First, Tio the wife-beater and recent Steinberg Award winner:
- Tio Hardiman, the director of the anti-violence group CeaseFire Illinois, “punched and kicked his wife” after the two had a verbal altercation in front a family member, Cook County prosecutors alleged Saturday.
As a result of the Friday incident, Alison Hardiman, 47, had a swollen lip, bruises and a cut on her neck, according to prosecutors.
“She was shocked,” said Ferdinand Serpe, Alison Hardiman’s attorney, after a Cook County judge ordered her husband held in lieu of a $20,000 bond on a misdemeanor charge of domestic battery.
- A 50-year-old man who had been on a tour at the city pound was charged with having sex with a pit bull, prosecutors said in court today.
Gerardo Perez, of the 2500 block of West 38th Street, was charged with having sexual conduct with an animal, a felony, and burglary, according to police.

Anyone see a problem with this? Aside from the the idiot screwing a pit bull we mean. Four times the bail amount for property damage as opposed to person damage. The judges are inconsistent and the courts themselves are screwed up beyond belief.

We all know Hardiman's wife isn't going to see this thing through; most DV victims here don't.
What we need to be doing here is the same thing they've been doing in Wisc. for years now. Empower the officers with cameras to document the evidence of a beating the night the arrest goes down.
State's Attorney's need to be committed, like prosecutors are in Wisc., to prosecute these cases WITHOUT THE VICTIM being present. Wisc. does this, and the prosecutor's office wins a large number of these cases. the convictions make a difference, but they won't occur here with most of the victims either cajoled or too intimidated to come to court.
Why we aren't doing it like they do it in Wisc. is anyone's guess. But if you can't win a child porn case against a celebrity when the evidence is sitting there on a tape, I guess the ASA's office knows they are full of incompetents with law degrees.

I agree with you that Tio's bail should be much higher. However, Tio's WIFE has her own attorney--and her safety and welfare are being looked after. No one represents animal victims--because, as you pointed out, they're considered property. Trust me, the pit bull experienced significant pain and injury as a result of that rape. Why not protect both species from assholes and not use instances like this to belittle animal protection and welfare?
Mrs Tio's lawyer says that Tio also had an "incident" like this with his first wife. Wonder what happened to the charges since CF says they don't tolerate employees beating on others yet he becomes the "Director"....hmmmmm

yesterday at about 3pm my vehicle broke down. I was pulled over at cermak And Clark with my family in the car. The car was unmovable. A female officer (beat 251) pulls up next to me and demands that I move my vehicle ( in a not so polite manner). I then identified myself as an off duty PO and began to explain to her that my vehicle was unmovable and roadside assistance was on the way. this officer then cut me off in the middle of my sentence and yells that somebody almost hot my car and speeds off. Now I didn't want this officer to go out of her for me in anyway but I did expect a little common courtesy especially with my family in the car. As I sat in shock I realizes to harsh realities the first being that the days of us as officers taken care of each other are sadly coming to an end. Secondly that it is officers like this that give the public such a negative opinion of our department. officers if your reading this post I hope you reevaluate the way you treat your fellow officers as well as the citizens you come in contact with. Also if it were you and your family broken down on the side of the road I would have done everything in my power to help you out. Especially if I was concerned about another vehicle striking yours.

I read another account that lists the dog as a Male Pit Bull. That means Mr Perez was very likely showering the dog's privates with sweet and tender kisses, no red blooded male taking those actions I am guessing.
When he gets out of jail, Mr Perez is going to protest the lack of a law protecting dog-man love. The man can't control who, or what, he falls in love with. At least the guy isn't a parish priest coaching sports.

i understand the city employee at the pound who saw this in now in therapy at Rush University dept of Psychiatry, it may be many months before he returns as for the dog he is now in "protective custody" getting therapy as well form the Dog Whisperer
all in custody persons are given the public defender if they want. I'm not saying its right, but they can.

Felonies have higher bails because they have stiffer penalties. People who have sex with animals are a danger to other people, particularly children. They should live in cages.

Hello. Why aren't the people demanding to know why this case wasn't up-graded to a felony based on his prior conviction. It certainly was supposed to be up-graded. I wonder who spoke up for Tio to keep it a misdemeanor.

With every bad incident I hope there are more good, copper helping copper out. For instance, I went to Cubs game last week. Took my 79 year old mother. I parked by the 19th district. I attempted to get a ride from a taxi for those 4 blocks because my mother has trouble walking. After several attempts at calling a cab the officer from 19 that was assisting with the parking lot came over by me and arranged a ride for me and my mother. I of course thanked the young officer. His response was "no problem, that's what we do for each other". I felt really proud to be part of the CPD family!

I know a copper who got a similar beef as a 'petaphile' (sic) and is still on the job today.
