Bill Daley Drops Out

  • Bill Daley abruptly ended his bid for the Democratic nomination for governor today, telling the Tribune that a lifetime in politics had not prepared him for the “enormity” of his first run for office and the challenge of leading the state through difficult times.

Daley, a member of two White House administrations, a presidential campaign manager and the son and brother of two former Chicago mayors, dropped out of the race less than four months after declaring his political resume gave him the best credentials to replace Democratic Gov. Pat Quinn.
And all that brain power showed him exactly how fucked up his brother and the Illinois Combine had shafted Illinois. There's no way Illinois emerges from all of this with anything like an intact economy or lord knows how many layers of federal oversight. Quinn is merely fighting a rearguard action until such time as too many people get fed up, vote a downstate republican in, who then actually submits a budget based in the real world, not fantasy land, and gets destroyed by the left for daring to have Illinois live within its means.

Then everyone closes up shop, leaves Illinois to the democrats, vultures and cockroaches, probably within the next 50 years.

Politics is an art form in Illinois, not unlike a chess grandmaster planning his attack well in advance of seeing the moves. To get better insight start at the end goal and work towards the present events: (If that's too confusing, read from the bottom up.)
-----------------------------------
8) ...Hillary gets elected POTUS.

7) Rahm gets his best friend elected governor of Illinois and....checkmate(8)

6) Democrats keep control of Illinois Electoral votes and combine keeps control of Ilinois.

5) Rauner does not support any tangible Republican for President (if there is one).

4)Rauner easily defeats Quinn because of crossover support from Chicago machine.(Daley & Rahmbo)

3) Rauner wins republican primary with Chicago Dems crossover vote supporting Rauner.

2) Kirk's Senate seat promised to Bill Daley in return for CityDem support of Rauner against Rutherford.

1) Bill Daley announces and then withdraws from governor's race.

Here's my opinion. Daley drops out to leave Quinn as the only democrat. Right now he's the most despised governor in Illinois history. This gives a chance for a republican to get in. But that guy will be the rino Bruce Rauner, a close associate of Daley, Rahm and Obama, a businessman who has befriended and supported democrats his whole life. The dems stay in power, and when nothing changes the whole state continues to deride the republican party for doing nothing. Four years later Mike retires and daughter Lisa takes the helm and Illinois ceases to exist.

A little freedom returning to Illinois...

"FOX 32 News has learned that about 20 jailed defendants awaiting trial for illegal gun possession could go free as soon as Tuesday.

One defendant with an otherwise completely clean record has been locked up for 14 months, waiting for his trial.

Edward Hambrick has already spent more time behind bars at the Cook County Jail than some who've been convicted of violent crimes. His case began 26 months ago, when he said he left Pierre, South Dakota, where he'd been working as a computer programmer, to return to his native Englewood for a 20th high school class reunion.

Hambrick said he showed the police his Illinois Firearm Owner's ID card, as well as a concealed carry permit valid in South Dakota. Precisely because he'd grown up on the bloody streets of Englewood, he said, he felt he needed a gun to protect himself.

Chicago police said they stopped Hambrick on 79th Street because he wasn't using his truck's seat belt."

Being governor isn't that much fun when you have deficits projected .... forever. The old stand-by strategy "making sure everybody gets taken care of " won't work when the pie isn't big enough and no one gets taken care of. The state has been running structural deficits for well over a decade. After five years of "green shoots" and "recovery summers", unemployment is still in the dumps.

The governor and the legislature have only two kinds of decisions: bad and worse that primarily effect Democratic supporters like SEIU, AFSCME, IFT, CTU, etc. The only unions that have a chance in the public's view are police and fire.

Chicago, Cook Co. and CPS budget deficits are $1.5 Billion (combined) with another $800 million per year due when the pension holiday expires. You all know that those guys will be looking for help (cash) from Springfield to cover the shortfall.

The subsidy from the Feds will stop in three years after a huge increase in Medicaid rolls as a result of Obamacare. Pick a number on how much that shortfall will be.

Two years ago the unfunded retiree liabilities for the state were reported to be ~$82 billion, now, they are $100 billion. (A Northwestern business professor says the number is closer to $200 billion.) This is while real estate is almost back and the Dow and S&P 500 are up well over 30% since 2011.

If I am Daley, I realize that I need to raise taxes to 8% or even higher to pay the pension obligations and have any chance to pay down the $7 billion bill backlog.

I would rather play golf and make $50,000 for introducing someone at lunch.

When taxes go up and services go down, a lot of people are going to leave this state.

Hey, where are those 439,000 new jobs that we got from the Illinois Jobs NOW! capital plan that is going to expire?

Bill is already stating he won't endorse Quinn.

