Another Brilliant Idea

  • The burly officer watching over the bike racks at a Boston-area transportation hub is a real stiff.

As part of an effort to cut crime at the Alewife MBTA subway and bus station in Cambridge, transit police placed a cardboard cutout of a police officer in the bicycle cage. Hundreds of people use the racks daily.

Deputy Chief Robert Lenehan says the fake cop, along with video cameras and a new lock, has cut bike thefts by 67 percent.
Wow.

Maybe 50 of so cardboard cutouts of officers could be posted up and down Michigan Avenue to deter wilding?

Maybe another 100 could be posted in violence zones across the city to reduce spending on VRI?

Or even better, maybe someone could develop an inflatable Officer for that "3D look" to be deployed everywhere and ride shotgun with 10-99 units to alleviate manpower shortages and provide even more illusions of safety.

Keep them away from the red light and speed cameras though - Rahm wants every nickel he can squeeze out of those things.

Better yet, how about aldercreatures, after all they rubber stamp everything anyway. Look at the money that could be saved.

Recall about 15 years ago or so, the ISP parked empty patrol cars with mannequins at the wheel at various spots on 90, 55, 290, etc... It worked for about the first week at best and then once people realized they weren't real they were ignored. At one point, the car parked by the oasis on 90 had a Dunkin Donuts box left on top of it.

Great idea. Chicago's Cardboard Cop should be of McNoCrime.

Life size, all spiffed out in his Monday Morning TV Comedy Routine Uniform. Wearing his hat, one hand pointing his trusty Streetlight Gun, Biff, the other hand hanging at his side holding an open bottle of Gordon's Gin.

But Tiny Dancer better place a double order as most will wind up in Da Hood being used for target practice. (though that'd be sorta good, they fricken need it)

That would be one sure fire way to punish the Rhamthief, have a squad car sit a few feet away from the all the speed cameras. Once these theft devices start popping up we should make an effort to sit on them as much as possible and dip their effectiveness. WE could still write the speeders whenever APPROPRIATE, but his venture to soak the taxpayers for $$ will be thwarted. Just need to find the location where they are hidden and make the effort. We have the obligation to protect the citizens of this city from thugs, killers and thieves, and that includes government officials. Sometimes though, you can't take the crook into custody and get him or her charged, so this is a very plausible alternative.

Emanuel would seek donations from the business community to help pay for the cost of the cardboard and printing. By time he was done the cardboard cops would cost more than real police, the City would steal five times the stated cost and the business community would take a twenty million dollar write off on their taxes.

The City would sucker Ricketts into buying advertising on each one. The Daley and George law firm in concert with Katten Muchin Rosenman LLP. would negotiate a lease deal and the whole program would be leased to the United Arab Emirates for 150 years.

Andy Shaw would be seen scratching his head and Ben Joravsky will write countless articles on how much TIF money was lost on the deal.

That kind of ridiculous policy is only good enough for the taxpaying commoner. I'd like to see cardboard aldermen running the city council- think of all the money we'd save! No six figure salaries, no 75K slush fund per alder thief, no officers detailed to protect them- the city would run pretty smoothly without the real ones around anyway.

FYI A company allegedly out of New Yawk, and run by Rahm's family member, took control of the HAV (handicap accessible vehicle) Program from Flash Taxi starting on August 1st. On July 30, its system crashed and the company, Open Doors, has been trying to get the taxidrivers to turn over their personal cell phones to the company, for the good of the program. You pay ths bill, you answer the cell phone while driving, you take the ticket. These young know-it--alls tried to run a company dispatching calls with NO dispatch system nor FCC license nor any experience! Needless to say wheelchair riders are left stranded! Rahm created a phony crisis, lack of options for wheelchair riders, he expands the problem, and he will come up with a draconian solution. KIND OF LIKE YOUR PENSION FUNDING!!! Be careful at contract time.

She doesn't have to lie about anything. Prep the case with everyone involved, review all of the available evidence and decide what is best to do with the case amongst her supervisors (sounds like that is what she was supposed to do) and the victims (the arrests and charges were based on the victim's information). This sounds like she took everything into her own hands and did what she wanted, that would be like an officer letting an offender go RWOC without consulting with a Sgt, Lt or Capt. That would put an officer on the hot seat to be fired also. If the investigation was flawed, it falls on the investigators (involved officers and detectives).
