Is This for Real?

Immediately following the attack on the off-duty copper, this transmission was allegedly heard on the radio:
  • That was embarrassing to listen to on the radio. The lazy do nothing female that gets on the air and says "I see him but I can't get my car down the bike path." Here's an idea, get your lazy A$$ out of the car and go after him!!!
Oh dear lord, please tell us this is a bad dream.

Also heard was that the almost-victim gave quite a accounting of herself and put a rather large hurting on her assailant. Very very well done Officer. Now let's find this predator and stick him where he won't be preying on any less capable persons.

Absolutely this shithead deserves to be neutered tarred and feathered. Just to be devils advocate though, I could be wrong, but before jumping the gun on the finger pointing, how far away did the responding officer see him? on a clear day on a flat path one can see upto a mile or 2, and he was on a bike. Whos that fast on their feet. Flash sent at least?
Anyway, I hope she knocked the shit out of him.

Sounds like the victim was unarmed. WHY?

In Chicago, you should be carrying 24/7 - NO exceptions.

The would-be rapist would be dead and it would have saved everyone a LOT of time. Also, the next rapist would think twice before doing anything.

As for the officer in the car, that was very hard to read.

If true, she should NOT be a police officer. Get another job - NOW.

Sounds like if it was the Good Humor truck down the bike path ringing its bells, she would have gotten down there quick.

Glad to hear victim is OK, but carry next time. Luck runs out and we do not need to read about another tragedy.

Next case.

Sad to say I hear or see this all the time on this job. Even in the busy district. A PO I was working with the other day would rather read her book then help an officer out in a foot chase that was a couple blocks away.
Part of me doesn't blame the city for attempting to use the current officer more effectively, but that didn't happen cause officer feel they are hurting the city when they decided not to do their job. They are really hurting the citizens that need protection from shitheads.
now the city has hired more officers and these PPO's are just as lazy as the officer with time on the job.
Sad to say this job is turning to shit.

I have been up on that trail many times. There are only a few places where a car can enter and exit. If the offender is in sight he has a jump on anyone pursuing, if he is on a bike there is little chance that the fastest running officer will be able to catch up. The officer put out a flash to give responding officers a chance to place themselves in a strategic position near the exit areas to catch the POS as he exits as well as a good descript. including clothing. Do not judge what you have no personal knowledge of.

FOP 101

We all hate the Mell’s, Daley’s, Madigan’s, Lipinski’s, Jackson’s, etc., because they have been so entrenched they believe they are part of a ruling class. The FOP has it’s own ruling class too. The Donahue group feel that this is their union and will go to no end to keep it their’s. The dirty tactics they used to get elected in the first part should prove that beyond any reasonable doubt. For years they complained the retirees were too many in number and tried to purge them out of the union. Steve Robbins - a Donahue lackey - was hand picked by Marky Mark to replace an opening at the pension board. Last year he proposed a by-law change to keep all retirees from voting in elections and therefore they would never hold another office again. Why? Because the older guys who have been involved for years know what kind of bullshit was going on by them. The by-law committee should have ruled that this was out of order as was the advisory from the state and national lodges. The national lodge has a retiree on the national board too. Robbins was still hurting from being beaten for reelection by Shields. Robbins went along to get along with the people at the pension board. When the retirees showed up en-mass to vote this by-law down Robbins had to feel like he was cut off at the knees. His own people turned against him. Let's see what he gets if we a stupid enough to re-elect these jerks again. Moriarty the Sgt. At arms and by-law committee chairman was to first to talk against it. Then the rest of the Markey Mark crew fell in on line. If anyone had any second thoughts that the city-wide team was going to do anything in their power to become the ruling class again that would have removed any second thoughts. These guys were willing to throw 1000’s under the bus to regain power.

There is an old phrase keep your friends close and your enemies closer. The back stabbing that has been going on for the last two years is unbelievable. I did not vote for Shields either. After the election I learned what Bella was doing and even why Marky Mark had to put Capparelli out of the office. All under the noses of Ag-u-liar, DiMaria, and Dougherty. Or was it with a wink and a nod? When will these guys ever retire? Or go back to the field. Never. And god help you if you get in theie way.

