operation YoYo -- You're On Your Own.

This isn't going to play well in the reach out to the community strategy.

Vigilantism will be on the rise. Why?

I called 911 when they stole my catalytic converter and no-one showed. Yeah and I called when a guy that stole my wallet and no-one showed either....and I called when a guy started beating me and no-one showed.

CPD isn't going to do anything when you call them, You're On Your Own is the message!

What are we paying taxes for?

If things really go to hell like they are currently doing in places like LA? Who are the police going to protect? They will protect who they are ordered to protect.

They will protect their own first. The politicians second and the corporate business owners doing the campaign contributions third.

People of Chicago. You're On Your Own.

In LA a threat is made against a cop and 50 officers are assigned as personal body guards of the cops. If an average citizen gets a threat of homicide violence I don't see any mass forces being assembled for any of them. Get real right, but it's the truth.

Trying to play this illusion that we have a police force to protect the people is a farce and to top it off the politicians want to create an environment where we can't protect ourselves.

You're On Your Own.

If the caller insisted to talk to a 9-1-1 supervisor - in 10 out of 10 cases the supervisor would crap him/herself and tell the call taker to " send the Police ". Same thing still going on ??? These strategies are a joke!

I was listening to WBBM radio last weekend AND ONLY NOW are a few leaders in the south and west side communities pointing a very weak finger at the failures of parents and leaders in those locations. I say a weak finger, because one of the "reverends" believes the answer is to throw more money at the problem.

The solution, I believe, is to take social welfare money away from these areas. There are opportunities for these young people if they stay in school, work hard at their studies, get part-time jobs that will lead to other employment. Or, if we continue to throw money at the problem, make the recipients accountable for what they receive and limit the amount of time they receive benefits.

The gang banging kids and their dysfunctional homes get enough free benefits that leaves them with plenty of time to get involved in illegal activities. Take away the benefits. Make them work for their living like the rest of us. Have leaders of their communities hold them responsible. Do these things and I bet THAT STRATEGY will work better then McCarthy's.

On another radio program, someone was saying how there are very few GED programs on the south side. One person, in his early 20's was lamenting how terribly difficult it is for him to commute to a location to get his GED and that just makes it not worth the effort. The question was never asked why didn't he stay in school in the first place. The second point is that the reporter did not take him to task for all of his excuse making in why he is not going for his GED anyway.

Want a strategy that will work to end violence in these volatile areas? Then get leaders who encourage and demand that people build themselves up and improve their lives, instead of waiting for it to be done for them.

He said that he knows for a fact that 95 percent of gang members in Chicago do not want to be in a gang, do not want to shoot and kill each other, do not want to sell and use drugs; and they want to get up in the morning and go to work at a legit job, they want to go to high school and college, they want to own and care for a home.

Father fleiger said he knows this because he has been talking to these gang members every day for decades. Fleiger said "herelies the problem - you cannot just tell gang members to stop the shooting and drug dealing and gang banging - you cannot just tell people to stop doing something without giving them options - you have to provide them with the options and give them a job and a home and a college degree."

Need I say more?

Rahm and the Democrats want to do that because the "reverunds", CeaseFire and so-on can deliver votes while Cops and Firemen vote Republican or don't vote at all.

2/08/2013 02:59:00 PM

If you want to get ahead, you will. If you want to suceed, you will.

Back when, I had an unplanned semester attending the University of Judge Saul Epton at 937 N Wood St. That ended my formal high school education. Afterwards I got my GED and didn't complain, I just got it.

That GED got me through a career as a police officer on the Chicago Police Department. Now I have a BA and am working on a Masters, while retired.

No LINK cards, No food stamps, no bastard felons for children. No crying looking for someone to blame my plight on. I was headed south. Judge Epton told me that from that day on I would head north. That man changed my life. For the better. That was after his conversion to conservativism.

Now if anyone had been aorund to give me free shit I doubt I would have valued what I had to work hard to attain. But you don't know these things until later, often much later.

We are doing the black community a profound diservice by giving so much in the name of "help." It does the opposite of what is intended. Of course you can't make anyone believe this. I know it because I lived it. But it is rare that I can convince anyone. I just did my part in being tough but fair.

If Judge Epton were still around I would love to go thank him for saving my ass.

Actually, it was in 16.

My job is to answer calls. If I wanna do police work I will lock people up, but when the DSS only bitches we need more contact cards it human nature to talk about and laugh at it.

If you wanna do some police work go do a traffic stop, go lock someone up, lots of police work to do. NOT CONTACT CARDS.

Yes, people pay into SS and pensions and pay something for medicare so they claim these are not entitlements. But, honestly, these programs were created by law, did not exist before the law was passed and could go away at any time if the legislators so voted. And, the amount that a person pays into these programs is recovered within a few short years by the recipitant and then the person is collecting from the general fund which is made up of tax money paid by others and subsidized by everyone. So that in my book is an entitlement which is becoming increasingly hard to keep going. The new study shows that social security will start going in the negative column in 2016, medicare right behind it.

2/08/2013 04:25:00 PM
These type of assignments have been going on for many years. The pay scales of the police department are higher then other city departments. If you put a civilian into a police department position and give them a title, they will get the money and they really do not have to work in or for the police department. When Harold was mayor the first deputys office had three directors who never set foot in the building or did a lick fo work for the police dept. It can be a way of taking care of people.

Well in 017 we have 1720R to do everything and assign us everything because we are all dogs.

By the way regarding all this stress that builds up that we have and then in roll calls we are told by 1701R that if we have stress problems not to go on meds because the department will refer to us as "nuts". he claimed ther are "nuts" in every district....

So the solution is to go be a town drunk I guess and risk the DUI's as the old Irish solution seems to be the Gaelic police answer.....

No wonder there are police suicides...

Really? I say bullshit to this comment. I worked with a guy for years and he always seemed decent. Then he received a series of affirmative action promotions. When he made deputy chief he jumped on the band wagon of nepotism, cronyism and ass kissing that they fall into. Once you get that rank and power you sure do not want to give it up and will do what you are told. Even lieutenants who rail against the politics of this job are doomed and they know it. Why do you think that every superintendent, they have contracts and some protection by city ordinance, do what they are told by City Hall? Why do you think that they sell out the average hardworking officers. Just look at the captains promotion process under Hilliard? They know that if they play ball good things will come to them when they finally step down.
