Uncle Rahm Wants You!

  • The city will take applications to join the Chicago Police Department for the first time in three years, officials announced today.

The department said it has lowered its minimum hiring age for officers to 21 and will allow individuals as young as 18 to apply. Previously, the minimum hiring age was 25 except for military veterans, who could still get hired at 21.

Applications will be accepted from Aug. 1 through Sept. 16, and a written exam will be administered in December.

In addition to a written exam, applicants will have to undergo a psychological evaluation and testing for strength, endurance and flexibility. They’ll also need to pass a polygraph test, a medical checkup, a background check and drug screening.
You too can work for an uncaring, unappreciative public and an exploitative political class. But the money ain't bad.

Yes, the money is good. But the dept has become completely warped in it's leadership, priorities and treatment of officers.

Why would anyone want to work here, the pension system is fucked. You have to live in this crappy overpriced city. You won't be able to send your kids to a public school cause they suck, The equipment sucks, the leadership sucks. The personnel suck, the aldercreatures or management will not back you if you step in shit. Please take a look at the department website promoting the exam.

The first thing they point out it the "opportunities abound" in the department.

Community Policing Liaison, who's your phone call?
Detective, there has been one test since I got on in 2000
Polygraph examiner, really? I believe only IAD is now trained for this.
SWAT, three tests since the team was formed.
Narcotics/vice/gangs, what alderman do you know?
Mounted Unit, one test since I got on in 2000
Marine Unit, no test since I got on in 2000
Bomb and arson, has there every been a test?
Canine handler, one test since I got on in 2000

Mayor Daley on the other hand still leads a charmed life, and leaves us holding the IOU's.

Oh, did I mention he's got a new girlfriend, a 41 year old. He's obviously moved on..why can't we? NO PARK..we can't afford it! If the Daley's want a Maggie memorial..let them pay for it..or raise private funds.

The pay ain't bad IF we didn't have to pay boatloads of money for our kids to go to private schools because the public ones suck. Better hire a ton of officers in the next 5 years. Has the city even looked to the near future when the officers of the 1990-1992 hiring boom will all start to retire? Don't know the numbers, but I would think several thousand officers were hired in that time frame and all will drain the pension fund and manpower down dangerously low.

If you're a single, straight male over 6 feet tall, over 200#, strong, in shape, able to actually fight, reasonably intelligent and able to discern bullshit and you meet the college requirement and have a clean background... This job is a dead-end.

If they would commit to testing and hiring with regularity, we would say come aboard, pimp the city for five years, finish your degree or go to grad school then get the fuck out.

Work for yourself or go with the Feds...

Don't sink roots here... Chicago is no longer a middle class haven by virtue of Rahm's war on the middle class taz payers.

The Chicago Police Department is now a place where your dreams of something better are guaranteed to die.

PERIOD!

There is not a single born and bred, bleed true blue Patrolman in any command position.

There is not a single clear-eyed advocate in municipal governance with the stones to support any common-sense plan of action that a born and bred, bleed true blue Patrolman could envision to restore some semblance of sanity to this city and department.

We are over-run with/by and much afflicted by people who have a real animus toward the very word of "POLICEMAN" let alone the genuinely good and noble things the word stands for.

These same people have it in their soft and squeeky heads that "POLICEMAN" somehow means one who is compelled by virtue of swearing an oath and wearing a piece of tin & bronze and a blue suit of clothes, to take on a servile and meek posture when THEIR concerns are threatened.

These same people demand that Policemen get out there and go eyeball to eyeball with the very Devils nightmares are made of yet they damn Policemen to Hell for "asking too much" in return for years taken off their lives fighting those Devils.

CPD has been re-booted into The Flying Dutchman of big city law enforcement...

The FEDS know this.

Rahm knows this.

McWellPaidStooge knows this.

The Alderfools know this.

The Media knows this.

The North Shore & Gold Coast cocktail party elites and Rahm/Sparkle-Farts big money contributors fighting the remnants of Daley Inc. for the few crumbs that are left know this.

The Northwestern University & University of Chicago "The Police Are The Problem - Let's Conduct A Multi-Year Study/Survey With Government funding & No Real Oversight Until We Get The Ginned-Up Results WE WANT That Prove The Police Are The Problem," academic grifters know this.

Everyone with a genuine concern and a vested interest in the current state of affairs here, knows this.

