400 Missing iPads

Crime is down!
  • Maybe Rahm can use some of the money generated by the cameras to replace the almost 400 ipads that were stolen from the grammer school in the Dearborn Homes on Thursday nite. Yes folks, seems this school had the new still in the box ipads securely stored IN THE AUDITORIUM! And guess who stole the ipads . . . of course the shitheads that live in Dearborns. Ipads were being sold like packs of squares in the Dearborns for a hundred bucks a pop. Now you gotta ask yourself, how many CPS schools in taxpaying neighborhoods got new ipads for their kids? What CPS administrator thought it would be a good idea to leave all the new ipads setting in the auditorium overnight? And finally, how is it that the shitheads that stole the ipads knew right where to find them. Hmmmm.
We couldn't find any mention of this in the media as of yet.

Yeah it was a brilliant idea anyway wasn't it?

Hand out 400 brand spanking new Ipads for "the children" to wave in the air as they are strolling thru the safe passage. WHAT COULD POSSIBLY GO WRONG?

The insurgents only jack up people on the CTA, Wrigglyville, and downtown for their apple gear.,,,right?

So they hit the mother load. Who's next I wonder?

Nothing new here. Thugs have been stealing these by the boatload in 011, 015 & 10. The idiots at the CPS just keep them locked in a rolling case. One good whack by a hammer and they're all yours!

They don't even want to hand out textbooks anymore at CPS schools because they get lost, stolen, destroyed, etc. Did they really expect these students to take care of an Ipad? Not surprised they were stolen, however, They should have been locked away.

They need to provide the serial numbers to Apple and Apple can track them down if the thieves or buyers ever sign in to itunes.

And how come I cant afford to get new electronics but my tax dollars go to buy ipads for future criminals? Let their parents buy the ipads or better yet, give the kids a textbook to read. Just kidding, i know they cant read.

What public school is giving out IPads? My kids school which is driven by the highest tax base doesn't have that, air, security....and they raised our school fees $25.00 per child. Seems to me they put no effort into the kids whose schools score the highest. Instead they sink the money into kids who show up on a part time basis.

The latest scandal coming out of CPS is high school PE teachers not having all thier proper credentials, including their 1st Aid/CPS/AED and Water Safety Instructor (WSI) certificates. Both are 'supposed to be' mandatory at the time of their hirngs, yet, many PE teachers are bullshitting their principals or the principals aren't checkng their qualifications.

Q. Why are these two certificates important?

A. The 1st Aid/CPR/AED certificate is state mandated and a life could depend on a PE teacher knowing what to do in an emergency. And, the WSI allows PE teachers to lead any aquatic activity, especially life-saving and swimming skills.

Q. Who's complaining the most about current CPS PE teachers not having all their proper credentials?

A. Recently displaced, laid off, and fired CPS teachers who have all have their proper credentials. In fact, the CTU has received over 50 grievances about the matter from these former PE teachers, mostly working as substitute teachers now.

Q. So, what's happening about it?

A. CPS PE teachers without either certification are now scrambling to get them ASAP, including taking a rigged WSI certifcation class through a guy named Walker Thomas, an American Red Cross Aquatics Instructor. Thomas charges $150-$250 for the class which is 3-hours long for CPS employees needing the certification, uses a CPS pool for free, and (Poof!) after the class, they're certified. Thomas' class bypasses lengthy college coursework suburban PE teachers must take to attain the certification.

I hope Pam Zekman, Chuck Goudie, Larry Yellen, Mark Suppelsa, Dave Savini, etc. read this...

Thugs all have little kids in school in some fashion. They hype it up with the kids and parents that iPads are comming. Only takes one kid or parent or janitor to know where they are and then eveyone in the hood knows!
Funny that when they do the presents program for CPS they say don't include the reciept or the parents will return the items for cash or take the tags off coat donations or the parents will return them for cash. So of course give the kids iPads.

Do you really expect the detective division to go out and recover Ipads when they are tracked or laptops that have hidden trackers? I don't. When I retired I worked for a corporation that had hidden computer trackers on all laptops. The tracking company called me and told me they know exactly where the machines are being used as they have the IP address. The detectives would have to get a subpoena for the IP address and then a search warrant for the house where the machine was located. They refused to do any of this and told the company to take better care of their property. Do not expect any action out of property crimes detectives if it entails leaving the office.

