Seriously?

  • A 15-year-old girl was injured in a far South Side shooting this afternoon during a Memorial Day weekend that saw a reduction in violence compared to last year's numbers, police said.
Um....really?  Did no one at the Tribune do a simple Google search for "Chicago temperature Memorial Day 2012"? The top result is from CBS 2:
  • Chicago saw its second consecutive day of record heat on Monday, when the temperature reached 95 degrees at O’Hare International Airport early Monday afternoon.

The official temperature at O’Hare reached 95 degrees shortly before 1 p.m. Monday, two degrees higher than the record high temperature for May 28, set in 1953, according to the National Weather Service.

Chicago also broke a record on Sunday, when the high reached 97 degrees, three degrees hotter than the previous record for May 27, set in 1911.
So a 30 degree temperature difference between this year and last. But it had nothing to do with crime. Right.

RE: Concealed carry

OT: SB 2193 is a good bill in that it over-rides "Home Rule" and is a "Shall Issue" bill. Both of these aspects are HUGE. Although it doesn't allow concealed carry on public transportation, we can always work on amending that later. We're not going to get a perfect bill, so let's shoot for the best one we CAN get, and work on amending it later.

This doesn't sound good...

I want to update you on the status of the concealed carry debate here in the General Assembly. As you probably know, last week the House of Representatives passed SB 2193. This bill has been under consideration along with HB 183. Earlier today the Senate Executive Committee met and voted on both of these bills, but voted 'NO' on SB 2193 and 'YES' on HB 183. I am not a member of this committee and did not have a vote on either of these proposals.

For now, it appears that SB 2193 is off the table and HB 183 is the only remaining proposed concealed carry legislation left to be considered. There may always be more bills introduced or amended, but for now this is the current status of the debate here in Springfield. As I have said before, I am looking for a bill that does not carve out Cook County. We must find a solution now since we only have until June 9th.

I don't think the media realizes the correlation....they never factor in heat. Mcnutjob and the brass know the correlation but would never admit it.

Wow, so a series of random events that result in a lower number than last year is now news? When another weekend has a larger number than last year will that make the news?

They will awake from the winter sleep and create chaos in the streets soon. Keep'em loaded people, they travel in herds. Imagine if you dare... Herds in west half of 008, 016 and west half of 022... Scary isn't it?

The numbers will begin to even out soon. We have a string of hot, steamy, sticky days on tap for the next week or so.

Weather is never a factor, unless it is, then it could be if the stats break the right way. At least Rahm didn't have to shut down the beaches due to excessive violence, er.. heat this year.

95 will certainly reduce my activity levels, and we don't even factor in the brutal humidity.
But, they must manipulate the data to support their agenda...that, or they aren't smart enough to make the correlation.
By the way, enjoy your blog.

I love the indecisiveness of the Illinois Senate. Shall you carry here, but not there? Or carry here, but not there?

Why does Illinois have to be so crazy when it comes to concealed carry?

Maybe they should make a law that says NO politician shall have an armed security detachment. Then, we would see how comprehensive a concealed carry law would be covering all sorts of things with the over-riding fact that you would be able to carry anywhere, anytime, and with just about anything as your weapon.

Kill two birds with one stone. Ban politicians from wasting taxpayer money for armed valets and set a real concealed carry law on the books.

Next case.

Exceptionally detailed description there.
Should we assume it was those damned 4'09", lime green, female kangaroos again?

Gotta love this Trib headline:"3 killed, 6 wounded in various shootings on South Side"

"Various Shootings?" Haaa! That's classic. It's too the point that they just group them all together as various. You know, a little of these shootings, a little of those.

well both bills failed
the problem with sb2193 was
1. the waiver of your 4th amendment rights.
at NO time do you negotiate away rights to enjoy a right.
2. the lack of ccw on public transportation. not everyone owns a car you know.
3 last and not least.
at NO time are your right subject to the whims of others (unless duly issue by a court of law)
and in now way in hell would let the likes of a drunken streetlightslayer and a county sheriff that can't find his way out of a well -lit room decide if i can conceal carry or not.
sb 183 , well just look who wrote it kwame raoul,.. need i say more? after that bill got done you were lucky if you could carry on your front porch. it's 10 days away people if a law isn't written it looks like constitutional carry.
good luck and enjoy
