The Start of a Bright Idea

  • It’s not too early for people to start making plans for the money that would be raised by casinos which have not been approved yet.

State Sen. Bill Cunningham (D-Chicago) said 20 percent of the revenue of the city-owned casino in Chicago should go to the city’s police and fire pension funds.

“First of all I am confident that eventually the General Assembly will approve a Chicago casino and what I hope to do with this bill is at the very lease to start a discussion. The City of Chicago is looking at a pension ramp-up in the coming years that is going to come with about a $700 million price tag,” said Cunningham.

Cunningham said the gambling forces came close enough passing legislation the governor wouldn’t sign, that he is comfortable looking at more casinos in the state in the near future.
20% should be a starting point of discussion.  The fact is, the City of Chicago ought to devote most, if not all of the casino revenue to retiring old debt and fulfilling pension obligations prior to initiating any new spending programs.

We all know that government grows to meet the size of its revenue stream. Rahm and the Machine ought to temper that urge for the time being and settle up what's been promised first.

Here is what Bill is leaving out.

Just like all the lottery money had to go to education... what they then did was subtract what the lottery was giving to education from the money the state was originally giving to education, thus just a shell game they were playing.

In order for this to really work it must state in the law that the 20% the casinos are giving to the pensions CANNOT be deducted from any other money being paid to the police and fire pensions...

This way there really is a surplus going to the pensions.

But good old Bill Cunningham won't do that... since he is a rubber stamped Michael Madigan electee...

It's all smoke and mirrors since Cunningham comes from the 19th Ward which is made up of a lot of cops and firemen... It sounds great....

Till you realize it is just like the Illinois Lottery Scam with education.

Sorry Bill... Keep your 20%!

What makes anyone think that a casino run by the city would make money? The lotto makes money cause its basically subcontractors doing all of the work and sending money into the state. Imagine if you had to go to a government building to buy lotto tickets? It'd be a money pit disaster, just like every other govt run enterprise. This city owned casino will need people to work in it, can you imagine if the hotel you stayed at or the restaurant you ate at was staffed with the same type of people who work for the govt? Streets and San, CTA, CPS? Those businesses wouldn't last a week. And you think a casino is going to make it? No way.

Who wants to ride on a Boeing plane after this? Especially that new Dreamliner?

---------------------------------------

Boeing Co. engineers approved a new four-year contract that will help the planemaker reduce its pension liability, even as technical workers rejected the offer and gave their union the authority to call a strike at any time.

The plan was approved by 5,691 engineers, or 54 percent of votes, the Society of Professional Engineering Employees in Aerospace said today. The union was granted strike authorization by 3,316 engineers, or 56 percent of votes in that tally, though it is a moot approval since the contract passed. Of the technical workers, 3,104 or 53 percent voted against the contract and 3,796 or 64 percent gave strike authorization.

The 23,000 engineers and technical workers, mainly at Boeing’s Seattle-area manufacturing and development hub, had been working without a contract since November.

Boeing sweetened its offer last month to match the 5 percent annual pay-raise pools from the last contract, after the group voted against its previous proposal in October. The deal would move new employees into a 401(k)-style retirement plan instead of the traditional pension. The union had warned that the switch would reduce retirement benefits, divide the workforce and lead to the elimination of the pension entirely.

Boeing engineers are helping to investigate the 787 Dreamliner’s battery faults last month that have kept the new model grounded since Jan. 16. They’re also helping the Chicago- based planemaker boost production to a record this year and develop upgrades to its 737, 777 and 787 jet. Technical workers act as liaisons between engineers and machinists.

Can you trust the vote counts?

We have to resort to a casino as a revenue generator. Heres an idea, cut corporate taxes in illinois and i bet taxable revenue will increase. Cut the state, county and city budgt by 10% across the board and lower property taxes a few percentage points. Cut over generous entitlement payments i.e. link, housing, bs child care funding.

Thank god Professor Daley from the Univ of Chicago is handing out advice to Gary, Indiana how to solve its problems. Take the time to think, the rest of the state of Indiana is thriving and debt free. Hmmmm whats the common denominator?

