Robbery Suspect Shot, Apprehended

  • Chicago police chased a robbery suspect from River North into Bucktown and shot him after he tried to run over an officer, according to authorities.

Police said the man wanted in more than a dozen robberies of North Side convenience stores and restaurants. He was wounded after robbing a Subway shop on State Street just north of Chicago Avenue, police said.

Officers working a robbery mission team pursued an SUV that matched the description of one fleeing the scene to the intersection of North, Milwaukee and Damen avenues. The man tried to run over an officer after backing into a squad car, police said in a statement.
Fantastic job all around.

But did you guys get any Contact Cards afterward?

The use of vehicles as weapons against police has become almost a daily occurrence. Bring back shotguns.

Even Joe Biden says that shotguns "will scare an intruder..."

And to the offender here is what's in store for you;
The Offender will probably get five years for all this property damage and robberies! In court they will say nobody got hurt and it was only money and property damage!

Not sure what you mean. The car info was broadcast over zones 3 and 4. At least 4 or 5 SUVs got stopped in the 20 mins after the robbery. Not sure why hou didnt hear it. I would have liked to catch this guy too but sometimes someone else beats you to it. Plus the car information was just found earlier in tbe day and was given to the zone to give out. So no bad precedent here. Just a good job by everyone that night

Hey SSC, I love your work and I want to tell you thank you for all your insight on various City and governmental "back door" deals, lies & corruption. With that said, I want to give you a heads up on proposed legislation that is directed straight at you: A recently introduced bill in the Illinois state Senate would require anonymous website comment posters to reveal their identities if they want to keep their comments online.
The bill, called the Internet Posting Removal Act, is sponsored by Illinois state Sen. Ira Silverstein. It states that a “web site administrator upon request shall remove any comments posted on his or her web site by an anonymous poster unless the anonymous poster agrees to attach his or her name to the post and confirms that his or her IP address, legal name, and home address are accurate.”
The bill, which does not ask for or clarify requirements from entities requesting the comment removal, would take effect 90 days after becoming law.
It seems that sites like SSC are getting to the political asshats!!! They will do anything to shut you up!

OT, but I hope someone can answer this question. When a person is taken to a hospital and dies of natural causes, who lived alone and had no known relatives,(known, that is, to this person's tenants who lived on his property), what becomes of their home, their possessions? My uncle lived in our family home in Chicago, and had a tenant in an apartment behind the home. This home was bought by my grandfather in 1920, and was the birth home of my late father and myself. His brother, my uncle, lived alone in this house and we had no immediate contact with him, other than writing him letters and sending Christmas cards (my late father and uncle were sadly estranged for many years.) He did have our home address and our phone number. When I didn't hear from him at Christmas, I sent a friend to check up on him, (we lived out of state) and found out that he had died in the hospital from a heart attack and that his body was at the Chicago Morgue for the last six months..this was in the late 70s. The house mortgage was in arrears of x amount of dollars, and a realty firm had bought the house. No one tried to contact me, and the house and all the family mementos and personal property of my family are gone..my grandfather emigrated to the US in 1890 and everthing he and his wife accumulated was gone...and the house and land sold to a realty firm. The Morgue told me my uncle wound up being buried in a pauper's grave in Indiana. Can someone tell me what the usual procedure would be by the City of Chicago in a case like this? I feel this is an example of how citizens can be ripped off in death. Could someone please explain to me why no efforts were made to contact a relative? Thank you.

2/21/2013 01:32:00 PM

1. no one was 'ripped off' in death; only, perhaps, those blood relatives still living who chose to define 'family' as 'writing a few letters and sending a card once a year'.

2. the efforts to be made 'contacting relatives' are better made while all relative relatives are still breathing. there has been in existence for some time a device called a telephone.

3. whether your uncle and your father had been 'estranged' or not, did this impose upon you a duty to also act as 'estranged' relatives? except, of course, until your uncle was no longer here, when his property, personal or otherwise, became of interest to you?

4. the value of any given thing is shown by the effort(s) made to care for that any given thing. your efforts appear to have been minimal, thus the value you placed upon what you are feeling has been 'ripped off' from you is shown to be meager, to you, at best.

Chicago’s Scientific Violence Reduction Plan

Two pronged approached

Gary has a theory that cold weather reduces violence. Rather than address the symptom (violence)…address its underlying cause (warm weather).

How? Duh. Global warming! Eliminate carbon emissions and temperatures in the US will revert back to those experienced during the ice age. It’s that simple.

Cold weather…no violence. Chicago will be safe. Oh and for shits and giggles……take away the guns too.

In the city of Chicago, when the det's handling a death investigation have exhausted all available means to locate/contact the next of kin of the deceased, the property is sealed and the Public Administrator's Office is contacted. They will then begin a more in depth search for any next of kin. If none is found, then the property is turned over to the city/county/state, whatever. You can call their office and have those questions answered. From experience, there have been too many times when trying to find any info as to next of kin has been like looking for a needle in a haystack. Don't know why, personal choice maybe, name changes, etc. Just so you know, it is not always that easy, and sorry to hear all those momentos were lost to you.

