Quinn Tells Lisa "Waste Money!"

  • Gov. Pat Quinn today called on Atty. Gen. Lisa Madigan to appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court a court order that requires Illinois to approve legislation this spring that would let citizens carry guns in public.
The governor's move ramps up pressure on Madigan, a potential rival to Quinn in the March 2014 Democratic primary campaign, to keep the court fight alive. The Illinois General Assembly is working on fashioning legislation to put a concealed weapons law in place.

At issue is a December decision by the U.S. 7th Circuit Court of Appeals that ruled Illinois’ decades-old ban on allowing citizens to carry concealed weapons is unconstitutional. A three-judge appeals court panel gave Illinois until June 9 — about six months from its December decision — to pass legislation that would give citizens the right to carry guns in public with reasonable restrictions. Madigan lost a request for a review by all judges in the federal appeals court.

But Quinn said Madigan should take the issue further. The governor said the “only hope” Illinois has of keeping its ban on carrying concealed weapons intact is to go to the U.S. Supreme Court. “The attorney general ought to take a look at that, and pursue that, and make sure that this is the law of the land,” Quinn said.
"make sure that this is the law of the land?" Quinn's an idiot, but a dangerous one.

If Lisa doesn't take it to the Supreme Court, Quinn paints her as soft on guns. If she does and loses, she's incompetent. If she defers to the legislature (which appears to be what she's doing at the moment) she's a tool of Daddy (which she is).

Of course, all of this costs money that could be spent on something else, like pensions.

Hey, Quinn is the laughing stock of Illinois politics and one reason why Illinois is the laughing stock of the country. Why would Quinn stop wasting money now? That's all he knows. Dumb financial decisions and spend until the state dies.

IT'S "FOR THE CHILDREN!"

Little League in Illinois Set to Raffle Off $2,000 AR-15 Rifle Complete With 30 Round Clip for Fundraiser (Video)

Well, if a hog roast isn’t successful, this seems like the next logical step.

The Atwood-Hammond Little League in Illinois is having some hard time. Their equipment is dilapidated and needs to be replaced. Last year’s fundraiser, a hog roast, only netted $10, so this year the organization went to some outside-the-box thinking to raise some money.

After partnering with a local sporting goods store, the league is set to raffle off an AR-15 rifle, which is worth about $2,000, complete with a 30-round magazine, to boot.

The winner of the raffle will have to pass a standard background check before being awarded the gun.

According to one of the c0-owners of the sporting goods store, Charidy Butcher, the raffle has had an unprecedented response, with phone calls placed as early as 4:30 a.m. to get information. Likewise, Butcher would like the public to know that guns are, in fact, safe. “It’s a piece of metal, basically. They’re not gonna do the harm unless you’ve got the person holding them,” said Butcher.

Hmmm..."Chicago Democrat".

"...parts of the state and Illinois"?

And because of a few, small parts of the state are inhabited by animals, everyone should suffer and be unable to defend themselves?

Aren't the people in these "parts of the state and Illinois" already violating that law?

This man is an imbecile.

Illinois $500 mil. bond sale that was canc. resurfaces as an $800 mil. sale.

We still have plenty of money to throw away on legal fees to enhance some peoples personal agendas. Money to piss away on Parks and Bike paths too.

Those don't seem like actions a responsible person should take if they are having money troubles.. They are about to charge $800 mil more on the taxpayers credit cards and hand us all the bill.

UPDATE 2-Illinois faces investor scrutiny for $800 mln bond sale

Wed Mar 13, 2013 11:05pm IST

(Reuters) - Illinois will sell $800 million of debt next month in the U.S. municipal bond market, where investors will likely continue to demand hefty yields for the state's debt amid an unresolved public pension crisis.

The new deal surfaced on Tuesday, a day after Illinois settled federal civil securities fraud charges that it allegedly misled municipal bond investors about the underfunding of its pension system.

"The unfunded pension liability will continue to put budget pressure, rating pressure and yield pressure on the state until they come up with some sort of solution," Paul Brennan, a senior portfolio manager at Nuveen Investments, said on Wednesday.

The state released a preliminary official statement late on Tuesday setting competitive bidding for $450 million of tax-exempt and $350 million of taxable general obligation bonds on April 2.

The sale marks the first for Illinois since it postponed a $500 million bond deal just days after Standard & Poor's Ratings Services dropped its credit rating a notch on Jan. 25 to A-minus with a negative outlook, the lowest rating of all the states.

Illinois' pensions, the worst-funded among states, have been a crushing credit concern for the state, which is struggling to rein in burgeoning retirement costs that threaten funding for core services such as education, health care and public safety.

As a result, credit rating agencies have been hammering the state's ratings lower and bond investors have been demanding higher yields to take on the risk.

Interesting...

FEMA Exercise Puts Northfield Township First Responders to the Test

The Northfield Township Road District brought together first responders from the villages of Northbrook, Northfield and Glenview, along with the Cook County Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management, to participate jointly in a Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Virtual Tabletop Exercise.

The exercise was hosted by Allstate Insurance Company as part of its ongoing efforts to establish and strengthen collaborative public-private partnerships in disaster response and recovery.

