Misplaced Priorities

  • Chicago’s top cop says tougher gun laws would save lives in Chicago, including those of gang bangers.

Standing before some of the more than 4,000 guns seized by Chicago Police this year, Superintendent Garry McCarthy outlined four cases where men picked up for unlawful use of a weapon later became victims.

“A 21-year-old man was shot on July 23, was convicted of aggravated UUW in September of 2012. He was given six months of probation,” said McCarthy.

McCarthy says too many illegal guns and not enough truth in sentencing means more violence in Chicago so he wants state lawmakers to pass tougher laws.
While we're all in favor of more prison time for those who violate the laws, especially violent felons using illegal weapons, let us just be among the first to say, "who really cares if a gang banger gets killed by another gang banger?" If he gets out from whatever sentence he serves and manages to get killed shortly thereafter, we really don't give a rat's ass. Good riddance to bad rubbish. We'd be more worried about....oh, we don't know....a four-year-old getting her stomach and intestines scrambled by a stray bullet than someone who is and will be nothing but a drain on society for the next couple of decades.

Garry's logic.

If you're on probation you're not allowed to carry -- see? Therefor unarmed citizens become victims?

This is why the snitches get stitches code of silence works so well.

Anyways with Obama care about to kick in and Rahm so hard-up for more money I'd not be surprised if he started handing out guns to get some of that Fed Obama care cash ya know?

Trickle down economics. As the blood trickles down the cash registers ring, the campaign donations roll in.

150 shootings per month, man oh man. Look at the money! Look at it!

-Social media and tenacious Chicago cops who refused to give up on seemingly questionable 911 calls are credited with rescuing a woman who was sexually assaulted in an apartment near Clark and Diversey this morning.
The first call to Chicago emergency personnel came around 4:00AM from a man in Seattle who said the victim sent a Tweet in which she gave her address and said that a man robbed her of her phone. Officers arrived at the Hampden Court apartment building, but could not find the woman's name on the directory. Dispatchers called the man in Seattle and learned that he did not know the woman personally and that he was just passing along what he saw on Twitter.

Moments later, a series of 911 calls were received from the woman's Facebook friends who reported that she had posted a worrisome status update about a dispute with her boyfriend. The Facebook friends were able to give police the woman's correct name and officers on-scene "woke up half of the building" in an effort to get buzzed in.

Once inside the apartment, police discovered that the woman had been sexually assaulted by a man, presumably the woman's boyfriend, who had taken her phone in an effort to keep her from calling for help. The brave victim found another way to communicate: a computer.

The assailant is in police custody and the woman is being treated at Illinois Masonic Medical Center.

The Chicago Police Department's Violent Crimes unit is currently at the crime scene.

So while I agree I could care less about bangers this way of putting this lets the the idiots who do care about bangers consider tougher gun laws. And we all know we have a lot of people in Chicago who love making victims of bangers. Honestly this is a good way of getting these people, some won't a lot of power, to back this.

Off Topic---But a hearty GFY to Rahm after receiving my current water bill that is more than the last one, much more than the previous one to that and about double than the ones just a few years ago.

I hope you choke on this extortion.

That coupled along with the tax increases to pay for your other bullshit are breaking us--do we honestly need more flower boxes in the middle of main streets? (2000-2300 Lawrence for example)

You play hardball with us over our pay, imnsinuating that we are greedy and lazy, but we need the pay raises to pay the extra expenses that you and your cabal in the City Council have foisted upon the people who actually pay the bills in this town.

My elderly neighbors, both retired CPD, are petrified that they won't be able to live with the tax increases and the city fee increases that you shoved up the collective asses of the true taxpayers in this city.

On a more personal note--I'm going to have to tell my kids that the family vacation we planned is going to be shorted and maybe hockey and football might be cut.

I am still astounded that a man who's only formal education is a BA in Communications has risen to such heights, including a seat on the Fannie Mae board that netted you about $12,000,000 even though you have no formal banking or investment training or experiance.

I guess getting Bill Clinton his coffee while you worked in his White House got you such experiance.

Have to agree with you. They have a right to strike, but look what they turned down 9% over 2 years, 6% the first year. Below is from an article on the strike

The union walked out July 1 seeking better wages and benefits, after failing to secure a 3 percent wage increase per year for five years and a $1,100 monthly pension plan.

Teamsters turned down SCI's offer of a 9 percent wage increase over two years -- 6 percent in the first year and 3 percent the next.

Nope if a mutt gets shotted in the head and dies on the spot, not many medical resources get used. It gets expensive when the EMT's speed his unworthy ass to the hospital and several hundred thousand tax dollars are wasted patching him up, only so he can repeat the same scenario.