Not a soul in sight to make an honest attempt to fix it or try to make it right because the general calculus is that it's ONLY Policemen who are going to be hurt after all is said and done.

Them that gots and never had to pay into the community pot?

Did not, do not, nor ever will give a flying fuck.

CPD will be turned into The Cocked-Hat Public Safety & Customer Service Agents of Chicago...

$12.00 an hour and lots of artificial churn to insure turn over and keep pay and benefits low.

The wet-dream of Rahm, Rauner, Msall and others once they manage to do away with those pesky public employee pensions, land a couple of chicago casinos and pass some bullet proof legislation that not a penny of casino revenue goes to shoring up those pesky pensions.

They're calling it "Pension Reform" if we're not mistaken.

Nah... If you young people value yourselves and you value quality of life, Chicago is not worth your grief, aggravation and years off your life.

Rahm at least knows THAT...

Why do you think HE'S so feverishly working on HIS exit strategy to leave everybody else holding the trick-bag while he's free and easy to get the fuck out of dodge?

Watch what he does and filter what he says...

Yes, this job is worth it. I am not going to whine and cry like most people. The money is good and the benefits are good. Right off the bat you'll get three weeks off. In five years it's about 3.5 weeks off. Then after 10 years it's like five whole weeks off.

Most of the time you are left to yourself to do what you want. You have freedom. Of course you want to assist other officers and such. But this job is awesome. I hate it when officers will just talk negative but won't say anything positive about it.

Here is something to think about- tons of people say how bad this job is. But guess what? In my 23 years of service, I do not know a single person who actually resigned because they couldn't take it anymore. So they talk negative with their mouth but won't actually do anything with their feet.

Benefits are slowly being whittled away by the city. Rahm wants to screw us on our pension and take the medical away from retirees. There is no future in this department or city. Don't get locked into this mess.

For those on here who will call us whiners, they are most likely the ones who have been taken care of their whole careers, selling their souls for that one spot that keeps them out of patrol.

I refused the job offer because I am vested in my career and refuse to be a police officer without being able to be the police. To the poster that said I really want to be a cop but have no military experience, what advise do you want? Take the fucking exam and wait for a phone call. Then go do your sit ups and don't lie. If you have no criminal history you'll go to the top of the pile. Then try not to act desperate and juvenile. Keep your mouth shut and eyes and ears open for your first three years.

There is a catch-22 here. If you sign up for this job at this time in history, you are nuts. If you don't sign on for this job your sane, but not on the job. This city is a fucking joke.

(I know, if you don't like this city leave comments coming)

If I had to start over, I wood have joined NY, and been the next Gerry McCarthy. God knows you'd have a better chance at being a chicago boss coming from NY anyways and their pension plan is funded.

Only you can be the judge of that. Military time doesn't make you a natural for this job (but it can be very helpful). Education doesn't hand you the smarts you need to do well on the street. Being physically fit doesn't mean you'll be tactically sound. With that said, there are many bums who have all that you do, great ones who don't, and vice versa. If you're going to be asking yourself five years from now "What if?" then you may as well get it over with. Apparently, you have not found your dream job or are making so much money that you would risk it for a career you're not sure about. My advice is try it and if you find out it's not for you, get out before you get stuck. I have the degrees, the military, and started early 30s so I can understand your questions...but no one can tell you how you will handle what this job and the calls you go to will affect you. Reality is we have a high amount of overstressed, alcoholic, antisocial, pessimistic, depressed people...but if you get on you will understand why. With that said it's the best job I've ever had!

Anyone thinking about doing this job should pay very close attention to the constant attack on first responders coming out of city hall. Rahm and his crew beat the police and fire to death blaming all the cities problems on them. From horse shit raises to attacking our pensions. it's relentless.