***

The table top exercise focused on a weather disaster, the scenario being that a tornado struck portions of Northfield Township, Glenview, Northfield and Northbrook. Teams were charged with initiating their responses to injuries, power outages, damaged homes and businesses, blocked streets, and media inquiries, all while coordinating their efforts with other agencies and non-governmental bodies like the American Red Cross.

***
Cook County Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management Executive Director Michael Masters said, "Under the leadership of President Toni Preckwinkle, Cook County is working to ensure that we are prepared for all incidents, whether man-made or natural. Failing to prepare is preparing to fail. Events such as this – which bring together stakeholders from the public and private sectors, at all levels – place us in a better position to ensure that we do not fail. We commend this effort, and appreciate the opportunity to participate."

The exercise was just one step in an ongoing process for Northfield Township's jurisdictions to work collectively together to raise the area's level of preparedness and improve its capabilities to respond and recover from a local or regional catastrophic event.

Ahemm... Excuse me Mr. Quinn.

There is a law of the land, it is called the United States Constitution. You should try reading it sometime. It has a little thing in it known as the SECOND AMENDMENT.

Which has nothing to do with hunting and has to do with personal defense... and not just with defense against muggers and rapists.... (pay this video)

Sen. Manar: Don't believe the rhetoric; Illinois is adding people

[...]..You don’t have to take my word for it. Thankfully, we have an entity in America that exists solely to count people — the U.S. Census Bureau. When the Census Bureau released its official tally of Illinois’ population for 2010, our state had 12,830,632 residents. That is an increase of 411,000 from 2000. For perspective, that’s the equivalent of adding a city the size of Atlanta, Ga., to Illinois.

Really senator?

Why isn't Illinois workforce of Non Farm payroll jobs growing?

US Census Illinois Private non-farm employment, percent change, 2000-2010 -9.41%

So Illinois has a population increase of 3.3% over 2000-2010 and the number of people working and growing(ha-ha) the economy is down -9.41% in Illinois

Well it's either a mini baby boom and we'll have to wait 18~21 years for them to show up in the workforce OR 411,000 more people like retirees or others on food stamps and welfare moved here.

It get's better.

Where's the growth within the State?

Is Cook County growing?

Cook county's population dropped 182,006 from 2000 - 2010 for a loss of -3.4%

Nope! No growth there. Maybe Chicago is growing. Surely the financial powerhouse of the state is growing right?

Chicago's population went from 2,896,016 to 2,695,598 a lost of –200,418 or –6.9%

----------------------

So my friends to conclude the don't believe the rhetoric hype.

It's true that Illinois gained over 411,000 people about the size of the city of Atlanta Ga. from 2000-2010 so the senator is right.

It's also true that Chicago lost -200,428 people about half the size of Atlanta Ga.

The increase in population is not showing up in the private labor reports. Chicago had more people working 13~14 years ago then it does today IN SPITE OF ALL THE JOB GROWTH RHETORIC.

Chicago is loosing people. Cook County is loosing people. The road map that the mayor, city council, and cook county has us on is one that leads us to a city like Detroit.

Oh yeah, and for perspective the USA population growth rate overall was 9.7% -- 2000-2010. 3.3% Illinois growth rate is pitiful and the job performance is even worse.

Please repost a copy of the check the City had to write for unconstitutional gun litigation. The check photo makes an effective and sad visual of wasted taxdollars.

Sadly, these hard costs don't even begin to capture the wasted soft costs such as lobbyists, consultants, reports, salaries, etc., in drafting and implementing unconstitutional laws.

More of these wasted taxdollars in the form of hard costs are to come if illegal changes are made to modest middle class Pension Plans. The wasted soft costs pursuing clearly illegal Pension proposals are already off the charts.

All of which could have gone to helping properly fund the governments inadequate share of contributions.

Isn't the law in 49 of 50 states enough of a precedent?

Don't we all know already how stupid our elected leaders are?

How much more of our tax money do these idiots have to waste before we catch on and stop electing them?

By time they get done with a concealed carry law there will be one small area in far southern Illinois in the middle of a grove of trees where it will be legal to carry concealed. For one hour each day. On alternate Wednesdays depending on the number of your date of birth.

God forbid pensions get funded or police officers get hired or prison space be made available for true criminals.

No, better to fuck with law abiding citizens (known normally as victims) for an interminable period of time, lest they lose the vote of one loudmouth liberal gun hating scum.

This is what happens when you grow up as a liberal democrat and become cowardized.

Since the 1950 decennial U.S. Census, the City of Chicago has lost a MILLION residents.

At that time, Chicago was the 2nd largest city in the nation (now #3). It's less than a third the size of New York City and about the same population of just the Borough of Brooklyn.

Compare the disintegration of Detroit with Chicago. It's only a matter of time.

"make sure that this is the law of the land?" Quinn's an idiot, but a dangerous one.

While Quinn may very well be an idiot, his calling on Lil Lisa to appeal this case to SCOTUS may actually be a very smart move politically.

By fronting the issue, he forces his most likely rival for re-election into the position of having to do something on a total loser issue. No matter what she does on this issue, it is bad for her.

And if she appeals to SCOTUS and the decision is affirmed and becomes the law of the land, then New York's strangling gun laws are in jeopardy (Take that, Bloomberg!!) That is why the anti-gunners do not want this case appealed.

While Quinn just has to sit back wait for the Legislature to come up with a law.