I will be going to the CPSA hall on 11 Mar 13 at 1000 hours. I implore all retired Sgt.s to go there to watch the counting of the ballots. If we as group are not allowed in then you know the fix is in. Remember 25% of the active membership still pays FOP dues and they will not be voting for this POS. The CPSA has a large hump to get over to pass this. Don’t let them steal our earned benefits.

Thank you.

There was probably more energy spent trying to locate you than you spent keeping in touch with your uncle.

OT - to 2/21 at 8:46pm...

Thank you for your clear explanation. It is interesting to note that the surname of my uncle and that of myself and my brother is a very unusual one, and there are only two of us living in the United States...yet, my brother was never contacted and he is in the phone book. I will call the Public Administrator's office as you suggest. It is sad to realize that all mementos of my father's family are gone. It is sad on so many levels. Again, thank you.

I love the guys that always comment on an officer's marksmanship when they shoot a bad guy and he dosen't die. Sometimes you can put bullets in all the right places and these guys will still live. Most of the goofs that make these comments have probably never pulled a trigger on another person, they just plug holes in paper and think that gives them credibility. Save your dirty harry talk for the recruits.

In reference to 29 and a day...

You are right about Son of Sam but dead wrong about the Hydia killer. The reason that shit stain was caught was because Oblunder, mor-Rahm, and mcstupid turned it into a media spectacle and put a butt load of money/resources in to finding him.

Good police work is one thing a bunch of bobble heads politocos making empty promises to team hair gel is not. That's just what our democratic leaders do every day, carrot and stick.

29 and a day said..

not waving the compnay flag Butcontact cards helped catch the jas who shot Hydia.

And to the offender here is what's in store for you;
The Offender will probably get five years for all this property damage and robberies! In court they will say nobody got hurt and it was only money and property damage!

As Police we do our part!

it was neither 'snarky', nor 'bitter'; though, from your reply, it was accurate.

and, since you actually read it, you didn't ignore it, though i do believe you will discount it.

hopefully, your younger relatives won't do unto you, as you, per your original posting, have done unto your father's brother.

You are one ugly, foul, and I repeat, bitter individual. Trolls like you come in all shapes and size...someone must have stepped on you hard, we can read it in your wording, and all you know is scarcasm, and rude, unsolicited advice about someone you know nothing about. You are to be pitied and shunned, like we are about to do right now. Now go troll another blog and dump your waste somewhere else. You've been outted for the classless individual that you are.

As stated, you will discount it.

Per your original post:

1. 'This home was bought by my grandfather in 1920, and was the birth home of my late father and myself. His brother, my uncle, lived alone in this house and we had no immediate contact with him, other than writing him letters and sending Christmas cards (my late father and uncle were sadly estranged for many years.)'

So, you establish that you chose to have 'no immediate contact' with your uncle. You chose.

2. 'He did have our home address and our phone number.'

And did that fact mean that, as a rule, you expected him to contact you?

3. 'When I didn't hear from him at Christmas, I sent a friend to check up on him, (we lived out of state) and found out that he had died in the hospital from a heart attack and that his body was at the Chicago Morgue for the last six months.'

So, you didn't hear from him, at all, for six months. Six months, minimum.

4. 'The house mortgage was in arrears of x amount of dollars, and a realty firm had bought the house.'

So, while you, having had no contact with your uncle, your father's brother, for a minimum of six months, know absolutely nothing about his well being, the financial status of his real property results in, presumably, a completed foreclosure, sale of said foreclosed property, and clearance of same.

5. 'No one tried to contact me, and the house and all the family mementos and personal property of my family are gone.'

Are you implying that 'someone' should have contacted you, as in, had a duty to contact you?

6. '..my grandfather emigrated to the US in 1890 and everthing he and his wife accumulated was gone...and the house and land sold to a realty firm.'

So, your concern here, as stated, is for the personal property accumulated by your uncle and aunt, by marriage, and the house and land, 'sold to a realty firm'. Who do you think sold the 'house and land' to said realty firm? Might it have been the lender who foreclosed on a mortgage debt in default? A mortgage debt in default which you, presumably, had no knowledge of? Because you hadn't had any contact with your uncle for at least six months, if not longer?

7. 'I feel this is an example of how citizens can be ripped off in death. Could someone please explain to me why no efforts were made to contact a relative? Thank you.'

So, you feel that these events, which you have described, are an example of 'how citizens can be ripped off', with the citizen being ripped off 'in death' being, presumably, your uncle? Fascinating.

Could someone explain to you why the sequence of events, as you described them, establish that you, and you alone, were irresponsible in your failing to maintain more than casual, intermittent contact with your father's brother, contact so casual that you didn't know your uncle had passed from this world for at least six months, didn't know that his home was foreclosed upon and sold to a realty firm, didn't know that said property was cleared of all of the former owner's personal property, and, at this late date, seem only to be concerned about said personal property, as well as placing blame and finding fault with anyone, other than yourself?

Someone?

Anyone?
