Highest in the Nation

  • The average U.S. price of a gallon of gasoline has jumped eight cents over the past two weeks and Chicago is home to the highest average at $4.10 a gallon, 43 cents higher than the nation’s average.
Even in Los Angeles, California, a worse economic basket base than Illinois, the average price was around .06 cents lower than Chicago.

We also find ourselves amused by the recent press events held by Emanuel touting how more and more bikes are being used around Chicago reducing congestion. No mention of how higher gas prices might be driving a minor bump in Public Transit usage and certainly no mention about how lower automobile usage is having the unintended side effect of less parking revenue and even less collection of gas taxes, which means less money for road projects and the like.

Was In DuPage County tonight near Naperville. Gas was $3.76 without any car wash or special codes and all that. It's $4.11 at the nearest City pump on the NW side. Should be criminal. Probably is!

High gas prices and all of this Green nonsense are to get you ready to ride bikes, while the Chinese people move up to Buicks.

Wake up.

Register bikes, License bike riders after they have passed a rules of the road test. Mandatory insurance on bicycles. Ticket wrong way riding bicyclists. Ticket red-light running bicyclists. Ticket bicyclists that weave in and out of traffic. Confiscate the offenders bicycles. There's some revenue.

Why??? No one can explain why Shitcago continually leads the nation in gas prices. CA has higher gas taxes and still has lower prices. The most corrupt city in the nation, 10% unemployment, massive debt due to political incompetence/gross neglect, 500+ murders/yr, some of the highest taxes in the nation, shitty weather more than half the year, and one of the worst areas in the nation to start/operate a businesses so I have to ask- other than being close to family (assuming they live here)- why the fuck would anyone make a conscious choice to live in this cesspool???

The real kicker is that Illinois double taxes motor fuels: there is a tax on each gallon, plus the sales tax.

Illinois pols love high gasoline prices!

I haven't bought a gallon of gasoline in Chicago or Illinois in over ten years for specifically that reason.

I mounted a 100 gallon tank from a diesel truck in the bed of my pickup. When I fill the 24 gallon tank on it I also fill the 100 gallon tank.

It lasts me 1-2 months for our two vehicles thus allowing me to never pa a penny to Chicago, Crook Cty or Illinois in gas tax.

Rahm and Madigan can kiss my ass

I just paid $3.45 in Whiting Indiana.

You can blame home rule for most of the increase in local gas prices. Cook County, Chicago impose high taxes on gasoline, but also every suburb has learned to impose their own taxes on each gallon. Then, add on the cost of the Illinois only " summer blend" imposed by liberal environmentalists. This law prevents transferring gas across state lines where their might be a surplus in an adjoining state. As mush as I don't care for the president, I don't think you can blame him for this one. I often wonder how many of our elected officials have financial interests in the Illinois refineries or receive hefty campaign funds from the owners of the refineries.

VA has seen their gas tax revenue drop due to the increased use of electric cars and hybrids, so now they have increased the "fees" on people using those vehicles. Incredible!! The govt wants people to cut back on energy usage and once they do, they find another way to charge them so they don't have to cut the bloated government programs.

Don't we also pay the highest electric rates in the country also?

That's with Commonwealth Edison.

Which I stayed with when Rahm tried to force Integrys that alternate electric company down everyone's throat earlier this year.

Integrys fuels its power plants on natural gas and ComEd uses coal and nuclear which the Democrats hate.

About a month ago there was a small news story about how heating bills will rise this winter because of the rising cost of natural gas. So I am sure we will still pay the highest electric rates in the country.

Curious how the Democrats do these things.

The gas prices are high because of our stupid summer blend, which the oil companies love to have "shortages" of whenever they need some short term profits.

Use bikes to get around Chicago?

What about 'bikejackings' and muggings. Seems like it's much easier to mug someone on a bicycle than in a locked car.

Better get those CCWs a-coming cause I can see a train wreck in the future (and not just Obamacare.)

I really miss this guy and his smile, He knew that the people of Chicago came first. he did not play the Daley and Rahm game with our tax money.
He had a heart of Gold and is missed by so many of us working class. Race was not a factor with Harold. May his soul RIP.
