6 Dead, 22 Maimed (Oops, 23)

That was with temperatures never once breaking 70 degrees.

And it rained.

So Chicago remains stuck at 35 homicides for May, four short of 2011 totals. And not one of the next 4 days has a high temperature listed below 84. The beaches, which opened 3 days ago, are scheduled to be closed starting tomorrow morning due to extreme heat.

There's hope for Chicago's homicide victims, they might not be as dead as they think they are...

NO NO NO SCC!

McTiedToABarStool is waiting for the Bozo-Puter and the Magic Arrows (... => <= ... => <= ...) to point the way to a double digit decrease in crime downtown (y'all just ignore the fact that the Red Line ain't runnin') to deflect from this week ends numbers fucking up the ballyhooed decrease of a couple weeks ago...

Remember... The smartest mayor ever and the best Police executive since Sir Robert Peel have a plan.

*Snicker!*

OT:
Thank you, Rahm and Garry.

Tonight, I was a victim TWICE, thanks to you two tactical geniuses. First, I was the victim of a theft. Then I was the victim of your helpful new 911 NO-response policy.

At midnight, I felt a huge thump on my front porch, grabbed the gun and ran downstairs. The three newly delivered boxes that had been on my porch were gone and wet footprints were in their place. I was on that porch minutes earlier and the boxes were there. At least two people had to climb my six foot fence, then wrestle the boxes off the porch and over the fence.

I called 911. It had just happened and the boxes were large and heavy, which meant at least two people were carrying them, close by, in the neighborhood, that very minute.

911 REFUSED police service. Two marked cars were within a block or two at the moment I called (I learned this later). If the call had just been given out, with a lookout for anyone carrying these large, awkward boxes, with noticeable identifiers on them, I would probably have my stuff back and the thieves would be in lockup.

No. It took a call directly to the desk, which took many extra minutes. By the time the car arrived, after being given some bad info, it was obviously way too late. Those boxes could have been walked anywhere by then. (Sincere thanks to the response car, though. I really appreciate you guys. It was a privilege working with you in my past life.)

The 911 calltaker went through some well-rehearsed spiel about the new policy the city of Chicago has implemented and told me she would be happy to connect me to 311 and they would give me a police report for my insurance company. She transferred me to 311 without even telling me

It had happened within one to two minutes before my call. The offenders were obviously nearby; no vehicle was involved. But the City refused to send a car to attempt to catch the offenders.

Someone leaves a bag of tomatoes on Rahm's doorstep and it's a 10-1 and a Federal case and it has to be resolved by the end of the tour. I have a real crime occur and within 120 SECONDS of it occurring, I'm told 'all you're entitled to is a report number'.

(Thanks, but I don't need a lecture on why the stuff was on the porch. A combination of circumstances required that the stuff be out there overnight for one night.) I'm just infuriated at this asinine 'policy' that exists solely to COVER UP the fact that this Department is too damned short-handed to respond to calls for police service.

Glad I retired. Can't stand seeing them run the department into the ground. And now I think it's high time I get around to finding a new state to live in.

Today's Breaking News, as provided by the CPD brass:
"Girl, 15, shot in West Pullman as Memorial Day violence dips from last year"
The coldest Memorial Day in history. God, are these guys assholes. They can't even see the forest through the trees.

Anonymous. your post about
the boxes may or may not be
a satire but the circumstances are so true,
so, so true. The department
is understaffed and the mayor and superindendent for
reasons known only to them and God refuses to hire and
qualify new patrolmen to
bring the department up to it's proper strength. So they devise gimmicks to determine what the officers
will and will not be sent to
deal with. But let the POTUS
or some muckety-muck come to
town and tee bosses will
empty an entire station-house to provide protection.
Their priorities are misplaced and they have have to serve and protect in
certain circumstances.
Not the officers on the street, but their supervisors and executives,
a.k.a. the Gold Braids.

From the Trib

While there were 6 people killed this weekend one of the deaths was ruled justifiable and not considered a homicide, police said. In that incident, Malcolm Dobbey, 27, was shot in the armpit in the 12100 block of South Indiana Avenue about 2:10 a.m. Sunday.

Dobbey, of the 600 block of East 92nd Street, was pronounced dead at Advocate Christ Medical Center an hour later, but it's not clear what happened prior to the shooting. Officials have ruled his death justifiable and no charges are expected, police said.

hmm, no idea what happened so it must be justifiable.

HOPE is on life-support pending either the passage of the court-mandated CCW law or Constitutional Carry, whichever comes first.

How disgusting. I am sorry for your loss. This city sucks that call takers don't know or care the difference in an "in progress" or a "just occured". Do yourselves a favor, keep the zone phone number handy for a real emergency just in case. Make sure your family knows where it is and when to use it! What district just so we know were to lookm for these late night porch thieves?

Your mistake wasn't leaving the boxes on the porch...your mistake was leaving yourself in Chitroit after you retired.

To Anonymous who had his packages stolen.

Relocate to Indiana. We are run by Republicans, have concealed carry, are a "Stand your Ground State" and with regard to delivered packages left on your doorstep, our motto is "If UPS deliverith, you stealith, you will dieth" (My silly pun at emulating urban slang, incorrect spelling and ebonics.)

Thanks. First time I've laughed today. Indianapolis is definitely on my list. More culture than you'd expect and some great, affordable housing stock.

Turns out the Airedale, um, airhead next door SAW the sleazes on the porch, with flashlights, peering in the house windows, just before the theft. She thought they must be house sitters (??? because house sitters always act like burglars, yes??), so she didn't call police.

I REALLY need to escape this insanity.
