- Amid calls nationwide for stricter gun control laws, Virginia is experiencing a unique trend: the state's gun-related crime is declining but firearms sales are increasing.
Firearms sales rose 16 percent to a record 490,119 guns purchased from licensed gun dealers in 2012, according to sales estimates obtained by the Richmond Times-Dispatch.
During the same period, major crimes committed with firearms dropped 5 percent to 4,378.
"This appears to be additional evidence that more guns don't necessarily lead to more crime," said Thomas R. Baker, an assistant professor at Virginia Commonwealth University's L. Douglas Wilder School of Government and Public Affairs who specializes in research methods and criminology theory.
So once again, McCarthy, Rahm, liberals and politicians everywhere are wrong blaming guns for crime.
We're a bit disappointed in Fox News for running that opening paragraph as every reputable study has shown for years that rising rates of gun ownership has a direct effect on the number of crimes committed. Virginia is not unique in their crime rate dropping - it's been a proven fact for years. But we suppose even Fox News has its share of liberals-in-disguise posing as actual journalists at times.

Whew, I love how they started with that Gag-A-Maggot line (I hate drinking my coffee twice, yuck). Anyone with 1/2 a functioning brain (sorry Gmac) knows that's complete BS, which Prof. John Lott proved decades ago with hard data in his book, More Guns, Less Crime.
That is, unless 'nationwide' is defined as East Coast Moonbats, West Coast Limousine-Libs, Demo-Commie pols, and 600 newspaper editors. Now 'somehow'(/s) I don't think that would be technically correct, nor appreciated by the people in those funny areas below the Lear Jets of those usual suspects they call: Flyover Country -- which includes most of Illinois. (Yes Tiny Dancer and McJersey, there is another whole land mass beyond the Tri-State and I-80 in IL that isn't Chicago or Cook County.)
Anyway, the shock and disbelief feigned by these gun-grabbers at the current More Guns = Less Crime stats reminds me of the 90's when Prisons and Jails were all at overflow capacities and crime dropped across the country. Every Elite Talking-Pinhead refused to see the correlation between career criminals being locked away and not being on the streets committing carnage, and crime dropping while they're in prison: *Chadsworth, why do you think Marqueeth isn't robbing Banks now? Hmmm, good question Prof DoGoody? Though I'm sure being sentenced to Statesville for 25 years has nothing to do with it.*

If they are so against guns... why do all of them have armed guards?

Pro-gun myself but to add something to the discussion a raw number of sales increases doesn't really mean much if it's just from collectors increasing the size of their collection. Though it'd be presumptuous and silly to say the entirety of sales were to people who already owned weapons the statistic is meaningless without some metric for discovering how many are new purchasers.
That information is a lot harder to come by though.

Maybe the CPS students are scoring too high and they don't want to embarrass their counterparts in private college prep schools or suburban schools like St Ignatius, Loyola Academy, New Trier HS etc.
