"Knock Knock." "Who's There?"

  • Former Mayor Richard Daley was subpoenaed Friday by attorneys for a longtime inmate who alleges he was wrongfully convicted and wants Daley questioned about what he knew about allegations of police torture while serving as Cook County state's attorney in the 1980s.

Attorneys for Stanley Wrice, who was convicted of a 1982 gang rape of a woman in his attic, allege that he falsely confessed after being tortured by two detectives working under disgraced former Chicago police Cmdr. Jon Burge.

Cook County Judge Evelyn Clay ruled in January that Wrice had made a "substantial showing" that his constitutional rights were violated and ordered an evidentiary hearing scheduled for Sept. 23.

His attorneys want Daley and Illinois Appellate Justice Bertina Lampkin, a former Cook County prosecutor who handled Wrice's case, to testify under oath about their knowledge of allegations of police torture by Burge and his "midnight crew" at a South Side police station.
Gee, a former Daley assistant, now an Illinois Appellate judge. The connections are never more obvious than when a scandal rears its head. It sure would be entertaining if she panicked and started naming names of the clouted. Or Daley returned from his exile and stuttered his way into federal prison.

As for the Burge bugaboo, hasn't this BS run its course yet?

Nobody is asking if Wrice is guilty, did he rape the woman in his attic. All everyone cares is if the Dicks put some pain on him. What about the victim, if he did the crime who cares how they got him to confess. He is guilty let him rot in prison where he belongs. Stop this bs before the entire system makes a few of the greedy lawyers very rich and puts the rest of the taxpayers in banruptcy court. The sob is guilty plain and simple.

Wouldn't it be nice if they got that stuttering prick on something?!! Remember, they didn't get Capone on any of his gangster activities. They got him on tax evasion. We can only hope.

Remember, Miss Bertina Lampkin was once married to the "cowboy" a PO with a particular affection for western wear who worked in the 003rd District. The marriage didn't last very long.

Not sticking up for Daley but Clay has to be one of the least intelligent judges at 26 & Cal.

I don't care whether Lampkin is "connected" to Daley or not - she is one of the few Justices left on the Appellate Court who consistently makes sure criminals stay behind bars - and she was also consistently pro-police/pro-state as a Judge at 26th Street. Anyone ripping on her should think twice.

And Judge Clay is a dim-wit. I've met 5 years olds who are smarter.

"one of the least intelligent judges" is putting it very politely. Dumb as a box of rocks. She has ties to Lampkin; how can anyone with a straight face think Clay can judge Lampkin objectively? That is like asking Ray Charles to judge his junk man. Lets see how many snack breaks she gives ole Bertina.

Judge Clay is to the law as Forest Gump was to quantum physics. Her own ASA s know she is a goof. But not to worry; she follows instructions well.

The City will settle as there is no way Mayor Mumbles will ever submit to a deposition.

To the first poster...I hope you aren't the police. If you think its ok to torture people to get confessions you're in the wrong line of work.

Awww Bullshit!

Daley will be seen stumbling around shitting his pants and grinning like the drunken imbecile he is...

"Hee! Lookit da twees an' da pwetty flowersh... >FART-SHIT-STINK!< Smells so pwetty too!"

Does he have handlers trailing at a distance with a combination hospital crash cart & mobile adult diaper changing station?

NOBODY from this family should be allowed to move freely in this town for the shit they've pulled over the years.

Many in Daley's regime have been nice spots at CTA. CTA has no hiring rules. No oversight, no internal IG, and no accountability.

eamI agree Lampkin always signed search warrants and would stop court to see you as she knew you wanted to get the warrant signed and out.

Are you seriously pretending that Burge doesn't belong behind bars for the next few decades?

You my friend are the problem with todays society. You actually convinced yourself that the police are the bad guys. Wrice is totally guilty, I really do not care if he got wacked around. He committed a serious felony. Why should he be treated differently. What about the victim of the crime. You politically correct thinking folks do not care about the victim at all. All you care about is if the bad guy got smacked around. I hope you are a victim at the hands of a bad guy one day. Then we will see how you feel about how the police treat the bad guy.

And yes I am the police. I do not believe police shoot torture criminals into confessions. But, I will not judge how other police get the job done. None of these fools that allegedly were wrongfully convicted because they were allegedly tortures were actually innocent men. They were all very bad people who did some very bad things. If it wasn't for the police you would not be able to sleep peacefully at night, so stop the politically correct thinking and look at them for what they are. Criminals.
