When in Doubt...
- Unable to round up enough Senate votes for a sweeping measure to overhaul the state’s public employee pension system, Gov. Pat Quinn has backed off in favor of a plan to a form a committee designed to forge a compromise on the hot-button issue.
The move sets the stage for what’s shaping up as an anti-climactic special session on Wednesday, which Quinn called in an attempt to break the gridlock between leading Democrats who have differing philosophies on how to overhaul the heavily indebted retirement system.
It’s a change in plan from the one Quinn put forth late last week when he asked Senate President John Cullerton, D-Chicago, to call a vote on a pension reform bill that already passed the House. Cullerton reluctantly agreed, but argued support would be far below the 36 votes needed to send the bill to Quinn’s desk.
Expect nothing and you won't be disappointed. This can is getting kicked down the road again as the election season will be in full swing shortly. This is what passes for leadership around here.

And this committee will do what? What they been doing all along? NOTHING?
The PotatoHead is worthless as a governor and so are the rest
Once they legalize these pension thefts Rahm can call for a NEW SOCCER STADIUM "for the children!!
...or something.
If I don't pay my obligations to the state you better believe the only solution is to pay up plus interest and penalties. Not sure why they can't play by the same rule book. Oh yeah this is Illinois.
Lets form a committee. Famous last words, a committee to try to illegally go around the Constitution! Pay up stop your crying you politicians only reason we are in this mess is because of you!
Committees. More useless crap.
SCC have your Attorneys look into the second set of books the State keeps..Use the term CAFR for God's sake ,their is a vast amount of cash therein. This is NOT the budget they always tout figures from..Get hardnosed dammit.Union my ass!!

Ha, Mike Flannery was on the news this morning talking about this stuff. His best line of the interview was he spoke about a press conference where he asked that Shit bag Madigan who has been in his position for decades about term limits for representatives. With that question, he said Madigan advised, "This news conference is over." God forbid you talk about taking away Big Mike's gravy train.
How bout we form a Federal task Force to investigate all these stealing scumbags instead of their useless do nothing committee.
they are complete asshole's who do not belong in government.
Merge all state backed pensions into one fund. Don't let Judges and elected officials have special seperate funds. The problem is all these different pots. When they are comingled there is unity. Max any and all pensions at 75,000.00 a year. That's the deal.
America
Stop stealing from our pension funds. Stop borrowing from our pension funds and not paying it back. Stop mismanaging the funds. Stop making poor investments from our funds. Stop ignoring the problem that you knew existed for 15 years which continues to get worse and worse in a domino effect. Hire the thousands of police officer we're short so they can start putting in the fund instead of the current rate of retirement that's going on right now where there are more takers than contributors. If it takes me to put 12% in from the already 9%, then so be it but the state has to promise to do their part. Raising the retirement age 3-5 more years is insane. I've been working since I was 14 years old and I'm 49 now. I think I've done enough. Getting rid of COLA for 10 years is crazy too. With the way the economy and inflations is, we need COLA bigtime.
I don't understand how none of this "pension reform"
involves any skin in the game from the responsibile party for this mess: the politicians.
All they want to do is impose massive give backs on the shoulders of the poor government workers whose pensions are meager to begin with.
I'll think about backing pension reform when the thieving politicians put some of their skin in the game while making "tough choices".
The state has already made a promise and broken it. Contribute a higher percentage if the state re doubles its promise. ....I don't think so.

SCC has attorneys?
As far as the pension mess goes, leadership would be for the governor to step up and admit that the pension plans are in trouble because of the politicians and not the workers and retirees. Therefore, the state will double down and replenish the funds that were used for other purposes over the years until all the money is replaced. That is leadership. Not gonna happen in this corrupt state.
For those of you blaming "The Politicians" for the pension scam, as if they were some alien species forced on us, remember that YOUR union leaders supported them.
YOUR union leaders also said nothing when the pensions were being looted and underfunded. YOUR union leaders also took part in the looting by paying lawmakers to build in a little loophole allowing the leaders to collect pension payments from the state while working for the union (without making any payments into the system of course).
The chickens have come home to roost. Should have been careful about the union leaders you voted for.
Secretary to President Calvin Coolidge, "Mr. President, Lindberg just flew across the Atlantic Ocean all by himself!
Coolidge, "That's nothing. I'd like to see him do it with a committee."
Credit Will Rogers with that joke, and no I am not that old.
