Undercover - Uncovered
- Thirty Chicago police officers will be part of a new undercover initiative targeting drug dealing by West Side gangs, city officials announced today.
Speaking at a graduation ceremony for police recruits, Mayor Rahm Emanuel said the initiative will employ a “buy-and-bust strategy,” and is an example of the “strategic policing” approach he has advocated.
Undercover officers will work to arrest drug dealers, then uniformed officers will flood the area to prevent other drug dealers and gangs from claiming the territory, the police department said in a statement.
As reported here a month or so ago, it's the Distressed Neighborhood Program all over again. Someone must be talking to Phil Cline again.
Next up, Rahm and Garry will post photos of the officers involved in the undercover operations just to make it "fair" to the criminals.

About 10 years ago in the area, I used to be required to submit a report to request a "buy-bust" mission in order to flush out any witness that could be coerced by a pending drug charge to clear a homicide or shooting. Do you know how many of those "missions" actually produced any fruit?
Yep, not a one. Maybe I was just unlucky, but we can not and Should not be bribing or intimidating witnesses to do what most "normal" people who see a crime do as a matter of principle and decency. If you do not want a criminal getting away with a crime and want to protect your family and neighbors, you come forward and tell investigators what you saw and get that scum away from your streets.
The police do not live in your neighborhood 24/7 and it us not their responsibility to hold your pride and morals for you until you need them. You need to teach your kids about them on a daily basis and force them to live with respect for all peoples.
Think of it this way. Imagine the liberal utopian world that you seem to want and currently vote for. Now aging what the people that live in that world look like and how they live and treat each other. Begin now to teach your kids to be those people instead of the Godless, uneducated savages they are in this age.

When was the last time that a WC paraded the PO's who work CD at roll call, for the watch personnel to view? A good practice to prevent "friendly fire" incidents. Why have we gotten away from that? Easy to do, really and might just save a life.

From the seller/buyer standpoint, no, it won't change anything. Getting arrested is the cost of doing business.
It might make it a little harder to make UC buys.
The biggest issue is that from an officer safety standpoint, it makes things more dangerous.

- a Cubs detail (different from the citywide detail unit that also works there)

sorry dude, but 6 years or 7 the dude is a solid cop. seen him make plenty of arrests that were much better than 1 baggers. as to the "tuff" guy persona, not really sure what you mean. lots of coppers with no nuts are a little threatened when a copper with a set steps up and does the job. not sure this means he has a "tuff" guy persona as much as it means you a slightly threatened by his abilities. i do know this; have been in 15 for about the same number of years as connote the district's designation and he was one of the better coppers i saw pass through it. the unfortunate fact is this, 015 currently is full of losers and jealous babies birches. the Tac teams, with few exceptions, bring in weed and sub arrests regularly despite the introduction of the ANOV for cannabis program. also, the watches are definitely not what they were about 10 years ago.015 kicked ass then. guys stuck together and brought in good cases. now the average watch or tact guy there is a facebooker who thinks his shit is pure cause he is box 5 on a cannabis 1 bagger. if you think all of the above is bullshit, i invite you to run the arrests through clear in 015 for the past 5 days . overwhelmingly the quality will demonstrate a real lack of commitment by the arresting officers. i guess jp threatened your 015 1 bagger gig. it is pretty much the norm there now.

- a Cubs detail (different from the citywide detail unit that also works there)
There are so many people working "special" cars that there are no rapids - ever - and most of the beat cars are 1 person.

His comment was a stretch. Hers is not far fetched. She grew up in South Shore and went to Bryn Mawr and Whitney Young. All she is saying is that Hadiyah was doing nothing to facilitate or increase the likelihood that she'd be a homicide victim and that unlike most of our frequent flyers...there are people in this city who become homicide victims though they did everything right in theory.

Don't forget the "special parking enforcement car" [overpaid meter maid] that does NOT do accident reports! WTF!!
Beat car response times are way up due to district being too large, overpopulated and with downed beat cars especially on weekends! Nobody wants to work weekends!
Maybe the department should get a public face book page and list all of our "statuses" ... Oh wait a lot of coppers are already doing that. Never mind

JP out of 015 is one of the better cops I've worked with. Everyone gets the one bagger here and there, but a majority of his pinches are pretty damn good. He also consistently flipped his arrestees for warrants at least every other week. The guy is not afraid to be the first through the door, and his critics are most likely the ones trailing him inside! 015 has gone to shit....but some good still comes out of it.
