If all these ppos are going to be footposts on the south side. Are they actually assigned to the districts where they are sent or is it just a foot patrol unit until reassignment. Get these ppos in the districts so I can bid somewhere else....
The computers in this dept are deplorable. Soooooo slow, crashes, screen freezes, multiple breakdowns, etc. It takes 3-4 times as long to do a task because of the poorly maintained IT system.
Trying to get anything repaired is another sorry story. It's pathetic and the powers that be should be ashamed.

Work on the southside as a district intelligence officer. Went to 35th st today for "training" on the new initiative - "Top 20"
After blowing some smoke up our ass for 20 mins about some yale sociologist (?) they told us that we're basically to babysit/harass the people on the list in order to keep them from becoming future offenders or victims. the only thing they are going to become are future lawsuit filers. this is bullshit! we need to babysit these asholes, and document every contact to report at compstat. WTF?! Are we cops, or are we social workers?

Even though they opted to stay with Com Ed. I smell a Rahm Rat's nest and another Class Action suit which will make lawyers rich and cost the city money which should fund our pensions. Rahm and his evil cabal will still pocket their campaign/retirement contributions.
They have allowed the Department manpower to dwindle to such low numbers we cannot even begin to serve some communities. The neighborhoods that pay taxes get the least service.
Years of us ringing the bell have fallen on deaf ears. It took shootings, robberies and wildings on Michigan Avenue to get the Mayor to finally admit it was a huge mistake to have such a small police force.
Remember, it wasn't the lack of service to taxpaying neighborhoods that forced him to hire. It wasn't the increase in danger to members of un understaffed
Department that forced him to hire. It was the concern for his political future that forced him to hire.

I was assisting a citizen in the station and he was amazed to see a Dell Desktop with CRT monitor and when I said it ran on XP he wondered how it was still running.
I had another citizen, that I was giving an assist home, ask about having 122,000 miles on the odometer. He asked if I was driving a spare car because mine was in the shop. I said this was my regular unit and he asked where his tax money went.
Of course, traffic safety has a brand new Explorer whie I'm driving a POS on a regular basis. My district has no new, marked Explorers or Taurises while others are full of them.

O.T. - Who is the C.O. of the Marine Unit? I'm being told there is a female Lt. in 24 telling people she is getting it. Anyone know if this is true or does anyone know her?
No copy paper, no file folders, no staples, no paper clips, broken fax machines, broken copy machines, crappy phones, dragging pdt's and office pc - that's if it even works, broken down dangerous cars with no pools, no soap or hand towells in the washroom, flooded rusty water locker rooms, roach and mice infested stations, borken and overflowing toilets and urinals, no chase policy, broken judicial system, faulty fop union, incompetent leadership. Why would anybody want to be the police in Chicago?

No one cares about "back in your day" Ill try to find a copy of "Approving Reports for Dummies" in wax reel so you can listen to it on your wind up Victrola.

The PPOs are assigned/detailed to the office of the deputy chief of the respective district, unit 211 or 212.
Windows 95? That must be from a VIP's computer.

PPO's aren't officially assigned to a district until they are off probation. Any time before that 18 months they can be transferred or assigned without being subject to the contract. Thats how quiet districts like 001 or 018 which didnt have FTO's got some new guys and how the training districts transferred the ppo's to other districts after their cycles. They are not subject to the contract
The PPOs are assigned/detailed to the office of the deputy chief of the respective district, unit 211 or 212.

I used to drive a blue & white Chevy like that with the window rolled down because it had no air conditioning.
We had real leaders back then like Rochford, Reardon and others who were Chicago Police not these goofs from Jersey and the FBI. Their job is to tear down what we built up over the years.

Thank The Lord I saved all those typewriter ribbon cartridges. I knew these new dangled computers would be gone.
I could have gotten out my original box of PC-DOS 6. I have kept it all these years. The last good version of DOS before Windows 3.1 got big. I used Windows 3.1 for several years before I jumped into the world of hourly computer crashes with Windows 95.
Those days are long gone. I have been a true believer of Mac OS X for quite some time now. A mainframe of stability on my desk, and laptop and tablet and telephone.
No Windows, never again.
Why wouldn't Schloss get the Marine Unit? She's in officer in the Coast Guard. You're always crying about leveraging the military (OK, it's the CG...) experience of the CPD, so here's an opportunity. Better her than a clouted former Deputy.

Sensible...Im glad that adding thinks like a court key will keep me out of trouble. And why is it that you are willing to go through great lengths to keep me out of trouble on a report that will ultimately go nowhere, but when there is REAL trouble, silence breaks out. Lets be honest here, its about peoples opinions being relevant/useful, when sometimes they arent. And that door swings both ways, because you dont want to hear from a P/O that just may know something you dont.

Some units drive vehicles obtained through drug siezures. The City spends the money on a bucket of white paint and puts some used blue lights on them. Real class outfit.
