Semi Chase Leads to Scrap Yard

This sounds like fun:

• Chicago police discovered remnants of several stolen semi trailers while executing a search warrant today at an Englewood scrap yard, authorities said.
  
  Investigators from the auto theft unit found about half a dozen trailers in pieces while searching Englewood Used Auto Parts at 620 W. 59th St. The investigators also found a 30-foot boat that was reported stolen, authorities said.
  
  Investigators couldn't say whether the scrap yard knew the trailers or boat were stolen. Authorities said scrap metal can go for as much as $250 a ton.
  
  "People are stealing vehicles for the value of the scrap metal," said Eugene Roy, commander of the central investigations unit, which oversees the auto theft unit.
  
  Police learned of the scrap yard after arresting a man following a chase through the West Side early Thursday morning.
  
  Officers got a call around 3:50 a.m. Thursday that someone had hitched a truck cab to a trailer in the 4600 block of West Flournoy Street and driven away, police said. Police spotted the semi several blocks away, near Pulaski Road and Harrison Street, but it wouldn’t stop and officers followed it onto the eastbound Eisenhower Expressway and then onto Racine, police said.

So it sounds like the initial offender gave up the location that he and others were scrapping entire vehicles. The article mentions the recycling yard that shredded upwards of half a dozen buses and who knows how many other vehicles. Maybe Rahm should outlaw scrap yards?
