Funded by grant money - none of that money has been spent yet, no boxes have been purchased.
Haven't been purchased? Let us guess - they're still doing field testing to determine a construct most likely to survive more than an hour on the south and west sides? Has to be gun-proof, fire-proof, bat-proof and able to repel biological warfare all without police intervention?

You don't have to be accountable for grant money do you? Grant money is not tax money it plays by no rules, right?
That's why the city gives corporations tax breaks -- so the corporations can pay whatever they feel like back to society via a donation and politicians can spend it on their friends however they like.
It's not a tax! Tax rules and accountability do not apply I don't think.

We have money for snitch boxes but no money for pdt's, cars, computers, etc... I still work a little for my amusement but the city has a surprise coming when the weather heats up. Those VRI cars won't be any good. So far 9.5 and macpuppet have been lucky to have wet weather. Just wait, animals are starting to to wake from their winter sleep and will be out creating chaos.

To the person wanting to know about the sgts class. Not trying to be a smart ass, but I wouldn't make any family plans based on guesses. Just get a refundable or open airline ticket for yourself and be prepared to come back early.

Well, the last I heard was that there will be a Sgt's class in the academy sometime in June.
Once finished, they will all be shipped to the south side to supplement the PPO's doing box foot patrol.

This is a blog, you knucklehead ! If you can't bear a little sarcasm,just call personnel and ask them about the Sgts. list. If you really follow this blog,you would understand there are a couple dudes who make a running joke of the next Sgts. class.If you need to find out about the next Sgts. list from SCC, the odds are, you're not on it !!!

Agreed. There are people that know more details regarding the next sgt class. Since the department refuses to treat us in a professional manner, could we please have someone competent to share the starting date. Honest and respectful responses will be appreciated.

What ever happened with those hand held warning flags that were supposed to be installed at intersections to safely help pedestrians cross busy streets? How much did that one cost?

Only 9 officers showed up for the FTO class. The department will not hire from the list anymore and they will have another FTO test in July. Congrats fellow classmates, off to the northside we go!!!

Getting the folks in these areas to use a snitch box, even if it is placed in the library or welfare office is just about as hard as getting them to recycle their trash. They dont give a shit about what the rest of society likes to do. They have their own values.
This is the CPD way. Grant money must be applied for and spent by certain dates. The bosses want lots of things - but don't have the time to actually sit down and plan beyond their whining. As a result, the grant dates approach and a "Just hurry up and apply so we don't lose the money" attitude ensues. Most grants have very specific requirements, so only certain things can be bought. As a result CPD scramble with the grant apps, writes something that will meet the requirement, gets the grant money, then can't decide what to ACTUALLY do with it or has no plan on how to spend it. Case in point: snitch boxes. Sounds good; here's the money. OK, so now where do we get them? Off what city contract can they be bought? Can we use an existing contract or must it go out for bid? what exactly IS a "snitch box"? What does it look like? Can we buy any old box, or must we research and find what other agencies use? Better ask R&D to research the top 25 police depts by size what they use. Get back to us immediately, but don't bother us - we have compstat to prepare for.

If you got 4 years on the job that means between your time and the PPO who's going to sit in the car with you a total of 42 months of street time ! And don't expect any of the sgts to help you ! Good luck on that off duty accident w/501 or domestic. It ain't always that green over a pile of shit.
The way it used to be:
I remember decades ago that a little old lady in her late 60's early 70's had witnessed a crime committed by 2?yo banger. She agreed to testify against him.
As the court date approached witness intimidation began. She was roughed up. Someone took a baseball bat to her car... she was afraid to go to sleep or step outside.
Then some really "strange" things happened:
The offender mysteriously ended up in the emergency room/hospital. A battery by an by an unknown person/s.
After the offenders visit to the hospital, all witness intimidation seemed to stop.
Then some sort of "fund" was setup (by district officers?) and her car was repaired.
Strange how street justice used to work...

I heard from a straight up officer who works at 35th street. he over heard to exempts talking in two stalls in the men's room about the next sgt class. Some day in the near future, there will be a very last minute announcement from Queen Ladner. You heard it here first. Lighten up Francis.
