- A Chicago man who objects to having to submit to drug testing as a condition of living in an apartment that he rents from the Chicago Housing Authority filed a lawsuit Thursday challenging the policy in federal court.
Joseph Peery, 58, has lived in the Parkside of Old Town mixed-income housing development on the Near North Side since 2010. Drug tests are required of all renters before they move into the complex and every year on renewal of a rental agreement, Peery said.
"It's humiliating, embarrassing, stigmatizing, and it's unfair," Peery said in an interview. "I think it needs to end."
This certain housing development is a mixed-income private/public partnership affairs where the developer is supposed to make a certain number of units available to those of lower economic status...one of those liberal initiatives that attempt to bend the laws of economics. In an effort to protect their investment and that of their actual paying clients, the companies try to ensure that those receiving "free" tax money are people with the actual drive to improve their situations.
We're pretty sure no one is stopping this guy or anyone else from taking their voucher to another location that doesn't screen their residents for drug use.

Since when is subsidized housing a 'civil right'? Because if it is, why are people put on waiting lists for housing, and others never qualify?
These realtors and local MSM are full of shit. The "Parkside of OLD TOWN" stands on the same ground on the south side of Division St. where the most violent projects of Cabrini-Green once stood. I live on the north periphery of Old Town. I resent that realtors and media now refer to this blood-soaked acreage as Old Town. Same goes for that shithole of "Marshall Field Garden Apartments" on the west side of Sedgwick St. between Evergreen and Blackhawk Sts.
Guess what, asshole, if I have to pass a drug test to be employed so I can pay taxes to keep a roof over your head; YOU NEED TO TAKE A DRUG TEST TO STAY THERE!

At one time the CHA would not rent to single mothers. That was overturned. How well did that turn out?

The City of Chicago should not be in the housing business.
Look at the parts of our city (and suburbs, Skokie is a prime example) that are now war zones because of Section 8, housing vouchers, rent assistance, etc.
Ever notice the people that are able to push this agenda fully are those who live in areas where the only minorities are the people who clean their homes or work in their yard.
Axelrod lives in Lake Point Tower--what a real revolutionary. Same with the police station bomber and his bank robbing wife live in a hoity toity area of Hyde Park. As an 018th district officer that has been here since all the old Cabrini buildings were still standing, I completely understand where you're coming from. The blood soaked grounds of where Cabrini once stood should never be conveniently "relocated" so that it's now considered part of a safe and desirable neighborhood, just as they've done with the Marshall Field Homes. Just think, the people that actually own the hell hole that is Marshall Fields are charging the government the market rate for each apartment in the neighborhood. Just think of the going rate for two and three bedrooms in Old Town, and then multiply it by the 100 plus units in that shithole. The rent money they're taking in each month from the government with all of the two and three bedroom apartments in that building that they're charging Old Town rates is enormous. That dump is a cash cow, and the government is ultimately footing the bill for them to live down the street from you.
Fine citizen comes into desk looking for a report for something he overheard somebody say, that he couldn't verify was directed toward him. You know, office.
Turns out the real reason he needed the report was he couldn't get out of that particular Sect. 8 without it. Needless to say, he was shown the door without one.

Fuckers get everything for free, yet my transportation reimbursement to my kids catholic school gets cut off, (was only 10% of what it should have been according to the worksheet but they cut it totally off), can only contribute half of what we were able to to our FSA,($2500 instead of $5000), my property tax went up 30%, but this asshole doesn't want a drug test. So with your thinking, because I buy products, one could say that I am helping the economy and I should receive a subsidy that basicall gives me the products I'm buying for free? After all, I AM helping the economy. I'm helping to keep employees employed at the stores and line workers working at the plant to produce my goods.
Flawed logic. Corporations should not get paid to make money. They create jobs because they want to make money. If they cannot survive on the money we use shopping or using their product but need billions in subsidies then they should fold.
Paying companies for the benefit of them offering a job to people is straight up welfare.

I'm also against the corporations who take the money and hire low-wage Visa workers instead of hiring people right here in Illinois. So I am against that as well - but we're talking about these welfare leeches - so don't change the subject.
