HQ Still Collapsing?
Not that they've actually done anything about it, but this appears to be the next step after noticing the floors are sagging:
- Off topic...there appears to be structural concerns at 35th st. All exterior columns are being examined by an engineering firm.....drywall cut to expose the columns....not a standard examination. Perhaps the leaning building, sinking parking lot......shitty construction....etc. or all thr fukn ego's slanting the bldg.
A basic physical/visual check doesn't usually involve cutting open sections of the wall. This appears to be a genuine effort to discover exactly where the collapse is originating from and where stress fractures might be located on the exterior load-bearing structures. If you work down there, you might want to start asking some questions.

Years ago before the building was even opened for use, there were a lot of reports of chairs on rollers sliding away from desks on a regular basis (tilted floors. Also it was said that when the architects were planning the building, they didn't take consideration for the amount of paper reports that were to be stored on the second floor. This wasn't discovered until the construction was completed. In a last ditch effort, all the columns on the first floor were shored up and reinforced as a quick fix instead of reevaluating what really needed to be done. Nothing was ever done to the builder or the architect. It's a good thing for them that they were clouted and this happened in Chicago. Almost anywhere else, they would have had to deal with real consequences...
Shoddy work and materials, inexperienced clouted crews, and connected contractors. What could possibly go wrong?
Now these same firms will make more money fixing problems they created. A win/win for the connected, lose/lose for the taxpayers.
At least it's not as bad as that overpriced $43 million mess of a police station in Skokie.

The columns are bowing outward by the weight of the facade that was welded incorrectly. The floors are so bad, you literally have to hold the desk to keep from rolling. It's unbelievable.

How about identifying the builder, architect, general contractor, etc.? Would be nice to give them some "exposure".

The Construction Manager was former CPD Commander Bill Corbett. Gotta have one of their own in charge to look after the graft. Now no one to blame but themselves.
That is what happens when someone is running something like a big construction project and he knows someone rather than something.
The clouted ran it, the clouted can go fuck themselves. Same story, our tax money down the pisshole. More tax money to fix it. The "corporations" formed to build those buildings dissolved after the last payout. No one to sue. None were built by reputable construction companies.

The "tilt a whirl" building is in full swing! Don't forget the doors that cannot be aligned due to,the frames moving, the splash mountain ride where when you walk like in the medical section water cascades down on you, the tip water ride in the parking lot, the famous gym where the round dumbells had to be replaced with hexagon type so they would not roll across the floor, the roller desk where they had to put wooden shims under them to keep drawers from opening calling this the ghosts is in the house exhibit! The short concrete pour to save money, yes another dales connected payoff contractor!
Yawn who cares.
Putting the Fire Department in that building will probably save Police lives, since the firefighters will be able to officially recognize that it is unsafe. Like the high school we use for training because it is unsafe for students. Was this the same contractor?

I told her about the huge xray machine.

1st district was one of the first new stations to be built about a dozen years ago. Since then major portions of the building have had to be rebuilt because of shoddy work and alot of settling that caused half the doors to jam solid, cracks in floors and walls that looked like an earthquake rolled thru and plumbing breaks that flooded locker rooms with shit. Heating/cooling is hit or miss and the parking lot has so many dips in it you could take your kids there after a good summer rain and tell them its a water park. I remember they installed one of those fancy assed multiscreens in the roll call room and within a year it crapped out and they put a little 32" in front of it that I believe is still there to this day.

ITs a swamp. When you build on a swamp, what do you expect? There were attempts to build the old tunnel system in the same areas of 22 to 35th (the system that flooded when the piling was driven into it) and they had to stop due to toxic swamp gas.

The guys from the day Mission Team are five year wonders who have been on the team for at least three years. Must be nice. So these spoiled little brats decide to leave early one night. Guess what? A shooting happens after they leave. Guess who wants to know where the Mission Team cars are at the time of the shooting? That's right. The Nature Boy.
Instead of taking their licks like a man the prima donnas from the day Mission Team throw the midnight DSS under bus. They say the midnight DSS let them leave early that day. He was RDO. The midnight DSS was giving the guys some play by letting them leave at 330am but they don't have to tell Leo that. So these spoiled little brats from the day Mission Team not only piss off Leo and the XO but decided to top it all off by including the midnight DSS too.
These day Mission Team guys live the good life. They work straight days in the tact office. They barely make arrests and no one screws with them. They have to do one period of the 8pm start and they want to bitch and moan about it like little girls.

Please look at the new 12th district. The A/C dosen't work and they put portable units all over the station to keep it cool. Rumor is they call the HVAC company that installed it but because the city didn't pay them they won't come out. The natural grasses around the district, well there just weeds. 4 to 5 foot weeds. I did construction consulting for an attorney who sued the city for the poor construction not long after it was built. I don't know the outcome of that suit but I think I will try to contact that attorney.
Funny mentioning the huge multiscreen TV that doesn't work in 001- we have the same thing in our district too lol.... those screens cost thousands of dollars and broke within a couple of weeks. Now they have some little TV on a stand in the roll call room for all streaming videos, which don't work half the time anyway. The equipment on this job is 3rd rate with total shit for maintenance - the police in the ukraine are doing better with dog pulled sleds and motorola startacs. How could anyone take this place seriously- I mean seriously??

Not surprised at all. How do you think funding is approved for these massive projects? They use minimal materials for the largest jobs and its approved becuase everyone oww's and aww's at a giant projector screen as if it will help reduce crime somehow. The next to go, some of the parking garages. I'm not an architect, but 30+ cars supported by 12 inches of concrete dosent seem right. when I walk on the 2nd floor and a car passes I can feel the ground shake. Is that normal?

They set up sham corporations that dissolve after the last payout check to cover their ass for just this type of thing. You will have to go file FOIA requests to find out the particulars but those are frequently "lost." With Rahm's "transparency" they stall until all the documents asked for are shredded and give you what is left and declare that they turned over all they had.
The construction manager I can provide. It was former Chicago Police Commander, former Fleet Management Director, former 911 construction manager, former CPD officer detailed to CC States Attorney Ed Hanrahan's office (Dec 69) William Corbett.
Now retired from all that. His connections to Daley got him all those jobs. He had little or none experience in building police headquarters but he is the guy who ran that job. He did a crappy job at the 911 center too. As a reward for doing that shitty job, they gave him CPD HQ to run. South Side Irish, of course.
You can look it up.
Walsh Construction was the general contractor and II in One Contractors did the concrete. Lohan Associates was the architect.

Wrong. 6th District was first. 1st came after; around 1998. McNulty was first Cmdr of 001. Major structural problems with 1st District. Lot's of work since then.
1st District was the site of a junk yard... All kinds of greases, solvents, oils and rat shits on top of being the bottom of Lake Michigan (sand) a few hundred years ago...
Piss poor site prep + @ a 30% skim on the concrete = A building falling in on itself just like at HQ...
All of the contractors should have taken it dead in the fart-pipe, forfeited payment then got dragged off to prison.... Concrete and mortar isn't supposed to crack like drying river mud when it's setting.
