Well Boo Hoo
- A little girl is running late for school.
She scurries along South Perry in the navy blue skirt required for Kohn Elementary School students and brown boots, fixing the buttons on her red-and-white plaid coat as she makes her way.
The bell at Kohn, at 104th and State on Chicago’s Far South Side, rang a good 20 minutes ago, yet the child — no more than 8 or 9 — walks alone, hurrying past vacant lots, buildings graffitied with Black Disciple taunts and abandoned house after abandoned house. In the last blocks of Perry and 105th before reaching school property, she also passes the homes of two registered sex offenders — one a predator whose victim was under 18 — and the sites of three batteries and two robberies with dangerous weapons.
Come August, she may have to traverse more of it.
Well, the problem can be seen in the third paragraph:

Why wasn't the child awakened 20 minutes earlier? Why isn't the girl walking with a group of friends? And where, pray tell, is the parent?
It isn't our fault that the neighborhood is decrepit. We didn't make untenable loans to people who had no means of paying them off. We didn't bring a tolerance for criminal activity into the hood. And we certainly didn't bring children into this world with no means to support them. We have a hard enough time supporting our own, but we imagine Rahm's going to make us add a few dependents shortly. Can we at least claim them on our taxes?

It has to do with responsibility and accountability which obviously the child's parent(s) know nothing of. Now someone on the slum-times pointed out maybe the parents are at work at that time and can't walk them to school. The government pays public aid recipients to raise their children. They don't have a job to go to, they stay up all night because they don't have anywhere to be and nothing useful to do. Walk your kids to school. You're already paid to do so.

One of the 011th District schools...Marconi...is scheduled to close. Their enrollment is way down and their test scores are awful. Parents are pissed that their kids have to walk 3 extra blocks through drug territory (which covers ALL of the 11th district, but whatever). Last week I had to do a report because a momma called in that while her 5 year old, yes FIVE year old, was walking home alone from Marconi, a group of the neighborhood dope boys pushed him down and threw a stick at him. When I asked momma of the year why in God's name she wasn't walking her 5 year old to and from school, her response was, and I quote "I ain't got time for all that." I naturally assumed that her work schedule got in the way, but I was wrong. No job. Was she too busy feeding the homeless or volunteering at her local church? Nope, neither of those either. I'm guessing from the empty bottles surrounding her in her living room that she was involved in some kind of mass, earth friendly recycling project though. I can't see why she "ain't got time" for ensuring the safety of her baby.
I went to Kohn and none of that shit existed in the 60's. Kick ass penny candy store across the street on the south side of the school.

How exactly is this anyone's problem, and moreover, was there nothing of real importance to report other than some kids that have to walk through a shitty neighborhood to go to school??? How is that news?? I grew up here and had to walk to school without an escort every day because BOTH of my parents worked, and my neighborhood was no Norman Rockwell picture, and that never made front page news. Where's mom and dad? Why are they not responsible for this if it such an issue?? It amazes me that they are raising hell for some kids walking to school using phrases like "dangerous" "not safe" while at the same time it is perfectly acceptable for these kids to be out at 2am hanging on the block while gangbangers sell dope and shoot each other. There is never any accountability for these people when it comes to their kids- it's always someone else job. It's unreal.

Times have changed. I walked 8 blocks to school many times alone and came home for lunch. We took the bus or El downtown when we were 9 to explore. When my kids were growing up I kept an eye on them like a hawk and never let them do the things I was allowed to do. Now, my granddaughter is 10 and I keep an eye on her like a hawk. I watch her until she gets on the school bus and wait for her to get off at the end of the day. This mess with closing CPS, and the kids walking alone to school, I question " where are the parents?" The liberals did not have a problem with taking white kids and black kids and bussing them across town but now they are demanding neighborhood schools? Hyprocrits all. Bad parents all. It just isn't right. If the parent(s) has to work, can't another adult or other kids walk with a kid that might have to otherwise walk alone? I often wonder this on my way home.
School has a stop light on the main street, but 1/2 block down, on the same main street, you have to have the STUPID bolted to the street 'stop for pedestrians' signs. You can't walk 330 feet to cross with the light and the crossing guard. WTF???

Whatever slaves suffered in previous centuries, however hard black Americans worked in previous decades, and however many black Americans currently manage to make the effort to lead productive lives doesn't erase the fact that the black underclass in this country is a plague, and has been for 50 years now. Whatever slaves suffered in previous centuries, however hard black Americans worked in previous decades, and however many black Americans currently manage to make the effort to lead productive lives doesn't erase the fact that the black underclass in this country is a plague, and has been for 50 years now. If you somehow need evidence of this, go back to the original news story. Compare Roseland now to Roseland when it was filled with European immigrant factory workers.

Amen brother. I guess that dumb fuck never read a history book except one about black history. Italians were called WOP's (without papers), NINA stood for no Irish need apply and where do you think the derogatory term paddy wagon came from? That's right asshole, the "drunk Irishmen" who would get locked up for fighting. But there's one big difference between all the immigrant groups and blacks; the other immigrant groups have assimilated and, for the most part, every generation has done better than the one before it. The reason most blacks have never managed to advance as an ethnic group is because they sit around and feel sorry for themselves with their hand out because of something that happened to their ancestors over a hundred years
ago. Meanwhile every other ethnic group has managed to overcome adversity and prosper. Keep following fuck ups like Jessie Jackson and Al Sharpton and you'll be in the same place a hundred years from now. Take ownership of your problems and fix them.

Your ancestors left their country because they were treated like sh*t by the upper class. They knew by being in a caste system there would be no advancement in life. Tell me where were black Americans supposed to go? When blacks were leaving the south in droves local sheriffs would force them off of the trains and put them in jail. The south couldn't afford to lose all of that cheap labor en mass. Tell me which one of your Irish or Italian grandfathers was prohibited from enrolling in college after WW2 because of his Irish or Italian ancestry. That's why Vietnam was the first war America fought with an integrated military. This isn't ancient history. This goes to the guy informing us about 'WOP.' That means your family immigrated illegally.

The Jungle was a story of the times. Walk through the old stones and read the names, look at the death ages. Chicago exploited everyone. Your origin only mattered to you.
