New Judge - No Experience

  • When the Illinois Supreme Court acted to fill a vacancy on the Cook County bench this year, it looked no further than the chambers of one of its own — Justice Charles Freeman.

There the high court found law clerk Jean Cocozza.

Cocozza got her law degree in 1989, but she has no courtroom experience as a defense lawyer, as a prosecutor or as a litigator of any kind, according to her work history. Half of Cocozza's resume is devoted to talking about her service with her building's condominium association and with her church parish.

No bar association had independently evaluated her work to see whether she was fit to be a judge, and she had not appeared before any judicial screening committee.
Yet, this person is now "shadowing" a judge in Traffic Court and "learning the ropes."  Learning, we might add, at $182,000 annually.

Keep an eye out - she might be running some trials for you shortly.

Anybody who was wondering if the Illinois Supreme Court would stand in the breach to defend us when King Michael legislates pensions down to 50 cents on the dollar, we can answer that one now...

Whelp, it goes right along with the overcrowded state and county prisons.

Yep, they're gonna let 'em out early and the CTA has started an apprenticeship program for the ex-offenders too!

Can't you just see it?

Yes driver I'd like a transfer and a dime bag please.

Oh and the CTA is worried about guns?

There shouldn't be a problem with an ex-offender attracting people with guns to ride on the CTA, right? Like home boys or rival gang members?

A "magic" judge. Hidden amongst the chaff is this diamond in the rough. What brilliant work to find a ready made judge right there under their noses.

What did you inspect? World wide search followed by competive exam? A legit search process? Shit, this is still Illinois.

This must be how that legally insane judge made it, plucked from a well deserved obscurity. What is she making, $182,000 a year? With a pension. Her parents must be proud at how fortunate she was to be born of the proper lineage.

Now if she were a Daley she would have been made years ago.

Those Church's are something. They are like a human resources department for the County. When Dorothy Brown got in, almost immediately Church ladies from her 'parish' flooded the Bridgeview Clerk's office. It was amazing.

Oh, and speaking of the Clerk's office, can someone explain why the Bridgeview courthouse Clerk's office charges people for copies of their tickets and paperwork and the Markham courthouse does not? And copies of wills at the two courthouses have different fees? Shouldn't fees be the same throughout the County?

Just axeing.

This is TOTALLY bad - BUT, it isn't the only case of Cook County Judge incompetence.

You have Brim. She isn't the female Oliver Wendell Holmes of the Courts - that's for sure. She is more like Oliver O. Oliver if you remember him from his days in Chicago.

There are others that have also slipped in because of minorities sweeping in Berrios - and whoever else is riding on his coattails.

As I say to clients, you take your chances going into Cook Country Courts because you never know who you might wind up with as judge.

Next case.

Have you noticed that the majorty of those elected to public office and have taken oaths to uphold the US Constitution today are instead tearing the Constitution apart amendment by amendment.

Seriously, no tin foil hat conspiracy stuff look at the facts.

The President is like a king now. The congress has granted him authority under the NDAA to kill US citizens using drones if he desires. No trial, no evidence needed.

We have wiretapping without a warrant going on. Right to due process gone at will. First amendment free speech on it's way out. Right to bear arms under attack.

These are no small splinter groups made up of extremist. These are our elected officials in congress.

The banks. Holder has admitted that in spite of the bankers frauds that the big banks don't have to play by the laws. They're to big and hold the economy hostage and so the DOJ just backs off.

We hope that it doesn't go this way but I think if you check your history books this is how civil wars start.

The banks don't have to play by the rules. The president doesn't have to play by the US constitution and who in Congress is holding anyone accountable?

Yep,its true They tried to include them a few years back, judges challenged them and this time they dont want to be challenged by the judges. Actually a bad situation, how does a judge decide a case regarding the judges pension. He would be a traitor or at least have conflict of interest, but they are excluded

Not a rumor, it is truth. The politicians in their wisdom didn't want judges to be voting on their own pension cuts so they are guaranteed their pensions, as are Richard M Daley and all other scum politicians.

So when these pension laws make their way to the courts, the judges will not have to worry about choosing between doing the right thing or cutting pensions. They are guaranteed to be kept whole.

Scum sucking bastards.

It is the Insurance Committee, not Health Insurance Comittee. It has no power over health insurance anyway. They look at stuff like supplemental policies for retirees and active PO's. They listen to pitches and vote on whether to allow offers to be made to the membership. Not a big deal, don't try to make it into one. You could get on that committee or even sit in on meeting if you can spare some time. A little more time is necessary than for an anonymous blog post perhaps.

You are so wrong. A few years ago, my son had a flat on I 55 eastbound just past the La Grange entrance and needed a lug wrench. A State Trooper pulled behind our car to assist while we got the tire changed. Didn't mind changing it since we and every car owner should know how to change a flat, but with cars flying by at 70mph, I was so very grateful he was there. Wished this would have happened to you.

Agreed, 06;04pm. A few years back, I was driving a covert pretty fast, following a target. ISP pulled me over and I had to let the target run. Pulled onto the left emergency lane on the Ryan and heard the tire blow. Covert car, cheap lug wrench, tight lug nuts. I STOOD on that thing and couldn't make it budge. ISP guy took over and changed the tire for me. Not only that, but he was professional and pleasant.

Over my 29 years I was treated with courtesy and professionalism by every Illinois State Police Officer I had contact with. I had occasion to get pulled over for speeding a number of times and never got a ticket. Those guys got all courtesy due from me always. There was I-90/94 running through my district and I always backed up ISP. They are out there on the highway working alone, one man cars, and when they needed backup, I hurried over, always.

Retired now but ISP are the best, always.
