One Block Away

  • The weekend’s first fatal shooting happened about a block away from the Chicago Police Department’s headquarters on the South Side.

Willie Clark, 32, was shot about 12:45 a.m. Saturday while standing with a group of people behind a building in the 3600 block of South Michigan Avenue, according to police and the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.

A male shooter approached and opened fire, leaving the man with a gunshot wound to the armpit, police said.

Clark, of the 2100 block of East 97th Street, was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 1:25 a.m., according to the medical examiner’s office.
Of course, 10 years ago, this wouldn't have raised a single eyebrow in that neighborhood.

Hell, I worked at 11th and State many years ago, when you got off, you were lucky if your car was still where you parked it. Oh yeah, I almost forgot about the bomb that was detonated at the front door!

No one at HQ works weekends.
It's a spot, only cloutless blue shirts work weekends.

Virginia gun crime drops, as state's firearms sales soar

Published August 04, 2013

Amid calls nationwide for stricter gun control laws, Virginia is experiencing a unique trend: the state's gun-related crime is declining but firearms sales are increasing.

Firearms sales rose 16 percent to a record 490,119 guns purchased from licensed gun dealers in 2012, according to sales estimates obtained by the Richmond Times-Dispatch.

During the same period, major crimes committed with firearms dropped 5 percent to 4,378.

Having just been downgraded three notches by Moody’s, Chicago is suddenly hearing the uncomfortable shifting of deck chairs, as people wonder if the nation’s third-largest city is about to slam into the same debt-and-pensions iceberg that sank the SS Detroit last month.

I thought all would be right with that neighborhood the minute they opened a Starbucks where Stateway Gardens used to be. Guess I was wrong.

Here I sit at McDonalds sipping coffee and a nice S&W 640-1 .357 on me. Legal? Yes this is Texas and I have a CHL.

Violence? Sure we have some but I've been in this large city 30 years and never seen any! Read of some but never see it.

Let's hope CCW in Illinois, with more guns on the street in the hands of good people, brings the crime rates down.

And yes, if CCW becomes reciprocal with Texas I really would like to visit your city and see the famous ball parks.

Escalante stated that no POD or video search will be undertaken in regards to this homicide investigation.

The worry is McFlask will be caught on camera in parking lot drinking and sizing up the street lamps.

to 1.05am---you are a long timer-like me. Some brain surgeon decided to put auto theft court at 11th St. Then they wondered why there were all the auto thefts on Roosevelt Road.

That place was a total dump, an embarrassment,,,,,but it was built rock solid and it took twice as long as predicted to tear it down.

The current builiding was falling apart before it was even occupied. I heard someone put a bowling ball on the floor and it rolled all the way down the hall.

Why does this surprise anyone? There are no police in the building nor is any police work accomplished within. There is only ass kissing and back stabbing inside those walls!