7/31/2013 10:59:00 AM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Well the money aint bad if you plan on staying single- raising a family on this, however is another story. If you like working on the few days you actually get off then I guess you can send your kids to a decent school. Don't plan on being around too much to see them grow up because you will be working mostly on the weekends and holidays, and working late hours and odd shifts. Find a faithful wife that can live without you for most of the time because you won't be seeing much of her either. Don't get sick because our medical benefits are dwindling. Once upon a time we actually had good coverage, but now they are denying claims and charging for chiropractic visits- we used to get 20 adjustments/yr covered. And the city plans to dump all of us into the Obamacare plan so they don't have to pay for anything. Plan on bringing plenty of tools to work because half the equipment you will be using is broken, so a pair of pliers, screwdriver set, and roll of duct tape is highly recommended. And finally, remember that there will be 2 sets of rules when you work for this department; one set you will follow and a separate set of rules for the management and city officials. Remember the rules you must work by are written in stone and contract and breaking them subjects you to an array of punishments deemed fitting by the management. The rules for management and city officials however are flexible and can change from day to day, hour to hour. This means they are enforceable only at the discretion of your leaders. Welcome to the CPD

People out in the real world working jobs everyday are more qualified on average than the people who "hide out" in college taking nonsense subjects.

The only thing college kids are better at is drinking. We do not need more experts in that field.

I wish more people on this job realized how linked their financial future is to the city's financial future. Too many people post on here that they can't wait to just move away after retirement. But they don't realize that as the city declines, so will their property value and the likelihood of getting a pension check every month.

Crime is causing a tremendous drain on the potential growth of this city. Some of the reason for so much crime lies with politicians and judges who pander to criminals. Some of the reason lies with the ineffective leadership in the police department.

And some of the reason lies in a police force where too many cops are too lazy, too scared, or too stupid to effectively do their job. Only one of these drains on the city is under our control and if you are still dreaming of a cabin in the woods and plenty of money to retire at 55 while you and many of your fellow cops continue business as usual, then you truly are a fool.

Does anyone else remember Lars America First Daly who ran for mayor in an Uncle Sam Suit?

We would be doing better with Lars.

(Still want to see the animated cartoon of Rahm's head exploding.)

If they gave polygraphs back then, three quarters of the people on the job would not make it on today.

The polygraph is a joke. They ask you a few basic questions and you're out of the room. The person giving the test had no idea what to do.

I am in my mid-30s, white, male and am looking to become a cop. I have a college degree, clean record, can likely do more situps and pushups than most men half my age, but have no military time.

Is it worth applying? Looking for guidance here.

7/31/2013 12:33:00 AM

I would say yes. I have over 20 years on and still like my job. Contrary to what you may read on this blog there are chances for advancement and to move around even without clout. This job is what you make it. Go out and have fun. Yes its not the same as the "old days" but what job doesn't change over time.

You will find that the biggest headaches you will get are not from the public or even the politicians but your some of your fellow Officers. Most of the Officers on the job are great but every watch has a couple who think they are smarter then everyone and can run things better than any boss past, present and future. They are the biggest complainers and the biggest dogs.

I don't know what the medical or pension will be like in the future but take that into consideration when you apply.

There are also some excellent CPS schools in the system in good neighborhoods that blow away anything in the Catholic School system. You just have to look for them. Trust me you can get your kids into them.

Good luck on whatever choice you make.

What's with this 18 yo crap?????? They shouldn't be hiring anyone under 25, let alone letting an 18 yo process then get hired at 21.

I'm sorry but 21 yo's these days are friggin morons. 21 now isn't like 21 twenty years ago.

No,get a real job. With out a phone call/political juice you will push a beat car for 20-30 years.

If CPD actually follows State Statute if you are 35+ you are too old if you have never been a PO.Waivers can be granted from the Stae Training Board but do not hold your breath, unless connected.

Yes, the money is good. But the dept has become completely warped in it's leadership, priorities and treatment of officers.

7/31/2013 12:07:00 AM

Money is fair at best, seeing as we are required to live in the city. Sure there are people earning less, but are they risking their lives daily at the level all first-responders do? No! Do they have the potential to earn much more in the private sector when the economy is good? Yes!

Law enforcement can be a very rewarding career, but I would use CPD as a steping stone to federal law enforcement. I wish I had.

For those that go through the process, always remember that any promise the city makes is a hollow one at best.

Good luck to all.

I would probably say anyone that needs to list their race on a list of qualifications or a description of themselves means your probably not ready to enforce the law equally across all ethnic groups. There is no need to list race when asking if it is worth you trying out for a job, race should have no bearing in your decision making process on applying for the CPD.

The majority of us are grateful for the job you're doing and realize the tremendous risk entailed and frustration with the pension situation and lack of real leadership. We need to take back our city/county and elect a constitutional mayor and sheriff. Surely we must have many at CPD or the Sheriff Dept. who would make a superb sheriff and prevent federal overreach as the constitution intended. A patriot for mayor would give you new leadership as well. I hope you'll seriously consider this...