Emanuel, the Pritzkers, the Civic Federation crowd, etc....are all behind Bruce Rauner who wants to destroy the working people in this state.

Best is get one study partner as committed as you are. Hit the orders together and write questions for each other. Come up with at least a dozen questions three days a week, at least. Quiz each other. Read out loud to each other. Be religious about this. When you finish all the orders and law, start over.

If one person is significantly more committed then drop the other one and fine someone who really wants it. Hard work and repetition. Three times a week, three hours each. Over and over. Give yourself the best chance that way.

Then, whatever happens, you have no one to blame, you did your best.

Not counting the already fined 400.+ million?

If he does run again for mayor, (or Bill Daley in his place) there will be plenty of competition, two or three black candidates, two or three Hispanic candidates, if need be two three of any kind needed to divide and conquer.

Then either one of the will drag out at the last moment a TV ad featuring the Messiah saying how great he was a Chief of Staff and wishes his the best in his new gig. The catered to constituency will always fall for that crap hoping to get more free shit.

Either way, the working middle class is squeezed and screwed.

Um, seat belt, right.

The city and state will be paying out millions for violations of individuals Constitutional rights. The right to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.

There is a book coming out saying Daley was a disaster as chief of staff at the white house. That will not play well in any political race. And, I am sure there was a lot of pressure not to have a dog fight in a democratic primary. If people want change, vote Quinn and Madigan out of state office for starters.

I was at the union meeting today and Shields talked in general about the legislature coming after our pensions and retiree cola. That was it. This is the most important thing after the contract and the letter he failed to send and nothing more. Shields got beat today over the letter which was great but fellas we are in big trouble. If you we're not at the meeting today you have no idea how incompetent this guy is. We are in big trouble.

We pay Mark Donahue $75,000 a year. His title is Legislative Co-ordination. We had absolutely no update from him about our pensions. The veto session starts next month and he has no clue about what is coming at us. Frankly we can't blame Shields for this one, unless you blame him for hiring Donahue.

They are disgusted with state and local governments.

Sergeant's Test Prep Companies

A lot of my coworkers feel pissed with cpdtestprep.com and Bernstein. They paid big bucks and all they do in classes is fucking read the materials off on a big screen. A three year old can do that.

If you want to succeed, then hit the fucking books. Learn how to learn and then employ those techniques. I've been a successful student since my third year in high school when I got sick of academic failure. Learn how to learn/study and then use those techniques. You'll study smarter and not harder. The above two test prep companies are just a wasted of money and time. Save both! None will give you a short cut or a magic elixir. Good luck on the exam.

9/17/2013 06:41:00 AM

Best is get one study partner as committed as you are. Hit the orders together and write questions for each other. Come up with at least a dozen questions three days a week, at least. Quiz each other. Read out loud to each other. Be religious about this. When you finish all the orders and law, start over.

If one person is significantly more committed then drop the other one and fine someone who really wants it. Hard work and repetition. Three times a week, three hours each. Over and over. Give yourself the best chance that way.

Then, whatever happens, you have no one to blame, you did your best.

Are you kidding? REALLY?

Be smart and start realizing that this state is BROKE.

BROKE as in filing bankruptcy and that means kiss your pension good-bye!!! WAKE UP. All of you so worried about your pensions better think twice before voting for Quinn again.

Your pension is secured by the state Constitution???

Not if the state declares bankruptcy. Then, it's stand in line with ALL the other creditors with your hat in hand and see if you can get $.40 on the dollar - instead of $.25 on the dollar.

AND - based on the super-talented brain trust of negotiators you have in FOP (both past and present), chances are, getting $.25 on the dollar would be a miracle.

Time to get someone that knows how to run something as Governor - and not drive it into the ground.

You better look at candidates based on who has a better business mind to salvage the mess that is in place- and that sure isn't Quinn.

Stalin didn't threaten anybody. They just disappeared. He killed many millions, mostly his own people. You didn't have to say anything against him. Stalin just had to think that someday you might be a problem.

He very likely killed many more than Hitler. What do you know about Stalin? What have you read about Stalin?

It's a set up.

Quinn is being set up to lose this one. Rahm and the Daleys want to play bigger roles in 2016.

The last thing they need is for Rahm and a governor Bill Daley unable or unwilling to solve Illinois' many problems. Worse yet, without a republican in sight to make a scapegoat or to point the finger at for the democrat's usual blame game, the attention placed on the party making the case for another 4 years in the white house won't sit well on the squabbling for power with Madigan on the part of two former chiefs of staff for the two previous dem administrations.
The republicans, especially Rauner, should expect to pull off a victory. But not because voters finally got wise. More so because they're expected to be holding the big exploding bag of shit that they'll be made to look like they're responsible for by the democrat's information ministry, a.k.a the media.
