Springfield Can't Pass Anything

  • The Illinois Senate tonight overwhelmingly defeated a major overhaul of the state's heavily indebted government worker pension systems, throwing into question whether cost-saving reforms will be approved before Friday night’s adjournment deadline.

The measure, whose architect is House Speaker Michael Madigan, mustered only 16 votes in the Senate while 42 voted against it. The bill needed 30 to pass.

The defeat continued the pension reform stalemate between Madigan and Senate President John Cullerton, who has long argued the speaker’s plan is unconstitutional while his own would withstand a legal challenge.
The legislative session is scheduled to end today. No word on whether lawmakers will be called back into session or extend their deadline via an unforeseen procedural vote. No word on other issues before the body either - like Concealed Carry.

Expect confusion to reign shortly.

Don't ya love how the media keeps proclaiming how this pension reform is going to: "save "X" billion dollars over 'T" years"

Saving is a good thing. Everyone likes to save, right? I mean it's so, so responsible to save. So altruistic the value of it all.

However what happened to honoring your commitment, your word? Don't you dare mention that or that what is being attempted is outright theft thru deception.

Yeah, look at the savings. ha... shhhh code of silence #NOTALKING. I mean really how different is it.

Don't worry I'm sure Mikey and Marky have things well in hand what with all the monitoring of important legislation they are doing down there in Springfield. Still waiting for an explanation of the thousands of FOP dollars they have given to Madigan, Quinn, and Cullerton You may remember them as the three stooges trying to gut our pensions and everyone else's. I'm sure everything will be fine ... just fine for Mikey and Marky that is.

No FOP updates mentioning this either. What's going on? Was it a homicide? If its true that this incident happened, it's weird it's not reported.

Goes to show you, with 40 plus years in house madigan still can't get anything right. No one will pass it because it is unconstitutional ! The state will have to pay what it owes! That has to hurt, you know holding up obligations, especially for the working.

I suggest all you coppers, teachers, firemen etc., take a look at SB1584 and see who sponsored it. I'll tell you this. It isn't good for the above group of people. It takes away their healthcare and puts them all on Obamacare in 2016. And it is sponsored by none other than John Mulroe. What part of the county/city/state does John Mulroe represent you ask? Well none other than places like Norwood Park, Edison Park, Forest Glen. Places in which most of the residents are city employees. So ask yourself if you remember voting for this guy, the same guy who was slated by the Democratic Machine to do it's bidding. The same guy that asks you for your vote and then stabs you in the back. The same guy that says he wants to make your life better and then tries to take away your healthcare!
Remeber that name boys and girls for the next election.

JOHN MULROE.

but The Illinois Observer says....

"A top source tells The Illinois Observer that lawmakers have an agreement that will preempt home rule only on firearms transportation and future conceal carry laws.

The legislators, State Senators Kwame Raoul (D-Chicago) and Tim Bivins (R-Dixon), State Reps. Mike Bost (R- Murphysboro), Ed Sullivan (R-Mundelein), Brandon Phelps (D-Harrisburg), Frank Mautino (D-Spring Valley) and Dennis Reboletti (R-Elmhurst) meeting House Speaker Michael Madigan’s conference room on Thursday afternoon, have also agreed that all existing assault weapons bans will remain in place.

However, the lawmakers, who excluded the governor’s Illinois State Police representatives from the negotiations, have agreed that any new assault weapon bans must be adopted by home rule communities within 10 days of the law taking effect. In reality, the new conceal carry law will ban any further assault weapons bans.

Additionally, the bill will abolish Chicago’s gun registry.

The source says the legislation, which is now being drafted, should hit the Illinois Senate floor on Thursday night.

Stay tuned."

Senate passes measure to move Chicago police, firefighters, other retirees to Obamacare

SPRINGFIELD - Would Chicago abandon its public safety retirees to nationalized health care? Quietly, this week, the Illinois legislature passed a measure that could force Chicago retirees off private health care an onto the public exchanges being set up.

SB 1584 passed the Illinois Senate Thursday after passing the Illinois House Wednesday, and is now on its way to the governor's desk. The Fraternal Order of Police opposed the measure. State Senator Chapin Rose tweeted afterward:

SB 1584 was quietly passed, it effectively allows the city to dump retirees into Obamacare, not sure if it affects the 55 and out people or not...

Oh, but you are wrong! Springfield managed to increase spending by 2 billion !!! Now, that is pretty good for a state 6 billion in unpaid bills. I wonder how many perks/pork were added. Don't forget that Sen Donne Trotter, the guy who voted against concealed carry who was arrested with a concealed handgun managed last year to get 75 grand in state funds to install an elevator in his private club. And, these types of pork are not uncommon.

SPRINGFIELD - Starting in January 2014, the City of Chicago plans on phasing out the 55 percent subsidy they pay for retiree health insurance for the city's 30,000 retired employees.

After that, the city's retirees will then be forced to pick a healthcare plan from the State’s Obamacare Exchange.

Legislation setting the city's planned relief into action is SB 1584, which passed Tuesday in the Illinois House. SB 1584, sponsored by Speaker Madigan's lieutenant State Rep Barbara Flynn Currie (D-Chicago), would put all Chicago Police, Fire, Municipal and Laborer retirees on the path to Obamacare public health coverage as of December 31, 2016, a Republican House staff analysis says.

Four Democrats and all Republican House members voted against SB 1584.

This city's pay-in provision of 55 percent is currently set to expire June 30, 2013, so while this is an extending retiree health care benefits, it allows the City of Chicago to end the practice at any time it decides to end offering retiree healthcare.

Since the 1989 "Korshak decree" court order, Chicago has been required to provide retiree health insurance. The court order expires July 1, 2013. AFSCME, Fraternal Order of Police and the Chicago Firefighters Local 2 oppose the city's plan to put retirees onto the federal health care plan.

The Fraternal Order of Police is preparing for a court battle over the Korshak order as its end nears. At its May 2013 meeting, the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 7 website says their Board of Directors' voted unanimously to hire attorney Clint Krislov to prepare an amicus brief in the Illinois Supreme Court and litigate a suit addressing the upcoming end of the Korshak Settlement Agreement, which expires on June 30, 2013.

"This is an issue of critical importance to our retirees and active members alike, as it will help determine the future of retiree healthcare for City of Chicago employees," the FOP says.

The House roll call on SB 1548 is as follows, and the amended bill will now return to the Senate for consensus.

We need politician reform not pension reform. The devil here are the Democrates. Dirty Little Richie started it in 1989 by trying to and suceeding partially in cheating police retirees out of their medical. Remember? any current or retired public employee who votes for ANY Democrate should be hung! We need a new active organization . How about " Ex-Democrate public employee association of Illinois"

Any active Policeman or Fireman should do as little as possible to get the check. Why endanger yourself and ruin your health for a good like Emmanuel if he is going to throw your health insurance away?. I'm retired now and am worried about being able to afford health care, especially after having 2 heart attacks. What insurance company will want to insure me? If this is what I worked 40 years for, all I can say to you young guys is...Milk the job for all it's worth and save money!

So, what happens now? What about spouses and children once the retiree reaches 65, but the spouse isnt?? And the children, who should be covered until age 25??.
And why do we have to be REMOVED from city healthcare........?? Cant we just pony up the additional amounts ourselves if the city refuses to subsidize?? Will the pension plan still continue their subsidy??? Lotta crap after devoting 30 years to the city..........nights, midnights, holidays..........
