Gang Summit
- Hundreds of gang members will be invited to a summit in Chicago in an attempt to broker peace in the bloodiest neighborhoods — 20 years after “gang summits” here and in other states drew national attention, organizers said Wednesday.
The Rev. Gregory Tatum, a California pastor with Chicago roots, said he hopes the Rev. Jesse Jackson and the Rev. Al Sharpton will attend the Sept. 27-28 summit. Jackson spoke at a gang summit two decades ago in Chicago, delivering a message to gang members that they were the “new frontier of the civil rights struggle.”
“This is a historical moment, this is a national moment,” said Tatum, who grew up in the notorious Cabrini-Green public housing complex on the Near North Side in the 1960s.
A spokesman for Jackson said he was unaware of an invitation to the summit. A spokeswoman for Sharpton was unable to confirm whether he will attend.
Jesse and Al have to make sure that the food catered in is up to their standards, the cash flow is acceptably high (and exploitable), and the TV camera quotient is high enough to justify their coming there.
You know why al-Qaeda never has a seat at the table when negotiating peace? Because to do so would grant them legitimacy. And the last thing you want for any organization that deserves wholesale destruction, is to grant them any standing whatsoever in the process. Efforts like these always fail - or gives undesired results where the gangs actually gain some foothold that can be exploited by them.

I was going to chime in with the "Hill Street Blues" references.
That was a great episode, up there with the "they got no down genes" episode with the cow in the apartment.
Who are the hundreds hired for Safe Passage? Gang bangers being paid not to shoot on the school routes?
Seeing that they love to march, they should march to the event.
Jackson and Sharpton should lead the way as the gangbangers march down the Dan Ryan to the Bishop Ford to 115th Street.
At the same time the word should be put out that the Illinois State Police will not be patrolling the expressways because they do not want to be accused of profiling the gangbangers.
This would lead to less shootings in the inner city and the silencing of Jackson and Sharpton when they have contact with several vehicles drag racing or a 16 wheeler loaded with steel beams!

A serious problem with this so called "gang summit" is that there is NO centralized leadership. Not for the gangs on the south and west sides. Between us and the feds, we've done a pretty good job of decapitating the leadership of these gangs over the last decade and a half. What you have now is small factions of the SAME gang shooting and killing each other in a local power struggle with innocent residents of these communities as "collateral damage." GD's killing GD's and BD's killing BD's on the south side, while Vice Lords and 4 corner hustlers do the SAME thing on the west side. Add in the newer smaller gangs being created, and you have the chaos we see today. A "summit" will not change or stop ANYTHING. Better and tougher enforcement will.

Most couples I know who are deeply in love for many years, as Daley touted, usually don't nor want to date for 5 years after the spouse dies. I want to know whats in it for shorty, and whats in it for her? Something ain't right.

Yeah, and FDR armed the Communists during WW2. After the war there was a Cold War that lasted over 40 years with the Reds that came very close to bringing the world to end in 1962 during the JFK era. And Truman fought the Korean War against the Communists and LBJ turned Vietnam into an anti-Communist bloodbath for Americans.