Feds aren't any better, but a Federal job is.
Less restrictive about location of residence, get to see the world (or at least a few cities til you find a post that works out for you), less chance of being shot at in a dark alley on a Saturday night, cleaner working environment.
You're going to play politics, to some degree, in any job, including law enforcement, so that's no different, but such is life.
Want excitement? Go to DEA. Want stability? Postal police. Take the CPD training, go Federal, and get out of this city as fast as you can.

Pretty good advice except for one problem. Right now the feds aren't hiring, especially with the sequester and its not easy getting one of those jobs. A few want police experience besides the degree and had a friend with the FBI who was placed in Flint Michigan for the first 8 years. Flint is no better and maybe worse than Detroit, School system is worse than CPS All I'm saying is the grass isnt al;ways greener on the other side

With that said, there are many bums who have all that you do, great ones who don't, and vice versa. With that said it's the best job I've ever had!"7/31/2013 10:25:00 AM

Dear Friend: You said it best, and it is true for me as well. I worked in private industry full time from age 16 to 37, then joined the CPD, and it TRULY IS the most fun and best-paying job ever! For so many stating how much this job "sucks," I see very few racing to quit and find something better.

The kicker is this: the pension IS slowing sinking; in 11-15 years it may go completely bankrupt, so it is still a decent job with BETTER than average pay, but DO NOT expect a pension! It will probably be non-existent on your day of retirement. So, work some overtime and invest in your future wisely.

My Dad's Career 1970-1990:

5 Kids in private school
Summer home in Wisconsin
Mom stayed at home raising us
College affordable to all
Crime controlled by cops, not politicians or academics.

My career 1990- 2013
No kids in private schools: cost as much as universities
No summer home
Wife works full time--tag team parenting
College costs beyond reach of working class
Crime is only understood by politicians and academics.

Being the police in the past 20 years has experienced de-evolution, not evolution.

Sorry folks, its the truth.

Anyone thinking about doing this job should pay very close attention to the constant attack on first responders coming out of city hall. Rahm and his crew beat the police and fire to death blaming all the cities problems on them. From horse shit raises to attacking our pensions. it's relentless.

7/31/2013 02:08:00 AM

Take it easy glory boy. This department has made former workers like myself into self preserving DOGS! I have to much time on to go chase that almighty pack, for that whole 3 hours of court. See I now use this job and make it my bi&ch by doing all my personal errands on company time, studying for school on the city dime, and getting nice workouts in all on company time. The first 15 years were the city's the next 15 are all mine! I will back anyone up, fight the beast for my fellow officer but I will never ever be proactive for this ungrateful city.

See, guys like you give police everywhere a bad name. Why do you think you are owed or deserve anything? For doing your job? Guess what, in the private sector if you run errands and work out and do the bare minimum you would be fired in a heartbeat. Why are we different? We're not... You just use the I'm the police and have a tough job so I can get away with anything excuse. Face it, your lazy. You most likely were always lazy. Why do u feel you are entitled to scam the system and not do your job. If you owned a business and your employee did nothing and scammed you and ran errands would you shake his hand and say good job? No, you would fire him. Guess what, there are a whole lot of professions that are way harder and much more dangerous than ours and those people still HAVE to do their jobs right. You just think you are owed something... Guess what, you don't work for free. We get good money, uniform checks etc a great furlough system etc. I can't stand the complaining from people who use the excuse of getting jammed up or self preservation. If you wanted self preservation then you should have gotten a different job or quit. Why don't you quit?? Because even you know it's good perks money etc. your the guy who hates the job, the city, the dept and is a dog but the first one to confront everyone off duty and scream your the police... Get over yourself you stroke. Do your job and stop thinking your entitled to be lazy because you've " been there done that".. And nobody cares that you work in 011.. Worse than the criminals because at least the criminals admit they are losers?

You don't deal with the animal much, do you?

15 years smelling ass and feet and plaquey breath
Spending hours in court every week watching the revolving door, seeing good cops get dragged through hell with bullshit lawsuits, going down to answer to lies at either ops/ipra or iad, losing friends to suicide or other illnesses because of years of mental strain, divorces, bosses who are probably in all seriousness mildly retarded but clouted and protected, co-workers who might be too soft or too dumb or too scared or maybe dirty so you navigate and you compensate and you play the chess game enough to outwit all the opponents...

