$2.5 billion is about what? A third of the Chicago budget? That's that claim of a study by the University of Chicago Crime Lab:
- Shootings cost Chicago $2.5 billion a year, or about $2,500 per household, according to the University of Chicago Crime Lab. The impact can be measured in the decline of South Shore, a once-vibrant city neighborhood that was home to first lady Michelle Obama, civil rights leader Jesse Jackson Sr. and software pioneer Larry Ellison, co-founder and chief executive of Oracle Corp. In the past two years, shootings in the police district covering South Shore surpassed 400 and increased four times faster than in the city as a whole. The first four-and-a-half months of this year have shown improvement, with homicides down 39 percent citywide through May 12, though some community leaders question whether the decline can be sustained. During the first quarter, Chicago police spent almost two-thirds of the entire year’s $38 million overtime-pay budget targeting high-crime areas.

Tear down the Projects, and scattering its rejects throughout the city didn't help either.
Bloomberg is a bigger yellow rag sheet then Chicagos lousy papers. A whole bunch of lies exaggerations and poor reporting. Read the idiot article. One point says shootings are down fifty five percent from last year,then this rag reports everyone is leaving south shore because of the shooting.
This crap article along with 48 hours is some of the worst journalism I have ever seen. It is an open attack on the mayor and the elected officials when it should be blaming those spoiled cry babies from the Highlands,gangbanging thugs,lousy parenting and schools,lousy business es,and the CHA for dumping all of those section 8 refugees in South Shore. That article also spat in the face of the cops that work in those areas. 003/004 should do what those cops in Ohio did and pull out and let Englewood by the lake police itself.

I worked in 003 in the late 80s and it was a shithole back then. The Rev jackson had a 24 hour police guard on his house and a police and sheriff bodyguard detail. The police even drove his kids to school. Nothing new here.

The issue cannot be discussed or researched without addressing the issue of Race and Entitlement. The architecture or geography has not changed; The Inhabitants have changed. When that area was White it was Upper Middle Class, when it turned Black it was still Middle Class. However, when an element that believes in government entitlement moved in, and that happened to be 2nd and 3rd Generation Welfare Blacks; it got ugly and violent. Chicago has always been a segregated City by Race and Economics since World War I. The placement of Public Housing was always based on politics. Now that the Projects are gone the Entitled are spread out and everywhere they go, the area suffers. If you talk to suburban police chiefs, you will see how their troubles correspond to the demolition of our Public Housing. Daley exploited these people then let them loose when his Political Machine did not need them, and the biggest losers are the Middle Class Blacks who moved in after the White Flight. Politics created this mess.

Everything went to hell when they got rid of the manual Underwood typewriters. In a pinch you threw them at someone, or use it as a boat anchor. That and the Olivetti manual, once they left it was a sure sign of decline,. There was a typewriter repair shop on Montrose just west of Ashland. Last one I knew of. Once they closed it was official. We were fucked.

Hopefully youre not writing the report! As I saw from the news alone, the girl was out of control and he had to restrain her for her own safety and the safety of other "students." During the struggle, she pushed him to get free to continue her attack and this led 5th o her falling off the first step of the stairwell resulting in her fall.

That's exactly what's needed. A new law needs to be passed that calls for an investigation into the offenders welfare status. Any time some mutt gets arrested for shooting up a neighborhood or robbing or raping or participating in a wilding, the offender's household then loses all eligibility for LINK, SSI, Section 8, etc. Maybe taking away their tax payer funded lavish lifestyle will make these asshats realize that there are consequences to their actions.
