Another Child Shot

  • A 6-year-old Chicago boy underwent surgery Saturday after he had been shot Friday night while in a car with his mother and two sisters, a family member said.

The boy was struck in the arm by a bullet at about 11:30 p.m. Friday in the 4200 block of West Wilcox Street, near his home in the West Garfield Park neighborhood, Chicago police said. He is the sixth child younger than 8 years old to be shot in Chicago since June 30, according to Tribune records of city shootings.

“It sucks, it surely sucks,” said the boy’s maternal aunt Cassandra Johnson.

Leaving out the poor parenting choices involved, the sixth child under age 8 to catch lead should be disturbing to the community and politicians at large - however, we see almost no coverage of either decrying the violence.

And again, any weekend where upwards of 20 people being shot in a very narrow cross section of the city is considered normal and unworthy of pointed commentary (and pointed fingers), well, you get the idea.

6 year old out and about at midnight. With family or without parental judgement is also at fault. But in the hood its normal.

People are whispering that it was the Revruns doing the killing.

Now I'm not saying they did it. Just repeating what I heard

Of course it does. Who are they going to sue? Shot by one of their own? Not much there.

Point out that a 6 year old was not only up but OUTSIDE at 11:30 p.m.? Bad parenting?

Naw.

Well, at least the community is outraged. Right? They are going to march, demanding justice. Right?

Cue crickets.

Why are all these young children that have been shot outside out so late at night? I NEVER see any children out past 9:30 where I live in Edison Park.

How about truth in sentencing. Cook County Judges are allowing these animals to continue their life of crime without any real punishment.

Where are the reverunds?? If a white person.shot that girl oh man it would be national news. Im getting sick of this double standard. Kids are getting wicked and the liberal news and race baiters look the other way.

So I guess we are NOT all equal.

Maybe the mother just has shitty work hours and picks the kids up from the babysitter late.

If I was up past 9pm at 6 years old I would get smacked and sent back to bed. The inner-city culture is fundamentally flawed and broken beyond repair. These kids need to be removed from their homes at birth and be brought up properly so the cycle doesn't continue. Of course, no word from the Revruns asking why any kids at all are outside after the streetlights go on. Also, the Revruns need to start informing people to sit in their back yards like other civilized people. They can't resist the allure of the front porch.

When I was that young, a million years ago, my parents were too poor to afford a babysitter so they would bring us with them to whatever get together, friend or family, they were attending. They would put us down to sleep at the host's house and would carry us sleepyheads to the car and our own beds when they left. We lived to adulthood and are productive members of society. I don't see this as horrible parenting - on the surface. We were just fortunate in that despite being poor we didn't live in a neighborhood where bullets were regularly flying as a matter of course.

I wish there was a way to post pics of all the pasty kids I've seen at that late hour, in Edison Park and Edgebrook with their drunk parents on their RDO.

It's hard to service your drive-up customers from the suburbs if you're in your backyard.

I'm as pasty white as they come. My nickname growing up was COLGATE. Having said that, when I was visiting my uncle while they held EPFEST last year, I saw many a yute looking a bit more than just a tad bit wasted on either alcohol or weed traipsing through our alleys. You might live in denial, but that doesn't make it any less true.

Have a nice day.