At the charter school I taught at last year, there was an unlocked rolling cart of laptops the teachers shared. If I wanted to use it, I had to ask the other teachers who had it or track it down through one of the bldg maintenance guys; the office didn't keep track of it. I brought in my own lock while it was in my room.

City has to buy them directly from apple, which is sold at a discounted cost because its for students and apple has all the serial numbers. Apple is very selective on who it allows authorized resellers. Not everything is a minorities fault.

In Drivers Education, CPS is paying the vehicle insurance for students who get their D/L and get at least a "D" in every class. All CPS schools in South and West side only.

Also, interest free loan for a vehicle through FORD and backed by the CPS if the child defaults on the loan.10 K limit and no sales Taxes, because CPS is backing the loan. Being employed part time is not even an issue. Plates and sticker will be included.

Start seeing a lot of Fords around. Now the kids can ride downtown to flash mob for the holidays. Rahm suppports this and JJ sr helped get it started.

Here's more information regarding the WSI certificate and how CPS employees received their certifications in an unethical manner in the past:

Several CPS coaches and teachers needing the WSI certificate have in the past took a 'bogus' certification class with an American Red Cross (ARC) Instructor named Walker Thomas (wthomas@elginymca.org). Thomas, along with CPS Swim Coordinator Kevin McCray, arranged for the 'free use' of a CPS pool to be made available for the 3-hr. 'bogus' certification course on Saturdays throughout the years; anywhere from 15-30 individuals would take this ARC certification course on any given time. WSI certificate seeking individuals would pay Thomas and McCray $150-$250 for the course ($50 going for a "Learn to Swim' certification book) in cash or by check (with the checks being written out to Walker Thomas).

I call the class 'bogus' because Thomas instructed individuals to write in the name of a pre-requisite course,
which individuals supposedly took with him, on the forms to be filled out for an individual to receive their WSI certification card. However, most WSI certificate seekers never took the course and the completion of the course wasn't being checked by the ARC or CPS. Below is a class description and links to WSI courses offered by Chicago State University and Triton College to help individuals gain their WSI certification:

Chicago State:
5820/382 WATER SAFETY INSTRUCTOR CERTIFICATION (2)
Prerequisite: Demonstrate quality strokes, 50 yards front and back crawl, breast, side, elementary back and 10 yard butterfly; community lifesaving certification; instructor candidate training certification.

Successful completion of the course will qualify the student to teach and certify in: the Learn to Swim Program (I-VII); and, Infant and Preschool Aquatic Program (PAP).

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Triton College

PED 189◊ Water Safety Instructor (2 credits)

Certifies instructor candidates to teach American Red Cross Swimming and water safety courses. It includes Fundamentals of Instructor Training (FIT)

Prerequisite: Competency in general stroke skills and rescue

Lecture: 1 hour

Laboratory: 2 hours

CPS says they dosn't care, the prospective PE teacher must have a WSI to teach HS PE, even if the school has no pool or if a pool has been filled with books, files, and school supplies for years.

Though, it's guesstimated that between 250-300 (maybe more) CPS high school PE teachers don't have their current WSI as one veteran PE teacher's wife works for ARC and she confirmed only 100-150 CPS high school PE teachers are currently up-to-date in their system.

Here's the kicker here...CPS and the ARC don't have the staffing to check for WSIs or if the PE teachers actually went through the needed requirements, like leading a class. Some schools where CPS teachers re-certified themselves (it's based on the HONOR SYSTEM) for the WSI don't have a pool or their pool is out of order for years and PE teachers claim they led classes in these schools.

Another problem is several CPS high school PE teachers don't have their 1stAid/CPR/AED certifications either.

But, who'll CPS send out to check certifications? CPS Investigations? Nope, they're too busy, with a staff of SEVEN people, busting students who live outside Chicago and attend CPS schools then to even check on teachers and staffers living outside Chicago.

Will the CPS Talent Office or HR Dept. check? Nope, they're too busy staffing vacant positions in many schools.
