OT Costs

All this money spent, just to keep the crime rate at 2011 levels:
  • The Chicago Police Department shelled out $21.3 million for overtime in April and May, putting overtime spending for 2013 in a $10.5 million hole before the traditional summer crime wave.

The July 4 Chicago Sun-Times tally totaled 38 separate shooting incidents from Wednesday evening through Sunday afternoon, including 10 homicides.

Figures provided to the newspaper Friday in response to a Freedom of Information request are particularly troubling because overtime payments run 30 days behind.

That means the police department spent $42.5 million on overtime through May long before temperatures started to rise, driving people outside and increasing the number of conflicts and shootings.
There's that mention of weather again, after they spent the last year parroting the McPartlyCloudy line about weather having nothing to do with rising/falling crime numbers. We certainly wish they'd make up their minds - but that might require them to actually think for a living instead of just repeating something they are told without question like good little automatons and tools of the democratic party.

Just a reminder that that $10.5 million dollar financial pot hole (and growing) will have to be filled via the sale of city bonds as we are not creating ANY meaningful jobs.

So what do you suppose the interest rate will be that the city will have to offer in order to sell those bonds?

If it's 5% tack on another half million and then figure the wasting asset value depending on how long the bond term is for.

The great "World-Class" city as Rahm likes to call it is in financial collapse.

The downstate lawmakers being ordered to steal the workers pension money while calling it reform and necessary is to ensure that the political elite maintain their positions on the Maslow pyramid for as long as possible -- at our expense.

Transfer the wealth out of our retirement pensions and into the overtime budget. Wow, we're getting ahead now eh?

VRI and overtime have been a massive waste of taxpayer money. There has been no reduction in the level of violence. We are short thousands of officers. We have had to pull more squads from taxpaying areas to police the ghetto. I would advise anyone who pays taxes to contact their aldermen.

traditional? is this like a rite of passage for young aspiring gangbangers and rap stars? do you do a ritual like a Bar Mitzvah? or a Quinceañera? this is news to me

Not to belabor the point, especially since Rahm Emanuel (Mayor Murder) stated many times that the Chicago Police Department is fully staffed, but $21.3 million bucks would pay salary and benefits for 2,130 new police officers for one year.

    What a coincidence!

Chicago has so many time honored traditions. Using VRI to eliminate the need to hire peeps who pay into the CPD pension is the bestest one of all. Bravo to Rahmmie and all who take his blood money.

I have a prediction for the Mayor's next spin:

We are not that much in the hole because we saved that by not hiring police officers that we don't need in the winter time.
Of course that is complete nonsense, but that won't stop him from some variation.

We have no computers. We have no cars. We have no manpower. We have no FTOs. We have no supervisors. Hell, we don't even have office supplies.

The management team running this town is a failure.

I read this early today and I couldn't believe it was the Sun-Times (so I double-checked) slamming McJersey.. really.. what's up that? You'd have to think they did a random act of journalism and found McDrunk's been lying all along -- or something worse -- lying to the Sun-Times (can't have that, nope).

Or much more likely. Tiny Dancer has had enough of McCompStat and the hair brained ideas he comes up while in the stupor of his Monday morning hang-overs. So 9.5 dropped a dime on McStreetlights to the Sun-Times and put the long knives out for him with all the Chi MSM (article in the Tribune probably to follow, lol).

Not that Garry shouldn't have expected this. After all there was that 'having the mayor's confidence' kiss-of-death thing. It's all over but the crying, pleading, begging, kicking and shouting after those.

(Stay SAFE out there Officers. You 'guys' are tops in my book)

Sgt.s signing up for vri and cancelling at the last minute, don't sign up for every date if you are not sure you can work, sgt.s are getting 2 or 3 times the work and you take away from less sr. sgts that want these dates.

Or maybe more airport contracts for him??

Sgt.s don't sign up for days you are not planning on working. Sometimes 6 or 7 a day. Other sgt.s would be willing to work instead of wasting these days.

Speaking of huge amounts of OT coppers assigned to the airports are allowed to work numerous RDO's a month.... all at time and a half. They also are given cart Blanche to work as much of their furlo's as they want.
Is that why there's no special employment at the airports any longer? It's only being offered to a very small group.

McFoggy is incompetent, and is wasting tons of Middle-Class Taxpayer Dollars with his buffoonish crime fighting plans, resulting in much more overtime, which isn't even putting a small dent in overall crime. Once again, the Taxpayers of Chicago pay the most, and get the least.