The only problem with this idea is Rahm.
Rahm tends to do only what Rahm wants and Rahm has no intention of honoring our pension obligation.
Rahm will do anything and everything to fuck with our pensions. He'll refuse to let gambling proceeds go for pension debt .... instead he'll say it's "for the children" and he's "protecting the taxpayers".

Keep in mind please, exactly what this article states, That is 'one' State Senator believes 20% of city-owned revenue 'should' go to police/fire pension funds.
I recall Rahm, when pushing for a city casino, indicating that the revenue would go toward...'education.'
Quinn's disapproval stems from involvement, jurisdiction, and management and indicated that he does not object to directing the revenue toward 'education' as well.
So, first we'd need a casino in Chicago with oversight.
Then we would have to have a reasonable percentage of revenue directed into the pension fund(s). Finally, that money should NOT be in lieu of, but in addition to, the city/state required pension obligation.
We all know how it SHOULD work.
Then again, we've all seen how things are done.

How about all ticket and ANOV fines go into the pension funds of the police pension fund. Once that is fully funded, we fund the firemans and then the rest of the city pension funds. The city does not have to come up with new money and we can stop threatening officers to write citations. I would say that officers would freely write hundreds of citations if they knew the money was going to support the pension. As an added bonus the city would reduce crime because officers would be active, stopping numerous cars. The other unions would love us for funding the pensions and Rahm would be viewed better by all unions. Why wait for a casino?

They said the taste of Chicago lost 1.3 million dollars in revenue last year. They read a quote from Rahm from last year stating the taste was being privatized so the city makes more money. Now that it shows the city lost money Rahm states its not about the city making money its for family fun and safety. There's that safety thing again. They further stated the red light cameras generated 69 million dollars for the city last year. The announcers laughed and stated oh I thought Rahm said the cameras were for safety not revenue. Just keep changing wording to fit Rahms agenda!!!

19 February 2013 Last updated at 21:04 ET

Montreal city hall raided by anti-corruption police
Montreal's city hall has been raided by anti-corruption police seeking evidence of fraud and breach of trust.
Other offices of the Canadian city and of Union Montreal, former Mayor Gerald Tremblay's party, were also raided.
Mr Tremblay and the mayor of Laval have both stepped down amid allegations related to the construction industry.
Further details on the targets of the inquiry were unavailable; A police spokeswoman said the raid was part of a two-year investigation.
As the raid started about 16:00 EST (21:00 GMT), all officials and staff were told to leave the building, though some were held back for questioning.
Anne-Frederick Laurence, spokeswoman for anti-corruption police squad Unite permanente anti-corruption (UPAC), said more than 120 officers took part in the search and that officials were planning to question 25 people, including politicians, in relation the investigation.
"No charges have been laid," she said.
Louise Harel, the leader of the Vision Montreal party, told the Montreal Gazette newspaper she believed it was the first time police ever had raided city hall.
"We wanted a big clean-up at city hall. Now that clean-up is starting and I have confidence in UPAC," she said. "I have confidence that they're working for good reasons, but I don't know what those reasons are."

It is an old trick in this police department to ask for applicants for a particular position. The hapless dupes will dutifully submit their carefully compiled resume and fill out a very sincere application and then the world-wide search commences.

And then the brother or cousin of the heavy weight who was picked to get the spot all along will be declared the new Chief of Out of State Criminal Extradition and Vacation Spot Inspection or whatever and start reaping the bounty.

There won't be a selection process, are you new here? The applicants are merely cover to artificially legitimize the rigged process devised by the Division of Phony Baloney Job Handing Out.

Do you or anyone really think anythng in this City is done fairly? Hell, the fucking red lights are rigged by clout, speed bumps in alleys require a phone call. Getting a new garbage can in your alley needs someone who knows someone who knows a guy who makes a call.

The fucking homeless piss bums call their clout to get the best underpasses to flop under.

This whole fucking place is rotten to the core!

Just put thee casino in and lets go. I still say the Congress is going to be the likely spot. Just a park stroll away from a gambling boat if the need for gambling on water arises.