I agree with the guy from 011... I am at just over 15 yoj, finally getting my second wind, I plan to pay more attention to spouse and kids, spend more time at home, try to complain less, appreciate all the good coppers I've been blessed to meet over the years, and steer clear away from anymore nonsense.

By the time the pendulum swings and the public stops kissing the beast's ass, and starts demanding law and order in place of lipservice
and mayhem, I'm gonna be drooling in my jello.

As for good people who want to come on the job now, we'd be lucky to have motivated fresh legs willing to learn and do their best, why discourage them?

Lesson one:
Don't look at SCC comments for advice on taking this job. Full of whiny, sour and grumpy group of 20+ officers posting the same shit every day at 12:05am while they sit in a squad and whine about this "shitty dept".

This is still a good job, the pay is good, the benefits are way better than the private sector. You cannot expect to please everyone in a 10,000+ strong department, so you will get the occasional whiners , the same whiners we had 25+ years ago. Only difference now is that they have a place to whine at (SCC) , giving the impression of this "doomed department ".

Get on, back up your officers , enjoy the ride.
Good luck to all you prospective officers.

The truth of the matter is this is one of the worst police agencies in the state. I have been here 15 years and have slowing watched this department turn to shit. Why would anyone want to work here, the pension system is fucked. You have to live in this crappy overpriced city. You won't be able to send your kids to a public school cause they suck, The equipment sucks, the leadership sucks. The personnel suck, the aldercreatures or management will not back you if you step in shit. Go and work in a suburban department or better yet, put forth some effort get a degree and go FED....DEA, FBI, ATF, ICE....anywhere but this rats nest.....

Then why in God's name are you still here? I love reading comments like this. The commentator hates the job so much yet he's been doing it for 15 years. How are you able perform your duties without your attitude affecting your performance?

Check out this article. Yuppies from 019 cannot figure out the crime problem.

http://crimeinboystown.blogspot.com/2013/07/miscellany-we-tweet-caps-meet-reporters.html?m=1

They were okay with the "problem" when there were a handful of thugs conveniently set up on the corners of Halsted plying their trade (selling sex and drugs.) That was when they thought that the police were racist. For years they, as well as the tavern owners, only had disdain for the police. They wanted to police the area themselves. Fact: a supervisor got launched for ::gasp:: conducting a licensed premise investigation at a tavern on Halsted.

Unfortunately they didn't have the foresight to realize that they opened a hornet's nest when they became customers of these thugs. Times have changed, the problems have multiplied and so have the victims.

I came on in March of 90. If memory serves me......we had over 300 in the academy just from that class alone. Will max out, pension wise, in 2019.

LOL. Have you seen the recruiting video with Cheryl Hurley in it? LMAO again. Cheryl, what department do you work for? Talking about all the opportunity out there on CPD and all the openings? Get real Cheryl. I was really disappointed in you after seeing that. You of all people knowing how this department is, how it's run and how the 'opportunities' really work on this job.

I have a lot going on with my personal life and have one foot out the door and pity all the people who get stuck working their $17/hour security jobs or praising VRI.

I run a business and grossed more than a Deputy last year and didn't have to put up with Gary McCarthy telling me once a week at a compstat meeting what an incompetent asshole I am. I do zero contact cards, zero movers and write an ANOV when I want to and they can stick curfews up their asses.

Shame on you Cheryl for partaking in that deceiving promo video into telling perspective recruits into how great the job is and how they all stand a chance working on the Mounted Patrol Unit and Canine.

Any potential recruits out there reconsider this job.

Coppers on this job take my advice. I have an associates degree and had zero clue about running a business. I now have 2 employees going FT; one PT and bringing on office help soon. I am no genius but if I can do it then most of you can. LMAO.

It just takes hard work and perseverance. Don't let this job dictate your life and what you do. Don't let this job tell you when you can retire; let Rham know when you are leaving.

It's really not that hard. You just have to keep at it like I did. Funny how many fellow coppers chucked when I started this biz. I laugh at myself too. Every time I go to the bank that is.

Really sorry to see you partake in that video Cheryl. I see you sold out.

Normally I'd sign my name but will remain anonymous this time. Those of you who know me know who this.