While the back stabbing is intense Shields has made mistakes all on his own. More to follow on the city-wide team. Shields and his crew will be covered next semester in fop 110.

This job isn't what it used to be. I remember seeing old dinosaurs with rusty revolvers that would hang down to their ankles, run their old asses off when it was for another po. This incident was disgraceful.

I do a lot of running on city streets and will tell you that I never set foot outside my house without my phone, pistol and police ID.

For those that do run, i carry a subcompact in a "pistol wear" holster (pistolwear.com) and use bone conduction headphones. They conduct sound through your jawbones, thus leaving your ears completely open and able to hear your surroundings. The holster is designed for running and is very comfortable.

A speedy recovery to the off duty.

From the original post...

Off Duty Attacked

"... The officer fought off her attacker, who was described as a male Hispanic riding a bicycle, said police spokesman Adam Collins."

So offender is on a bicycle. How far away? On my best day right out of the Academy I couldn't catch a determined offender on a bicycle with a far enough head start.

Can we get direction of flight? Can we head 'em off? Damn it there are no police to converge on the scene because Rahm won't hire them and McFuckup won't put them in that area and the alderman goes along with that.

Just to be devils advocate though, I could be wrong, but before jumping the gun on the finger pointing, how far away did the responding officer see him? on a clear day on a flat path one can see up to a mile or 2, and he was on a bike. Who's that fast on their feet. Flash sent at least?

No, you're not wrong and the flash was sent. Fixed pylons prevent auto traffic on the path and the bad guy was on a bike blocks away. Save the Monday morning quarterbacking for the Bears' games

off topic: And how the fuck did Barney get all this time due through busy weekend?? Hawks tickets????
Be safe all we have is each other we may not have to clout.

Wow. another example of what is wrong with people on this job. In the early years of this profession, there is no way a fellow officer would throw another officer under the bus for something like this. 1st off, If you had that kind off clout, you would use it to, but more importantly, after coming back to That district after being gone 10 years and working with that command staff, I can say they have been very good about giving people time off, regardless of manpower. You are an wrong for putting this type of business out there and the only thing that can be said is you come across as a whiner...

Bullshit, unless the victim wanted the PO to stay with her. Otherwise head towards offender, try to get the best description possible, and even if dude keeps trucking you may eyeball him so you can direct officers toward him. You also may see him dump something that can be recovered for DNA.

Have to agree with you. They say the po put a little hurt on the offender and that she wasn't seriously injured, so why stay with her, chase the dam offender. Go over a curb, every area is accessible at some point, especially a bike path

I suppose her car should just fly over the cement pylons and cement planters . Idiot

I have a suggestion, try driving around them or find access at another location. Oh yea, no one has ever seen a squad car or a park district truck on a bike path. They are completely inaccessible. Sure hope I never fall off my bike, I will die because the ambulance, fire and police can never get to me

W-side cop, you are correct. Offender was blocks away on a bike . Also, Vehicles can not enter at that location where the call for service came out. Officer stayed with victim / witnesses and opted to instead observe which direction offender turned off into the woods. A big fuck you to the original poster !

Thats the trouble with this job now, too many "opt" to observe instead of taking action. As far as giving directions, another poster noted she gave the wrong direction in which the offender was fleeing until someone corrected it 5 minutes later
I suppose if you go to a call and no one answers the front door you "opt" to wait there and direct someone to check the rear door

Lastly, do you think Niles P.D. is making its judgement now of Chicago P.D. Whether they care for us or not

You are 100% wrong. What happened was documented in the papers. His name was in the papers, on the tv and the radio. Court records are public. This wasn't a rumor about "old Joe Schmo from some outside unit". Lastly, Dailey is a bad drunk. He gets loaded, gets stupid, and starts trouble....sometimes even with the people he's
with. Ask the retired 1st watch w/c's from 019 and 023 about his track record on Clark St. This Niles incident was not his first transgression. He tarnishes each and every one of us. He deserves what he's gonna get.
