No Money for You!

  • Gov. Pat Quinn said today he is suspending state lawmakers' pay until they come up with a comprehensive solution to the state's public pension mess, a dramatic gesture that is likely to increase tension with the General Assembly and the fellow Democrats who lead it.

"It's important our budget reflect what the people want," Quinn said at a news conference in Chicago, announcing he would use his line-item veto power to alter the state budget.

The move comes a day after the Democratic-controlled legislature overrode Quinn's rewrite of a concealed carry gun bill amid criticism that he wouldn't engage in meaningful negotiations over the controversial measure.
Of course, the state comptroller has asked for a legal review of the constitutionality of Quinn's actions before stopping the checks. And Quinn is almost certain to be sued by lawmakers who will cite the provision that lawmakers' salaries cannot be altered during their terms.

Quinn's career is circling the drain as more and more people realize he is not much more than a puppet to the whims of Madigan and the Chicago Machine and just because he cut a few strings, thinks he suddenly has some sort of independence.

Lisa's path is looking clearer and clearer for the democratic nomination.

In typical head-scratch-inducing fashion, Quinn also invoked a Bible verse, claiming that "if you don't do the work, you don't get paid."

Governor, aren't government handouts for people not working the very foundation of your entire political philosophy?

Well, we in Illinois are free to choose from a host of Simon's, Daley's and Madigan's while federally we have the Clinton's and Bush's.
Time to end family dynasty politics and enact term limits.
There should be no political class in the USA.

What's with demonRat pols and their disdain for constitution's, their oath of office, and THE LAW?? But worse -- what the fuck is wrong with the people who are cheering this ILLEGAL stunt by gov potato-head!?!? Are they all completely ignorant of the fact that in a constitutional democracy -- and Fed Republic (Hi King Barry) -- that the 'Executive' does not make law. That the 'Executive' does not 'rule' by fiat and dictate. That the 'Executive' does not arbitrarily decide which LAW he will follow and which he won't. Have they forgotten every damn thing they SHOULD HAVE learned in 7th Grade Civics Class??

Well here's a clue, NO, assholes, they don't. They, the 'Executive', execute the law on the books. And more precisely the oath of the 'Executive' is to faithfully execute that law -- as screwed up as said law may be. That's why there's that 'Legislature' thingy, to unscrew up what they first screwed up (ref: Democratic Party).

Now does something need to be done about pensions, you betcha, its a crisis. However its been a crisis for a long time. And if Quinn and the demonRats didn't waste so much time on crap like same sex marriage, legalizing dope, amnesty and DLs for illegals, channeling state money to Chicago, pandering to the 'gibz-me-dats', ignoring the state budget in general, pretending that ILs credit rating isn't lower than Zambia's, and always raising fucking TAXES, then just maybe they could have addressed pensions, oh.. like a fucking decade ago.

Lastly, besides the fact that the IL Constitution states that the legislatures' pay may not be altered and/or changed during a 'current year, aka: now, the IL Supreme Court ruled against the 'Executive' -- Blago -- when he tried pulling this same no pay stunt with IL Judges.

[Notice, I didn't even have to mention the Rats and Potato-Head wasting time trying to screw with the Citizens and Federal Courts on Firearms and CCW.]

/rant -- off; /civics lesson -- off
(NO offense meant to SCC and the Officers of the CPD, the Slum-Times morons got me going)

Kind of ironic that all of a sudden they are worried about whether or not stopping their pay violates the Illinois Constitution when Madigan has absolutely no qualms about changing pension benefits and stomping all over the Constitution. The House version of pension reform violates the Constitution on every level. Madigan is confident however that it will pass through the Illinois Supreme Court. He never has said that the Bill does not violate the Constitution. He only says that he can get the four votes needed to get it passed through the Supreme Court. The reason he can get four votes? There are four Democrats on the Supreme Court that are all beholding to him for their jobs. None of them would be there if he hadn't made them judges in the first place and given his final approval and the party's backing to run for the Supreme Court. They owe him.

it's not about the pension, it's about the ccw and the defiance of his changes to the bill
he couldn't understand that they were "under the gun" by the court so they rammed it through otherwise the court would have made go through and then we would have legal conceal carry on the cta which right away put the aldercreatures pets of "community activists" as possible "endangered species"

The pension mess they the politicians have created! By not paying into what the state owed!I like that one politician stated he can't do that because of the state constitution, the same constitution that protects the pensions! And these are our elected officials?

How come it's ok for PQ to say that he wants his actions to "reflect what the people want," but he refuses to acknowledge the fact that almost his whole state, minus some secular liberal progressive pockets want concealed carry...can you say hypocrite.

His actions in the past week to try to circumvent the legislative process by unilaterally imposing further infringements should be a call to all voters that he is unfit for duty and charges should follow for violating his oath to defend the Constitution.

While we are at it, maybe get one of those unused sheriff buses and clean out the springfield capitol building of all the constitutional traitors hiding in there.

Whats bad if these politicians dont get paid, they will rush some sort of pension legislation thru just to get their paychecks. I know it doesn't directly affect the CPD chances, but it sure doesn't help

Why does Quin think this is going to solve anything? They'll enact some bandaid legislation that won't fix the issue at all and will continue to tax the crap out of the taxpayers while they go on vacation.

Illinois politicians don't have the balls to fix the pension problem or this state. They're more concerned about themselves. Who cares about the rest of us?

We're coppers guys...and gals...watch the other hand.

This is all about political cover while keeping the big union money for the 14 midterms.

Madigan and Cullerton each sponsored bills, knowing that neither would be passed and the Dems could line up behind one or the other and instead of being out on a limb for letting the state go bankrupt, they can claim they supported and tried to get a pension reform bill passed. Having 2 gave sufficient cover to pass none.

Now the potato head, again knowing he can't do what he is doing, can try to look as if he is forcing the issue while he is doing nothing as well. Voila, cover on the issue, claim that "I tried" and still can get the big buck donations for Dems from the unions. LOL. Simple, smoke and mirrors, deceptive and dishonest Illinois politics as usual.

Then when it is going to go over the precipice they will get "forced" to accept some IL Republican bill and they'll hang the whole yoke of pension change on them. Then the best part, the stooopid freaking union members will buy their BS and continue to support dems while the dems sell them out for illegals, legal dope, abortion on demand, voting for felons, and whatever other far left limousine liberal lunacy they can shove down their throats.

No knowledge of the academy part of this post, but how about adding the Cullertons to that list. Since the Chicago Fire in the early 1870's, a Cullerton or thru-marriage relative has held that aldermanic seat all but 40 yrs. I'd say to add the Strogers', Beavers', Carothers',and the Jacksons to the list, but they've kinda disqualified themselves for the next little while, at least. Maybe nationally, add the Clintons to the list, now that Hillary has been active since slick Willie retired.