He never said when he got that degree or if he was in any career field. Judging by his questions, my guess is that his degree is recent and he's had a series of dead end jobs. I got on at 29 and it was my third full time job six years after graduating college.

He must have been doing something since he graduated from high school, like 17 years ago , when he was 18. If he rteally wanted to be a po he could have taken the test in 2010 when he had 60 college credits. Im assuming had them then

Do you think the morons on this job would last in the private world? I know FTO's on this job that dont even know what report to do? So please dont act like this is a tough job, a bunch of well trained monkeys could do this job. Who ever boasted about being from 011? TO:
I would probably say anyone that needs to list their race on a list of qualifications or a description of themselves means your probably not ready to enforce the law equally across all ethnic groups.

u must be non white. White males are discriminated against in the CPD. The push for diversity excludes them. So the point is that does it make sense for a white male in his 30's to apply when the cards are stacked against him.
You see, all we hear about is how blacks are discriminated against (real or imagined). But no one talks about the institutional reverse discrimination against white males.
It's very sad and you should not try to ripe out discrimination against one group with discriminating against another. Most if not all of the white males who would be interested in a city job never had ancestors with slaves. Many had ancestors that were treated like shit when they came to this country and struggled while trying to reach the American dream. Nothing was ever given to them on a silver platter as it is to so called minorities.

Lovely. So, you can join the CPD but you can't rent a car. Rental car companies have a minimum age of 25 because our pre-frontal lobe of the brain is not fully mature until that age. While this maturity does not guarantee the impulse control that comes with such organ maturity, it ensures the best possible outcome. Really, we want to give a 21 year old with no military training the power that comes with a gun and a badge? Scary.

"And nobody cares that you work in 011..."

my family and co-workers care because we lookout for each other when a day's work is about more than hanging out all day, playing with my phone.

the job is flat out different depending on where you go to roll call, and who your customers are every time you get out of the car.

this silly sweeping absolute statement about "quitting or resigning if you don't like it" makes no sense.

there were times you looked forward to showing up. the camaraderie, a bit of competition, figuring things out for better or worse, and, believe it or not, the occasional cluster that included the support of white shirts putting their heads together so everyone went home with a sense that people had your back.

Now that those things have dwindled and deteriorated beyond belief, you better believe I'm putting in applications in towns that demographically and politically make more sense with a family to support in modest and traditional fashion.
As soon as the time is right FOR ME, then, hell yes, I'm resigning.
As for your silly empty clueless challenge to either love it or leave it- F-YOU, suckass!

First thing you have to know is everything is racist about being the City Police.
Liberal Media against you.
Liberal people against you.
Criminals against you.
Politicos against you.
Sometimes bosses against you.
Your stuck in a soon to be Detroit.

Feds very cut throat and back stabbing for little to no promotions. Yes great money but its blood money because your never home traveling and moving your family at their disposal. Mostly to shitty and very expensive areas cause your new.

No such thing thing as brotherhood on the Fed level unless your in a swat team. They eat their own.

If you have to do Fed the best ones are: NCIS, ATF,ICE, U.S. Fish and Wild Life.

Your better off staying local and applying to the Northwest Suburban Depts. who have money for new cars, training and you benefits.

On the State level you can live where ever you want and have a take home car: ISP, Conservation Police, ICC Police, ILL IRS and Gaming Agents.

Good luck !

Jody, you're just pouting because they changed your stupid age policy.
Did it ever occur to you that the rental companies are wrong and maybe a 21yr old is competent to drive (since they've already been licensed for five years anyway)?
Nothing wrong with a properly trained 22yr old being the police. (Yes, I said 22. They have training time and probationary time. By the time they're out there on their own, they're 22, at the very least.)

WTF are you talking about. The only test that required the CPD to hire recruits at 25 was the last one. Prior to that and for the last 50 years that I know of the age was 21 and we survived. Cadets were hired when they turned 21 and most of them became bosses. What I'm trying to say is there is nothing wriong with hiring a 21 yr old Last test required you to be 25 so that made the last 50 years wrong

Have been doing it for all the tests except the last one Dont know how the CPD compares with renting a car and for your information a 21 year old can rent a car, but the rental company just puts a surcharge on it
According to your logic, with a persons deminished mental capacity before 25, maybe they shouldn't be allowed to get a drivers license or drink
