We hear it constantly. But the media keeps throwing up sites that count and track homicides. Now the Tribune has put together a bunch of sites rolled into one called "Chicago: Under the Gun." Homicide maps, shooting maps, crime by neighborhood, an extensive collection of crime scene photos and videos.
But remember, crime is down. And evidently, good for business as far as the media is concerned.

Anyone know why the Sups' Monday morning meeting & Compstat were cancelled this week, without any kind of explanation? We usually hear something...Tracy was out of town, someone is sick, etc. But nothing but crickets this time around. In addition, Dean " The Dream' Andrews was a "no show" at an important strategy meeting in 019 on Wednesday.
Anyone working in 005 tonight would be able to tell you that place is a war zone. I think the tally as of midnight was 7 shot and 2 homocides. That place is nuts.

As a beat officer it's obvious that putting more officers in beat cars is the way to go. Many if not all these districts have way too many people on mission teams. Seriously! Take for example 012 district. We have auto mission teams, burglary teams, robbery teams. All said and done it's the beat car that comes in with more activity than all those teams put together. This is where every district loses manpower. As far as foot patrol this is the same problem. 012 district has over 10 foot patrol positions. Seriously. This is another mismanagement of man power. The desk has 4 people on 3rd watch. That's an extra body we can use on the street. There's suppose to be only 3 people assigned to the desk anyway. This post is intended to see how many districts are mismanaging the manpower on each watch. Districts have tact teams. This is why they are put there.
The Supt was golfing and boozing with celebrities in Evanston all day Monday.I hope he burned a day and this was not on the tax payers dime.

Crime is NOT down. We are giving less police reports and the dept continues to classify crimes in deceptive manner. From what ive seen and heard about our current ppo's we are screwed. Some want to act like the police and be treated as such yet they refuse to actually be the police. We are screwed.

The sad part is some of those kids would not have caught a bullet if the C.P.D. was back at previous full strengh before Rahm made cuts to the budget and eliminated about 10 percent of the police force with the stroke of a pen.
Now he can say that the dept is at or near full strengh.
Why not budget for 5000 Police Officers so he can say he is at more than double full strengh.

With a more than 10% reduction in manpower, how many exempt members of the dept have been reduced? Over 10% less exempts? I would not be suprised if there are More exempt members to command a much smaller dept.

In a chain of command system, the commander makes a change/order and Lt and sgt's handle it. Do you think the commander should call you at home to tell you your off the team, NO THATS NOT HOW IT WORKS. Now as for as activity some of you should be dumped, you guys lead the city in drinkers and pisser arrests. Oh and that one time when you guys photocopied an ID and put it in a cold 6 pack of beer, waiting for some bum to pick it up and get your theft pinch...uncool! Stop crying, bid out or go work midnights...but all of you guys/girls are to cool for that.

To the bitter poster about 019 tact. Remember kid EVERYBODY will be dumped at some point on this job, it's just the way it's done that makes it different. As far as the commander goes, I think he has the best interest of his officers at heart but I also think he is not the kind of a leader for a district. Yes it is true that the Greek last named officers fet taken care of, but nits happens everywhere, not saying it's fair but not unique to 019. The commander has been dumped before when he was commander of TRU but rose again, however I think they should have given him the 020 district, not a place like 019/023. Yes, the Greek Sgt. on days did make a shit load of overtime, but he is putting in all kinds of hours and various start times, he is trying to get merit Lt. after all, good luck but it's blood money in my opinion. The tact Lt. is a good man, a true believer, yes he loves to voice his opinion, but he can back it up with many police involved shootings, many doa's. As far as the XO he should not be in charge of a district let alone a watch since he has no management skills , hell he can't even manage his family. The problem in 019 is that the officers who do the least yet kiss ass and have a sponsor get taken care of the most while the officers that do the most get taken care of the least, and it's this blatant in your face way that the bosses do this reward system that promote negative feelings here. This place could be and should be the best place in the city but for the above reasons and many more it just is not so.

I agree with a lot of what you say. 019 could be great, but today it's the worst run place in it's history. It's very obvious about the "greek clout clan" the entire district jokes about it. Hopefully Mccarthy will look at the greek merit names on his desk and see the BS that it is and toss them into the garbage where they belong.
