Over a Video Game?

  • Six-month-old Jonylah Watkins was fatally shot over a stolen video game console, Chicago police said Monday as they announced an arrest in a slaying that has come to symbolize the city's deadly gun culture.

Authorities charged Koman Willis, 33, with killing the infant and shooting her father while they sat parked in a minivan in the Woodlawn neighborhood on March 11. A bullet entered Jonylah's right shoulder and traveled down through her left thigh. She died the following day. Her father, Jonathan Watkins, survived multiple gunshot wounds.

Jonathan Watkins, 29, had been Willis' target "in retaliation for a stolen video game system," police Superintendent Garry McCarthy said. The animosity began after a game system was taken from Willis' Chatham apartment and sold to someone else in the neighborhood, according to law enforcement sources.

When the new owner hooked up the system at home, he saw it belonged to Willis, a fairly well-known figure in the neighborhood and a convicted felon with more than three dozen arrests dating to 1996. Not wanting any trouble, the new owner returned the game console to Willis and told him that he purchased it from Watkins, one of the sources said.
Amazing. The neighborhood will snitch over a video game console so that someone can go home, get an illegal weapon, let him go hunting, blast a burglar, kill a 6-month-old child and then the neighborhood has to be persuaded over the course of months to point the finger at the shooter.

It was probably the violent video games that made him want to pick up a gun in the first place.

Idea...

Someone turns this whole incident into a video game in and of itself. "Southside Savages" or "Video Game Vigilantes" comes to mind.

Objectify the "tragedy" and make some tall cash off it.

Police to play the villains, of course.

Guarantee it'd give Grand Theft Auto a run for its money and then some.

There's always more to the story than what is reported in the media. Anyone who has ever worked on a case and then saw what the media said, knows this to be true.

I wonder what the real story behind it all was. I am sure the video game angle was a small part of it, but there is definitely more to this story than what they tell us.

The Rev. Corey Brooks, a family spokesman, said they spent Monday morning at their daughter's grave and had prayed for her killer's arrest since March. Jonathan Watkins — who is not expected to be charged with burglary in the case — will make a public statement Tuesday, Brooks said.

I cannot wait to hear the pearls of wisdom from Watkins. I heard he now plans to become a life coach. Oprah? Steve Harvey? Anybody? Are you listening? Grab him fast.

There is always more to the story, but this version fits the politicians anti-gun agenda so this is the version they will put forward.

"If those darn guns weren't so easy to get a hold of that poor child would be alive". How about: "If we made this generation accountable for their actions this child would be alive"? Give this animal the chair quickly. Send a message. Yeah, I know. Never going to happen.

Liberals thought all our problems would be solved if we just tore down the projects. Gave 'em all Section 8 vouchers. So they can assimilate into society, they said.

The neighbor that bought the video game system snitched because he knew what fate awaited him if the true owner of the system ever found out he had it. And the owner that had it taken in the burglary would not have sought out ceasefire to mediate, but would have eradicated the purchaser. So we should have a burglary charge. Recieving stolen goods is a good charge too. One might argue some culpability in the murder because the purchaser of the stolen goods would have a hard time arguing that he didn't think the killer would do anything violent to the burglar even after getting his property back. The street revs would do well to use this case as a basis of their next sermon.
#1 Thou shalt not steal.
#2 Retribution is Mine, sayeth the Lord.
#3 Acting responsibly in our society might have saved the life of an innocent 6 month old. Everybody that knew anything and kept it to themselves owns a piece of this baby's slaughter. The new slogan for the T-shirts should read "I kept quiet, and Jonylah dies because of it." They can wear it proudly!

Evidently the guy in question is a true beast and savage. If you would have given up his name, chances are, he would find out and take care of you the first chance he got. For the police on the board, what safety is given a person in a situation like this. And I am asking this because not everyone can afford to move in Chicago to a better area. I did because the cops refused to arrest kids due to their age. Not blaming the cops, but its a pain in the ass to keep filling out insurance paperwork when your home gets burglarized over and over.

and the fact that this results in de facto criminals producing, distributing, selling, and possessing it?

and the fact that, by being a criminalized substance, in popular demand, it's value is attractively increased?

SABO, ROBERT, NEW YORK DAILY NEWS

Former NYPD Commissioner Bernard Kerik has served more than three years behind bars for tax fraud and lying to federal officials.

Bernie's back.

Disgraced former NYPD Commissioner Bernard Kerik is reportedly being released from federal prison in Maryland Tuesday.

The discredited top cop — nominated in 2004 by former President George W. Bush to be Homeland Security secretary — has served more than three years behind bars after pleading guilty to felonies that included tax fraud and lying to White House officials.

Initially slated for release in October, Kerik will head home to Franklin Lakes, N.J., after leaving the Federal Correctional Institution in Cumberland, Md., WNBC reported Monday night.

The 57-year-old will hitch a ride with friends and is expected to arrive home Tuesday afternoon, the report said. He is planning to celebrate over a meal with 20 guests. Kerik has requested food from Brownstone catering in Paterson, N.J., WNBC reported.

OT Listened to WBBM radio this evening which was on scene of a protest outside of U of C hospital. Protesters were demanding a trauma center in the area because the ambulance ride was too long for gunshot victims to get to Stroger or Christ from their "trauma desert." Unreal. Someone is crazy here and I don't think it's me. Demanding a multi million dollar facility which we as taxpayers should provide because the fine citizens of the area cannot refrain from shooting each other over stupid stuff. Stop trying to kill and maim each other. And then who do these protesters think is going to subsidize treatment if such a fine establishment is built? The victims?!?!!!! Give me a break. Who among them actually has a job and insurance? Get out of my pocket. Get a clue. Get a job and get a life.

I like the guy who is against raising the limits required on auto liability insurance unless we (taxpayers) provide a means of paying for the auto insurance for the po' folks who cannot afford it. What an insane argument. Democrat trolling for votes. Give them a license, give them a cell phone and give them money to pay for insurance that they are required to have.

We might as well just self insure the state and if they get in a crash without insurance, the state covers the damages. We better pay their deductible too. Can't expect them to pay that.

The dad and his boys stole money, dope ,or guns out of the offenders's house. If you think this is only over a video game you're clueless.

I've read your comments. You don't write in english. I'm guessing you're telling us that you speak it and understand it though?

Originally ol' boy said he stopped to change the baby's diaper on the front seat and she was shot.
When ballistics and police on scene revealed that it didn't match up and he was using baby as a shield, he changed his story.
WGN repeatidly played his interview when he said he picked up the baby who was crying when she heard the shots, pulled her to his chest and looked her into eyes when she was shot.
Then ol' boy blamed the po-lice stating, that he told the police three times she was shot and "they wouldn't get up off of me."
NOW it's the po-liceees fault, dontchaknow.

Best 2 lines that I have seen regarding this is.

"The baby started crying as she heard the shoots"

I think if she was crying it was because daddy was pulling her out of her seat real fast to use as a sheild

"the dad gave up gang life 10 years ago"

Anyone that believes this call me because I have some very good waterfront property in Fla for sale.

If the story is true then the baby daddy is part to blame for his daughters death. Why is baby daddy getting off? Sounds like his willingness to talk had more to do with a plea deal than his pastor talking to him about breaking the code. He broke the code to save his own ass, plain & simple. Bottom line the code only goes do far. POS.

Tell you one reason they are protesting. Obama and the dems complain about the treatment, demand other hospitals provide the services and end up losing money, BUT U of C where Michelle was carried in a job paying around $300,000( which by the way was eliminated when she went to Washington) doesnt have to. Classic do as I say, not as I do.
